Woolworths Delivered Order to Wrong Address (Neighbour Denies Receiving)

Need your advice my friends.

Approx. 5.30pm today I received a text message saying my order has been successfully delivered, but I couldn't find it outside.

Immediately ring Woolworths and after 20-30 minutes with assistance of Google Street View, Woolworths confirmed order was delivered to the opposite street (This is not a surprise to me, and this happened multiple times in the past by different couriers including Auspost).

In the past I always let it go, but this time circumstance is different. We are in the unplanned COVID isolation and we run out of foods. Woolworths time slots are not too many for my area and lead time is usually 2-3 days. I can't wait even for 1 more day because my fridge is empty. I explained the situation to the operator and the operator contacted the delivery driver and asked the driver to go back to the wrong address, collect the grocery and send them to me.

In about 1.5 hours (approx 7pm), I didn't hear anything. Then I followed up with Woolworths customer service. I was told:

  1. The driver came to the wrong address but grocery bags were no longer there. People inside the house told the driver they didn't receive anything (although the driver has Proof of Delivery picture).

  2. The driver apologies for the incorrect delivery.

  3. Woolworths can place an order for next Monday delivery.

I am not allowed to go out due to isolation. Otherwise I will go and have a friendly conversation with the neighbour.

I think the incorrect delivery issue will continue in the near future. OzBargain friends do you have any suggestions how we can ask the neighbour to be honest next time?

I am really struggled because I run out of food. I will order Dominos tomorrow (one of the few delivery options for my area).

Not so sure about supermarkets, but during one of the lockdowns I randomly got somebody’s Lite and Easy order. I called them up to notify and, even though I hadn’t actually brought the order inside or touched it (details of person to whom it was meant to go was on the outside) they advised me they couldn’t take it back for the above, so… free food! Sadly, Melissa and my taste in dinners did not align…

If you are in west message me. I can get some food and drop it at your address.

Thank you so much for your kindness. I will order pizza for today. I found some red beans/green beans and instant noodles and I will be good for today. Woolworths will redeliver tomorrow. Thanks again!

If I hadn't moved to Brisbane before the pandemic THIS is what I would have offered to do too!

      You're a champ mate!

      • Thank you so much for your courtesy.

  • I'd be surprised if the people in the house took it, stealing groceries is low and they would have expected someone to question it.

Some scum kids probably saw them left there, took the bags and threw them in the bin after taking anything of interest.

Check parks and hangout areas near the house it was left at for evidence

Check parks and hangout areas near the house it was left at for evidence

      .

I am not allowed to go out due to isolation.

    • I would be surprised if anyone took them from a front door so quickly, especially when its getting close to dark/ maybe already dark

      • School holidays. (profanity) kids everywhere.
Especially if as the OP says he's in an area with young families.

        • I only heard one side story from the supermarket. I still can't believe the neighbour took my grocery. Once I get out of isolation, I will leave a note to the neighbour and try to have a friendly conversation.

      • The street is a very quiet street. Rarely to see any foot traffic.

    • Hi, I agree with you. I still can't believe people inside the house took it. Maybe there is misunderstanding and miscommunication. I would speak to the neighbour if I was not on isolation.

Check parks and hangout areas near the house

Sure, and while they're out they can go buying some food as well. LOL

If you’re in the south eastern suburbs of Melbourne I’m happy to drop you off some stuff.

    • +4

Thank you so much. I am good for today and I am waiting for replacement order to be delivered tomorrow. Figure crossed Woolies deliver to the correct address tomorrow.

      • +6

Fingers crossed for you. Offer stands if order doesn’t come tomorrow and you’re in the south east. Let me know!

I replied to someone else's comment offering a similar solution / help.

      You're another champ!!!

Woolworths delivered it to the wrong address, as disgusting as the degenerates that stole your groceries are there's always something the company could do to help you above and beyond delivering it the next business day. They could organise a casual to come in for three hours to pick your groceries and hand deliver them to the correct door. That's the sort of action that keeps a customer loyal and coming back. But they don't give a shit because profits and individual bonuses and whatever corporate crap they can spew.

