My 8350u got the update officially through windows update?

    • +3

Gen 8 Processors are win 11 compatible , Core i5-8350U is in the official list as well ,

      • +2

Woops my bad. Even better deal then.

    • +2

Win 11 supports Intel 8th Gen and above.

    • If you have such strong opinions against this laptop, how come you didn't tap on the link first before providing this false information? "Win 11 compatible" is clearly written on the listing for every one of these laptops.

      • +6

I don't have strong opinion against this laptop at all, you'll see I put a positive vote on it too. Simple brainfart, thought that the cutoff for Win11 support was 9th gen instead of 8th.

For the money it's a great deal, with or without Win11. I did look at the page to check the specs hence the comments on DDR4 and TB3 - just managed to skip over the glaringly obvious Win11 logo while I did it.

        • Hmm fair enough. It is a great deal, I remember when the 8th gen Intel was released. It was truly a big deal. Considering these mobile chipsets didn't have a 9th gen, I suspect that's why the 8th gen are still popular.

You did somehow skip over the "glaringly obvious" Windows 11 compatible spec but that was a genuine mistake which you accepted :)

  • What are the conditions of these refurbish?

  • This or the Lenovo X1 Yoga G4 deal?

    • +2

These do have better spec, but the Yoga seems to be a more premium model, and from what I heard, conditions are pretty good. But you have to pay full price for the Yoga now since the promo finished.

      • ah ha! I thought it goes till Friday. Didn't realised that it's while stocks last

      • +2

The 7000 series Latitudes are one of the more premium models too, although the Yogas do look a little slicker.

If you really want premium get the XPS 13 that's also listed in the deal

  • +1

So the two 7490s are identical except for the i7 vs i5? Is the i7 worth the extra $100…?

  • -5

Only a 30 day warranty. I'd be interested, but other refurb sellers offer a lot more.

    • +2

this deal Includes 6 months Return to base warranty. its mentioned on the deal as well

      • base is on Mars … ?

if you want it fixed, you have to 'get your ass to Mars ' ?

        • Yes, If the base identifies as male, else Venus.

Typing this one out on this exact model right now (work issued). It's been surprisingly robust, but I've had the chassis refurbished due to the battery overheating and expanding once. Also, can't stand the screen (low brightness and grainy) but I use it mostly connected to an external monitor.

Mostly OK, hasn't missed a beat. Battery life is decent, screen is woeful.

    • Surprised to hear that an XPS would have a crappy screen. And what's the point of getting a 2-in-1 device in a premium chassis if it's mostly used docked? Might as well get a more powerful Lattitude for less money.

    • Hmm. The reviews I've seen say the screen is very good, but you would know since you own one.

    • +1

I assume you're talking about the Latitudes and not the XPS (as some seem to think)? The Latitudes are solid enough, the screens aren't amazing but they are perfectly usable. We've had a few around that vintage have battery swelling issues, but to be fair most in our fleet spent the majority of their lives plugged into docks. I moved from a 7280 to a 7410 a couple of years ago. We also have a stack of 54xx series.

The XPS screen is very nice.

    • I was assuming he was talking about the Latitude.

The xps seems to have a slower cpu.

      • Yep it was the Latitude. Didn't see there was more than one laptop there!

  • +5

    Tempted but having a question:
Battery tested and working for 6 to 8 Hrs after full charge.

6-8 Hours idle with low screen?
    6-8 Hours 70% screen & browsing ?
6-8 Hours 100% screen & gaming something basic like League of Legends/CS-GO?
    6-8 Hours 100% screen & Streaming Netflix/Amazon Prime

  • Would this refurbished stock have new batteries? I'm thinking of getting one as a present for a family member.

  • +1

Refurbished doesn’t have any clear definition , it can mean anything depending on the seller. But unless something states “new battery” then you can almost guarantee it’s the existing (old) battery.

This does look like a decent deal, but regards the battery life or anything else, always go by what the actual sales page says (in this case the eBay page) not by what an unknown rep says on ozbargain.
I’ve learnt this the hard way. (Different seller, not these guys).
To be safe, get the battery life confirmed from the seller via eBay.

    • If it's the original battery, it could run for as little as a couple of hours, instead of 8.

@OP - can you please comment?

  • Any good place to find replacement batteries?

And why can't i find them on the dell website? https://www.dell.com/en-au/work/shop/pfydresults/6152247?cat…

    • +1

Dell rarely sell replacement batteries online easily; you can either try ringing them and asking if they will send one out, or you'll have to go to eBay/aftermarket unfortunately.

  • What year would these have come out?

    • 2018 I believe.

  • Tempted to get two for my kids online home schooling… Which though Latitude or the xps?

Xps is premium built but needs dongles and has slowed CPU while latitude has HDMI and USB A built in… Battery on 4 year old laptops is a concern also, would be lucky to get a new battery on these.

Would I be better going with a 'brand new' Acer or something for around 650 mark instead?

  • The Acer Aspire deal seems to have the worst screen out of the three.

If I had to pick, I'd go with the Latitude over the xps for the bigger screen and ram… But yeah the battery.
