Great deal. Virgin Money Flyer card with 100k plus 40k bonus. Annual Fee offset by Virgin credit.

    • Annual fee is also halved for 1st year so more than offset by credit even.

Looking at the exclusions, it states:

Offer is not available to existing Virgin Money Credit Card holders (including upgrades).

I was worried that it would be a Citibank card and I already have a Suncorp one but I’ve never had a Virgin Money card so I guess I should be OK to apply?

      • +1

It is a Citibank aligned card.

        • oh dear. Citigroup own plenty of credit cards, making it harder to churn.

    • Do you or anyone else a "go to offer" red button for either of the virgin money flyer/high flyer cards? The others do, but not these two for me

      • +2

        Disable ad blocker.

    • +1

Just for clarification, it's up to 100k points in the first 4 months.
Min spend $1500 in each month for first 4 months (25k points per month if min spend is met).

      • +1

Yeah I missed out on one months by $50. Was pretty devastated.

        • How did you find out? Do they use normal statement cycles to determine your monthly spend? Is it tracked anywhere?

          • +1

@bozbargain: Think the statement cycle occurs on the 16-17th from memory. They crappy thing is there's no tally to tell you if the spend counts towards the bonus points or not.

            • @nightelves: Thanks. How did you find out that you were $50 short? Manual reconciliation? I applied late April, haven't received my first statement yet. Assuming it will come within the next week or so (and I have met the $1,500 spend threshold for the first month), when do you think I should get my first lot of 25k points (based on your experiences)?

              • +1

@bozbargain: Points - on 2 separate accounts - have landed the same day as the statement. They also send an email confirming that about a week later.

      • no 40k bonus isnt it

    • Are you sure, we will be getting 40k bonus Velocity points as part of this?

I cant see any reference to 40k bonus points in the card offer listing - it talks about 25000 points each month, upto 4 months, if we spend min of $1500 every month

  • I’m interested in this for the 6 month upgrade to Gold but my plans are to do a lot of travel in December and January. I wonder if the 6 month can be delayed to start at a later date so can get use out of it?

    • +1

From T&Cs, it seems you can make it last til Jan if you apply at the last moment, as it will take some time to apply and become eligible:

"To be eligible to receive …. Trial Gold Status …you must make your selection… between .. 26 April 2022 and … 31 May 2022 .. and receive a confirmation email to the nominated email address … after receipt of the confirmation email, successfully apply for any card …. that has an annual card fee … and (d) meet the minimum spend criteria … The selected Exclusive Benefit will be allocated to your Velocity account within 30 days of receiving the .. offer"

Another way to get it is by gaining 80 status credits during your first 6 months

"If you earn 80 Status Credits and fly at least two Eligible Sectors during your 6 month Trial Gold Status, you can maintain full Gold Status for 12 months. We’ll assess your eligibility for full Gold Status at the end of your 6 month Trial Gold Status, and if you’re eligible, we’ll notify you and you’ll receive 12 months of full Gold status. "

      • So in summary, we must:

        1. Select benefit (Trial gold, 40k points or $300 travel credit).

        2. Wait for confirmation email from Velocity.

        3. Apply for the card of choice using the offer page.

        4. Meet minimum spend criteria.

    • if you think about timing, it sounds like the Gold offer will only start once spending criteria is met, so you can delay meeting that criteria until the last month, and then the trial should start… the Velocity will take 4 months to meet the criteria as its per month spend, so your 6-month Gold trial is starting in say Sep/Oct - correct me if I have any of that wrong

    • I'm in exactly the same situation - I need the Gold status to cover Dec/Jan. What have you decided to do?

      • Planning to apply this weekend which should give me 3 months from around the 21st May to meet the spend ( will meet it around mid August) 6 months should kick in after that so mid August- mid Feb.
Hoping it works out that way!

  • +3

Will they bankrupt in few years again?

  • I can’t seem to apply from that page for the Virgin Flyer card? Find Out More doesn’t have an apply option or a ‘go to offer’ button?