  • Gees what kind of ghetto do you live in OP

    Not Shankston or Dandenong?

    • +2

I wouldn't worry at all if I live around Dandenong. There are plenty of food delivery services around Dandy. I am in a greenfield estate where food delivery is limited.
I still can't believe my neighbours refused to return orders. There may be some miscommunication between truck driver, Woolworths operator and myself.

  • +2

Have had similar issues with their partner delivery drivers, taxis etc, yet never with the actual Woolworths delivery drivers. We simply dont choose a time that states it will be delivered with a partner driver any more and no longer have an issue.

  • +3

Although it's not a major issue, when I order food delivery the GPS brings them to the rear of my property (which isn't even the same street).

I just make sure I add delivery instructions (which they dont follow until, they are trying to find where to go on the wrong street), but eventually find the way.

If you know you're going to have delivery issues, make sure you add a full description on the driver instructions for orders:

"gps will take you to the wrong street, make sure it's x street with the red house"

This wont help now, but hopefully will in the future.

Also I'd be escalating through woolworths and order a redelivery either today or tomorrow. Basically say driver stuffed up and you have minimal food and are in isolation. If they cant help - ask for manager and tell the manager "how are you going to fix this situation".

I would send your neighbour dog poop.

    • Cheap Monday easter eggs with poop inside.

    • +3

      Then you'd be a lowlife.

There are plenty of possible explanations that mean the neighbours are telling the truth (porch pirates, driver all mixed up and gave that order to someone else entirely, driver lying, etc). I'd hate to have you on a jury.

  • See if they can use “what3words” to point them to your front door?

  • +2

Put something the other house doesn’t have, a plant or a bench or pot of flowers. Say leave by …..

  • +1

Ww app for driver has built in map (not google map) but again not always accurate,
If you know your address is easily mistaken by your neighbour, you should add some instructions in all capital letters.
Driver has to pay for the wrong delivery though.

    • Thank you. I will do as per your suggestion. Every time when there is a new driver there will be incorrect deliveries. No matter it is Woolworths or Auspost or other couriers.

    • +1

The most likely data source (if it's not Google maps) is openstreetmap (it's what's used for Apple maps and a whole bunch of other services, including strava & komoot) - I make minor edits to it regularly to correct/add things related to cycling & navigation for cycling.

OP: if you PM the gps coords of your home and the correct full address (number, street name, suburb, postcode) + gps coords of other/wrong house and it's full address, then I am happy to check both for you and correct/add their details if they are wrong/missing.

Im normally pretty good with new estates, but i recently went to one that was so poorly designed, i had to resort to calling the person to get step by step directions, it just made zero sense how to get to their actual property based on an address alone.

  • All drivers need to take a photo of their drop. If they didn't take a photo or it was a photo of the wrong location, then they should give you a refund. You could ask Woolies to show you the photo they took.

    • +1

did you actually read the OP's post?

    • +1

Hi, yes Woolies truck driver took multiple pictures as proof of delivery. Woolies shared the pictures with me after my request. I can confirm it was delivered to the wrong address.
Woolies also acknowledged the incorrect delivery by reviewing the POD pictures and Google Street View. (Thanks to Dr. Google)

  • +4

In the future, for Woolies, you can add an instruction to 'call my number when you arrive'. Drivers are taught to do this. They are also supposed to call you if they can't find your building, cannot access your building or no-one is home (with no authority to leave).

    • Thank you for sharing! I will add more delivery instructions going forwards.

  • +5

Hang a colourful bird outside your house and put notes for the delivery driver to LOOK FOR THE FRICKIN' COLOURFUL GIANT BIRD when delivering.

Thank you. I will secure my kid's green scooter on top of letter box:)

  • What suburb in Melbourne did this happen in? South East? Clyde? Clyde North? Botanic Ridge?

    • Northern suburbs of Melbourne.

    Log into Google maps.

Click on your house and update the Google maps address.

Click on your neighbours house, update their address.

