Some excellent reviews and comments about these. Keep in mind that these are refurbished from Sony. If you're looking for a brand new pair, you should be able to wait and grab them from $300 when on sale next.

I bought this recently during this month's Telstra Day for $289. Coming from low-end gear (various Soundpeats, Taotronics etc), these sound great!

I ordered a bunch of items from sony Au ebay when the $8 headphones deal was posted.
Took 11 days, me contacting support and then requesting order cancellation via ebay for them to finally "ship them out".
Except its a week later and the tracking numbers provided aren't even real ones.

Pretty shitty experience with sony au ebay..

Their phone support is nice and friendly, but they can do next to NOTHING. They can't cancel an order, they can't refund, they can't alter it (even ones placed through sonys own website). They have to go to management for basically anything that isn't answering a question and this often requires them having to send off an email, so no instant responses, sometimes it takes 24 hours, others it takes a week…
Oh, and for some reason one of their support members feels the need to constantly tell me about how bad his life is, in great detail..

    • Sorry to hear it! My one experience with Sony's eBay store was great. Purchased a pair of refurbished WH-1000XM3, they were like brand new and delivered very quickly. Hopefully your issue is a one off and gets sorted.

I'm not all that worried about the items, ebay support has always been great, so when the delivery dates are up and items have not arrived, I will contact ebay.
I'm mostly frustrated at how much of a mess sonys support system and communication are.

    • If you started a cancellation through ebay, then after a few days you can ask ebay to step in. Are you a plus member?

If you get nowhere with the seller, escalate to ebay?

      • I have to wait the delivery period out.
So if the items dont arrive by tomorrow, which is the latest estimated date, then I'll file one and get ebay to step in.

Part of the reason for this is due to Sony outsourcing their inventory management/warehousing and dispatch to DHL/TOLL (can't remember, I just remember they always had a blue sticker so I think it was TOLL)

    • Hope you saved that support person's life!

      • Pretty sure the way they wanted help was financial.
I've been told the same things by them multiple times. They clearly don't remember its me and just share it with everyone.

    • The eBay store seems to be a front for their online store, the tracking number they provided me never worked but eventually I got all of the ear and headphones I ordered from the cheap deals, there was no box damage which was cool. I think when ordering from them you just need to wait 2 weeks and forget about it otherwise you'll get grumpy with the incorrect tracking etc.

      Is it on ozb?

      • It was. Out of stock the same day.

  • Is the XM4 worth the extra $100 over XM3 ?

    • +1

Apparently, YES! is the unequivocal answer to that question online. I know not because I have them, but because I'm in the market for some!

    • The differences between the XM3 and XM4 (in my experience) are:
      - simultaneous pairing with 2 devices
      - marginally better noise cancellation
I'd say mic quality is the same - they are equally poor. Sound quality is the same. I like the audio feedback (beeps) on the XM4 when you interact with the touch panel on the right earcup.
I don't think these additions are worth an extra $100 though.

    • You lose nfc wireless pairing but the fit is far better.

The anc may be just a bit better. I have 2x WF1000-XM3's. I prefer the xm4's.

The battery also feels much better, but I've had the xm3's for longer, and one of them is a seconds from Sony.

  • Be careful of the warranty void catch which I had from Sony ebay seconds. My case is still pending to be resolved under NSW Fair Trading right now. I'll never touch any refurbished products.

From their deal's experience, letting you know Sony eBay has one of the WORST customer service experience.

In the interest of balance, here's my story. I've bought 2 separate pairs of headphones from the Sony eBay store (xm3 in ear and xm4 over ear), both seconds, and never had a single problem.
Both arrived quickly and with no further intervention.

Not saying other people are wrong, just saying it goes well sometimes too
