22kw 5m Type 2 to Type 2 EV Charging Cable - $224.10 Delivered (Save 10%) @ EVSE

100
Tesla3Aus

Repost from previous deal with new code!

If you missed out previously on Australia day.

"Very cheap price for 22kw 5m EV charging cable for use with public charging stations or residential units that don't come with a cable.

IMHO a must have for every EV owner to keep in their car should they need to use an AC public charging station, as more and more require you to BYO cable (mostly because people are animals and treat the included cord like crap so it breaks and costs the operator of the charger a fortune to keep replacing)."

treat the included cord like crap so it breaks and costs the operator of the charger a fortune to keep replacing

So these EV hipsters care about the environment but apparently not so much about other people's stuff.

    • Yea the gas guzzling oil tycoon ICE hoons personality is rubbing off

No, it's usually luddite vandals who can't stand the thought of change.

    • It would be coal-sucking morons who vandalise these.

    • Jealous ICE car owner vandals.

      • So jealous driving along the beach in my ICE 4WD👍

I missed out 🙃, doesn't take much for some folks to bite 😜

OK if your car uses a type 2 connector - which it probably does.
But no good for Tesla charging stations, unless that is going to change.

    • +1

huh? Model 3 has type 2 in aus

      • Tesla stations don't have provision for BYO cable

        • -1

Nor do any other DC fast charging networks. All have attached cables regardless of brand.

      • -1

I'll explain further - Australia's market has now standardised on type 2. (including Tesla finally) Some older vehicles use other types of connectors. So look out for these if you expect to use a type 2 connector.
Tesla stations won't allow charging of other brands. Electronically locked out.
Unless that is going to change.

Did they change their mind ?

          https://www.reuters.com/business/autos-transportation/tesla-…

Tesla Inc (TSLA.O) plans to open its network of superchargers to other electric vehicles later this year, Chief Executive Officer Elon Musk said on Twitter.

          • @ruprectaus: This was going to happen in late 2021 according to the Reuters article.
I haven't seen any other brands of EV at a Tesla "super" charging station so far in the ACT or NSW. Rest of Australia I don't know about but is probably the same.
Probably since it is now being "piloted" so far at
            The Netherlands
            France
            Norway

Mind you, by my observations, Tesla is by far the market leader in numbers on the road in Australia - so it doesn't really matter about everyone else. Hyundai etc.

You are confused. The cable in this deal is not suitable for use with any DC fast chargers for any car, whether that be Tesla Superchargers, Evie, Charge Fox, NRMA etc, and whether you have a Tesla, Hyundai, Kia, Polestar etc.

This cable is for slower AC chargers that do not have an attached cable, and those AC chargers can be used with this cable by any vehicle with a Type 2 connector, such as the aforementioned Tesla's, Hyundai, Kia, Polestar etc.

  • +1

    Does it support PD?

  • +3

Just a note: I went with the Tesla-supplied cable @ $310 (after comparing it to others). It's made in Germany and it's 7.5M https://shop.tesla.com/en_au/product/mennekes-type-2-adapter…

    • this is good value for money relatively speaking! i think 7.5m will come in handy as some chargers are spaced weirdly. and sometimes if the bay is iced, you'll have plenty to reach to the next bay and charge.

  • +1

Looks like all their legths are 10% off. EVSE- 7m for $301.5O, Telsa- 7.5 for $310. Looks like Tesla is the winner for me in this case with the extra .5m, unless you require only 5m

  • Model 3 does not support 22kW charge rate.
Save $ and your elbow grease and buy the lighter and cheaper 11kW version.
Also 7m is a waste, been using 4m and never felt I need a longer cable

    • Hmm, the 11kW version on EVSE is pricier than the 22kW unless it's cheaper elsewhere. Did you have a link for a 11kW version at a better price?

    • +2

      Not really.
With 11kW cable you get 11kW if charger is 3-phase (16A), and 3.6kW if charger is 1-phase.
      With 22kW cable you get 11kW for 3-phase, but 7.2kW for 1-phase.
There are pretty decent number of 1-phase chargers around, so it makes sense to buy 22kW cable, it's worth additional what, 30 bucks?

      • You are right the differences 32 amp single phase or 16 amp single phase support. However I’ve been driving for two years I’ve never seen a single phase charger in Melbourne.

        • There are a lot of 32A single phase chargers in NSW.