Add stick on large door numbers to your mailbox.

    Fix the system.

    • Excellent advice. Nothing was wrong on Google map, but Google direction only lead driver to the nearest intersection. I am in a new estate. I have already reported the issue to Google.

    • +8

      found the neighbour

    • I have multiple pictures of proof of bags left outside their door. I have absolute no intention to report anyone.
Due to COVID isolation I can't go out to speak to them.
If they took them I genuinely believe there must be a reason.
I will send them a note today and ask them to contact me if they receive any unexpected deliveries.

  • Were Coles not available for delivery either? Use your woolworths credit later

    • Coles has even longer lead time for delivery.

      • You weren't having any luck 🙄

I recently had a bad experience with woolies online. Ordered Sunday night for a Tuesday night delivery (7-10pm) as that was all they had. Texted me at 9pm on Tuesday evening saying order going to be delayed up to 4 hours, if that's too late please call customer service. Call customer service and wait time is 1 hour 50 mins. Give up. Call them the next day and they say, next delivery time is Thursday night.

    • +1

Worst thing about calling customer service, besides the long wait, is the same song that plays over and over that entire time… Would have preferred listening to shitty pop radio music than that.

    • Compared with Coles, I still find Woolworths delivery is better in term of time slot, product availability.

      • +1

Delivery much more expensive from woolworths though

  • +4

Man, what pathetic behaviour from the neighbour.
I hope everything gets sorted and you and your family have a rapid recovery.

    • Thank you Hoolio, I would not blame my neighbour there must be a reason of people doing that. We are good now and all tested negative last night. We are now out of isolation. Thank you for your care!

  • +7

Funnily enough - I got a delivery from Woolies we didnt order last week. 4 bags of food. Called up Woolies and they said it was probably an error and they I can keep it since the delivery person wont come and pick it up.
I suspected it was for my neighbour so I stored the meat items in my fridge and checked with him when he got back home. It was actually his. Poor sap barely spoke any English and was trying to talk to Woolies customer care about his missing items with no great success.

    • +6

Now that I think about it, he was probably isolating - wore a mask and plastic gloves when he came out. Damn!

    • +4

      Well done!

  • +1

Did you receive the Take 2 delivery OK on Monday?

    • +4

Hi Kajke, yes I did receive the replacement delivery on Monday. All good now and we are officially out of isolation today. I learnt a lesson and always store some extra food at home.

      • +1

Yes - ensure pantry is well-stocked at all times because you never know when 'rona or a deceitful neighbour may strike ;)

        • Thank you.

  • +4

    "Dear neighbour,

I just wanted to let you know that Woolies dropped our groceries off at your place, and have since informed us that their driver may have been Covid positive and asked us to sanitise the goods.

I understand you did not take the stuff, so you should be fine."

  • Just keep making complaints to woolies and the problem will fix itself. Woolies delivery drivers are under strict KPI's and these delivery errors are one of them. If the same error is popping up over and over again, a higher up will notice and make the necessary changes to ensure it doesn't happen in the future specifically to your property/area

In the meantime, if neighbour is keeping your groceries, not much you can do unfortunately.

    • Thank you. I believe the issue comes from Woolies map direction. I will provide feedback to Woolies.

Don't worry they kept the grocery. There must be a reason for them to do it.

I do appreciate Woolies ordered the replacement for me and delivered on Monday.

  • Woollies stuffed up my order a few months back. I ordered x2 packets of maxibon ice cream. What I received was another person’s order of x2 small lasagnes, pack of mini Dagwood dogs, woollies brand meat lovers pizza, 2 packets of fish cakes. Think it was their dinner order I contacted woollies via their online chat and they refunded me the money within a few days they wont pickup the items as they are freezer items. Felt sorry for the person (they probably like the maxibons for dinner)but I can give them a thumbs up on the meals.

  • I doubt it was delivered to your neighbor. How can you be so sure your neighbor was not honest? Likely delivered to somewhere else not around your area. I had similar experience and turned out it was delivered to a house 2km away from my house. Luckily they are nice people.