    • +2

Do you have ad blocker installed?

      • Yes, that seems to be the issue! Thanks for that!

        • ah too late to see this. I applied directly via virgin money site for the card (after activating the 40K offer). I hope 40K still goes through without having to chase it up.

  • The Gold status, is that recognised by any other airlines?

    • Yeah will get you lounge access and all that jazz

      • Is the benefits only for card holder? What about family members?

        • +1

You can bring in one adult guest a as Gold. Unsure about kids as I hate children in the lounge.
In terms of priority access perks it’s generally anyone in your booking

    • Singapore Airline is one of their partner

    • +1

There is a list here. Main ones are United, Etihad and Singapore. https://experience.velocityfrequentflyer.com/flying-status/a…

    • An extra 15kg of luggage with Singapore Air

  • Spending requirements on the Virgin Money cards are quite high

    • As are the exclusions.

      • +1

Use sniip for the utilities, problem solved!

        • Doesn’t this charge surcharge?

          • @ts13: Yes, but good to meet the monthly spend if your short.

      • Eligible Transaction means any purchase excluding (but not limited to) Cash Advances, Balance Transfers, Special Promotions, BPAY payments, purchases of foreign currency and travellers cheques, transactions made in operating a business, bank fees and charges such as interest and ATM charges and government related transactions. Government related transactions include transactions with government or semi-government entities, or relating to services provided by or in connection with government (for example but not limited to transactions made at Australia Post, payments to the Australian Taxation Office, council rates, motor registries, tolls, parking stations and meters, fares on public transport, fines and court related costs).

I think those exclusions are pretty standard on most credit cards. Gone are the days when you could pay your tax bill on an Amex without paying a surcharge.

        • Check the bonus points exclusions t&c's as well. When I had this card a few years ago the normal points and bonus points had different t&c's.

Definitely can't use PayPal as a loophole to pay council rates with this one.

      • Anyone knows if school fees charged through credit card will be eligible? Can’t find anything that they’re not but someone might have first hand experience. It’s the only way I can fulfill $1500 per month transactions. They are eligible on other credit cards that I used.

  • not sure which one to choose, any help?

    • Same here. $1500 monthly spend may be concern

    • +2

Westpac altitude Platinum seems good value

      • +1 (sign in with your account for $0 annual fee + $50 reward fee)

  • +4

At this rate (and judging from the recent packed lounges I've visited) every man and his dog will have Virgin Gold status come 2023……they gave me 12 months out of the blue and I'm still not exactly sure why!?!

I'd probably be a little annoyed if I had legitimately earned it through frequent flying thinking it was something a bit more 'exclusive'.

    • Pretty easy to rack up Gold with $299 Business Class flights offering 80SC per flight until end of June. Currently on my way to Gold myself after starting off at Red this year, and now Silver

      • Wow what business fare you book for $299! That’s amazing!!

        • +4

East coast as far as Adelaide. Brisbane-Melbourne will get you 115SC until June 30 which will give you the most SC for $299 unlike Sydney-Adelaide which is also $299, but only racks up 80SC (normally 55SC)

          • @kerfuffle: That’s such good info for the novice like me! Thanks so much, might need to plan a trip before June

            • @fatming: No problem! If the flights are more than $299, you've unfortunately missed out on that fare price.

          • @kerfuffle: Ahhh - that's why I can't get a points upgrade at the moment.

            • +1

@jetfar: Plenty of Business Class space on my Adelaide to Melbourne flight next Friday! ;) I’m the only one booked in there so far haha

  • Can we convert virgin miles to KrisFlyer Singapore airlines miles?

  • +1

Arrgghh, I just applied for Velocity Flyer card 2 weeks ago and still waiting for the card to arrive!

    • Try choosing the unique benefit anyways. I am just about to have 25,000 points from the first month, let’s see if it triggers 40k as well :)

    • Received the 40,000 points anyways. Applied for the card in March, well before I selected this offer. Love it!

