  • Thoughts on the need for a water filter in Australia? Given a relatively modern house (within 10 years) is it still worth it?

    • +3

When you boil water in an electric kettle, do you get build-up on the bottom? With this, the build-up I get is greatly reduced

      • +1

        Second this.
Been filling the kettle with filtered water for a month now, and it makes a huge difference. Easy to see with my glass kettle.
Probably get more of an effect here in Perth than other cities, the water is very hard here.

      • Must be dead bodies of the germs at the bottom

    • +2

It's not really anything to do with the age of the house as much as the quality of the water supply. The water where I live tastes highly metallic. The next city over tastes fine. Both cities are of comparable size and infrastructure.

    • +1

After I use this (in Sydney) my water tastes very noticeably better

  • +1

We live in a fairly new house in Melbourne (less than 3 years). We felt an improvement in water flavour once we started using Brita filtered water.

    • +2

I think that’s because tap water is chlorinated by default. So when you remove that, you get a more neutral flavour.

Not saying good or bad, etc.

  • +4

Does anyone actually replace these every 2 months/40 gallons? I only change it when I remember and can find a decent deal on them.

    • +4

I replace mine when the water starts tasting like it isn't being filtered.

    • +1

I use the timer display thing on my jug. Sometimes I reset it, so replacing every 2 months

      • I do wonder how liberal I can be with ignoring the icon that the filter is "empty"

      • The timer seems extremely enthusiastic in my case. I’ll probably reset it at least once before changing it.

    • ……would it put you in shock if I remind you the pack says replace every month

    • Yes, they'll start growing bacteria and stuff so I try not to use them for too long.

      • I have been using mine for 5+ resets. But I boil my water first, then let it cool down then I pour it into the filter jug. Been working fine :).

Maybe its time to change it.

  • I'm looking for some but some of those reviews for delivery in Aus from the UK seller are iffy AF.

  • super nice price!!!

  • What about flouride?

    • +1

Yeah this filter won’t do fluoride. You’ll need something much better.

I have a Southern Coast Pottery jug (12L) which filters fluoride, chlorine but not minerals. Costs significantly more than the Brita units of course and filters far slower, but the water is nigh perfect.

My coffee machine loves it too.

    • Is this a health or chemistry requirement?

  • Does it expire?

  • Only 5 left in stock

  • Thanks OP, good buy.

  • Made in UK according to Customer questions & answers (not Germany or China) if that matters. Purchased.

  • +1

    Price increased to $166?

    • 175.03

  • KMart filter still comes out to be cheaper at less than $5 a filter

  • Will something like puratap better than this?

  • Got the 12 pack instead since 15 is oos.

    • +2

      $7.80 (12 pack) v $6.88 (15 pack) per filter. I missed out. I may buy the 12 pack though.

Under $8 is what I aim for and these are UK made v the Chinese made which is pretty much the normal in Australia now.
