Help Finding over-Ear Headphones for Cardio

I’ve been using in-ear headphones for running but they constantly break. I’m struggling to find some over-ear headphones with a good build that are also:

  • sweat proof
  • wireless
  • light
  • good build quality
  • decent sound

So I’ve come here & hope you can help. Ideally I’d love to spend under 100 bucks but I’d be willing to push that to 300 or slightly more for something that will last 2-3 years min.

Many thanks

  • running outdoors/treadmill or both?

I would have a feeling that using over-ear headphones whilst running would probably make them fall off or at least come loose every few minutes. Have you tried in ear earphones with the hooks that go over your ears? They're typically quite secure, even for running.

Also feel like your head/ears would get a lot hotter a lot faster with over-ear headphones.

  • Backbeat 6100 circa $140 or cheaper if going 2nd tier sources

  • I ran between 5km to 21km near on daily for 2 years with some $50 TaoTronics. They were freaking awesome and still get used when I mow.

    • did u need special ear tips or something to stop them from falling out?
p.s. do u remember which model?

I run about 10k/day need some new headphones to haha.

  • Mostly treadmill with a bit of outdoors. Thanks for your replies those backbeat 6100 could be the ticket. Will check out taotronics too. It sounds as well like none of the big manufacturers have anything really suitable

    • I suspect u'd probably want good noise cancelling in that case

  • Love my AfterShokz Aeropex headphones. Only real downside is listening in a noisy environment - can be quite difficult/impossible if there's enough (loud) ambient noise, especially when listening to podcasts; they do come with some foam ear plugs to negate this, but I always have fun getting/keeping those in. The band can also be a little annoying when lying down with them on, but that's rare enough for me.

Over-ear + cardio = sweat buildup under the ears. It's really annoying.

  • I know your after over the ears now (wouldn't they be bulky when running?) but suggest going back to in-ears type but with the Samsung Galaxy Buds live instead, the buds live are different to your usual in ears type as there not the foam canal holding type, they are one of a kind bean shaped buds that fit in inner ear and actually are nearly impossible to full out of ears, these are ridiculous cheap on eBay as market flooded from previous deals of buds added to phone deals during Samsung sales of new phones (note: there not perfect at noise cancelling if any), well for $85 can't go wrong trying them out

  • Do yourself a favour and get the Trekz Air.

A little on the pricey side at the moment, but IMHO you simply can't fault these for just about any exercise-based use case.

    • Always wanted to get these by chance you own a pair yourself? If so the benefits over other tyoe of headphones using these?

      • Yep, got my own and one for the missus.

The benefits are they are rock solid/don't move when exercising. Have used for running and cycling and tip top, no dramas. On top of that, the fact they don't sit in your ear means you have no problem with sweat in regards them staying in place or any other related discomfort.

I believe they were designed for/by cyclists with the idea being that you could still hear important ambient noise (because the ears are still open), primarily cars coming up behind you so have that safety feature.

In all honesty, since acquiring mine about three years ago, I've just not looked back.

        • sounds like OP is mainly indoors on treadmill so safety feature may not be a must.
          Hows the noise cancelling?

          • @gimli: Not noise cancelling at all. Total design theory is to let relevant ambient noise in. Not what you want if you want noise cancelling.

  • MEE Audio has some great over the ear wireless sports headphones https://www.meeaudio.com/sport
Been using them for over 5 years now
