These are back on sale and much cheaper than last time it was posted. If you have any older M.2 SATA SSDs lying around this is a perfect enclosure for making them a Portable SSD.

As per the previous deal these only support 2230/2242/2260/2280 sized M.2 B-Key SSDs and not the new M.2 NVMe SSDs. Both enclosures have an aluminium case for better heat dissipation with UASP and TRIM support.

  • Thanks OP, Bought one

  • Thanks Clear, got one. Final price including tax came to $7.80 AUD using $7.06 AUD coupon

  • thank you Clear. bought one, have been waiting for some time

  • Can anyone provide a link please on how to construct one of these portable SSD for personal use based on using a similar product linked in this post? TIA.

Sounds interesting and cheap to make.

Obviously quite oblivious to this sort of tech DIY.

    • +1

It's just a matter of putting a compatible SSD hard drive into the enclosure. Not really much to it assuming this is what you are asking.

      • Thanks Borg. Yeah essentially that's what I'm asking.

Very noob request but could you link me an example of a "bare" SSD hard drive to give me an idea of what component to use?

        • +1

Sorry, I know it is not answering your exact question but if starting from scratch, I would not buy one of these as they only support older M.2 B-Key SSDs and not the new M.2 NVMe SSDs. This is more for people who have older B-Key SSD's hanging around. Do you have any SSD's around that require a case?

Starting from scratch, one would first decide on a SSD Drive and then buy a case to match it. Unfortunately, there are several types of SSD connectors so I can't link to anything specific as it is important to match the case to the HDD.

The other option if External SSD is required is to just buy one pre-made. Their enclosures are often better than these.
          Example: Samsung Portable:

Not sure this helps you. Hopefully others will chime in here with their thoughts.

          • @Borg: Thanks again mate.

No all good. I don't have any know-how when it comes to this sort of thing….so I'll be best to just buy a suitable one. I just wanted to see if this was easy and much cheaper. I'll pass on doing this myself for now.

Been telling myself to get a SSD portable one for ages now (1TB) as I've had too many issues and failings with "normal" portable external hard drives. Too many corrupt files and issues. SSD seems to much more stable.

            I appreciate the replies.

            • @PleasureMachine: Being external and using USB or USB-C, are never going to be as reliable as internal drives (SSD or not).
The pre-made external SSD's e.g. Samsung enclosures are generally much better quality compared to any of these cheapie enclosures as they are designed for purpose with quality chipset. I don't think one saves a lot by starting from scratch. External enclosures are great for those (like myself) that have spare SSD's hanging around. May as well repurpose them as external drives. Good luck with whatever avenue you choose :-).
