Cheap weights.. where to get them?

hey guys, i just want to buy a couple plates — only around 40kg or so. i looked at rebel and they were asking for $2 per 1kg and that's just outrageous for some pieces of heavy metal.

  • You won't find it much cheaper than that new mate.
If you think thats outrageous, you will need to try your luck with ebay/gumtree etc or garage sales

$2 per kg seems to be the price on Gumtree as well for used weights. Not surprising as the cost of processed iron is at about $1.50 per kg. You might find some pricing at less than $2 per kg but probably not by much.

  • The cheapest I've seen is $1.25/kg brand new from my local fitness store.(Olympic Sized Weights)

But $2-$2.50 is the usual price

  • Kmart often have them at good prices.

  • I'd suggest looking on ebay for free pickup for auctions near you. I picked up over 80kg of plates (2x20kg plates in the lot) with couple of bars for just over a hundy a year or so ago. Just really lucked in with that one…

$2 per kilo pretty cheap for new plates. A couple of years ago rebel was selling them at $4 per kilo.

  • Find some scrap lead (e.g. old car batteries) and make your own, with a sand mould.
Iron is a bit hard to cast at home.