  • It doesn't look like there is any 12 month exclusion period for Virgin credit cards? Can anyone confirm if this is the case?

    • Yeah it states 'new customers only', I've had one a few years back. I will try and call them

  • -1

Can we apply this Citibank credit card and get the bonus velocity points or gold status?

    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/687349

    • Not on their list of eligible cards so i'm afraid not no

  • Dam, not sure i'll be able to close 1 card in time to churn onto that Virgin Money Flyer card in time before their offer ends. Anyone had luck with having 4 cards at once with a 800+ credit score?

    • Yes. 6 credit cards & 800+ score.
      Applying this one as well

      • Wow! I'm doing it all wrong then haha. Can i assume you're over $30k limit then?

        • Yes. I always go for minimum. $6000 in each.

      • Hi. How do you check your credit score (and is there an impact/knock on effect if I check it)? Thanks

    • I tend to keep 2 and rotate the 3rd, but if you've got a good credit rating worth a short before the deadline?

      • Yeah that's usually what i do, this is a deal hard to pass up though so thinking of just going for it.

  • Does virgin money credit card run by citi?

    • Yes it is.

I've got one long term card underwritten by Citi that I keep permanently and it doesn't seem to have stopped me from getting approved for other Citi underwritten cards in the past e.g. the Virgin High Flyer (annoyingly just finished up on this one in Feb so can't use this offer for that).

      • I have been rejected by citi for a few times..not quite sure why as I got good credit score and far above the minimum income.

        • Me too, I think they flag us as use and abusers, wondering if there's anyway around this?

          • @lilfatbum: I heard that one of my friend called them and talked to them to get it approved..

      • So it will be run by NAB soon?

"As you may have heard, National Australia Bank Limited (‘NAB’) entered into an agreement with Citigroup last year to acquire the Citi consumer banking business in Australia.

The sale is subject to regulatory approval and we’re expecting the business to be transferred to NAB on 1 June 2022 (the ‘Transfer Date’)."

Note for Velocity Gold for Singapore Airline in Singapore the lounge is the gold lounge when they decide to reopen. This lounge does not have a shower or even bathroom.

Note Perth Airport Singapore Airline lounge also does not have a shower. Saying that l believe T1 does have a shower.

At other country you get access to the standard silver lounge provided Singapore Airline operates this. For Velocity gold you do not get access to Star Alliance lounges. This can be a problem when flying Singapore Airline and they don't operate a kris lounge.

    • The gold lounge in Singapore has been revamped and now has shower facilities

  • Westpac altitude Platinum is the one for me. That equates to around 70k Kris Flyer for $100. Good value.

Just need to clear and close my recent Bank of SA card (which was $29 for 50k KF, bargain). That's one way Syd to London.

    • If you open a Westpac bank account, they'll waive the fee.

Curious which Bank SA card you had?

    • EDIT:

      Nvm

    • F*** me that's a good offer. I didn't even think of Bank of SA. I chase KF as well, and just joined St George a few months ago to get my 130k = 65k KF miles for $0 annual fee.

But 50k KF for $29 is also one of the best KF offers around. I just submitted to open an everyday account with Bank of SA, so will get $40 bonus if I meet the targets, so essentially pays for annual fee +$11, or maybe they will have a $0 annual fee offer once I have access to their promos.

      Thanks nickyd84!

      • +1

You do know if you earn bonus points with St George that you won't qualify for the bonus points with Bank of SA right?

        • Yes I do now, aw shucks

  • +2

Virgin gold gets you Hilton gold too which is a great benefit

    • +2

Please note some trial Virgin Gold does not give you access to Hilton Gold.

Not sure if this applies to this one.

    • And Europcar status.

  • Has anyone received the email confirmation yet?

    • I just got my email confirmation this arvo. Took almost 2 days so don't panic. If you log into your virgin account and click on the offer it will tell you what you have already selected and that they will be in contact (to give a bit of peace of mind).

      • I haven't had a confirmation email yet.
