The update this morning is mainly used to introduce this new feature, where you can now add a deal to a folder that you own. It is like bookmarking a deal, but now you have bookmark folders where you can add the deals there. I know historically some people have been using +ve votes to "bookmark" a deal where they can access later (from their own "voted deals" list). However +ve vote wasn't really designed for this — you might not actually want to +1 it to skew the votes.
Anyway, this is for members only (like many features on OzBargain) so if you are looking at this post as a guest user, register an account :) To use this:
- Go to a deal page. For example, Logitech's G27 Racing Wheel deal from yesterday.
- You'll see a new option "Bookmark" somewhere in the middle of the page. Click on that.
- You can then add this deal to your existing folder or create a new folder, which you need to give a name (limit to 40 characters). In my example, I create a new folder called "My Wish List"
- The deal is linked to your folder after you click on the checkbox. You can see all your folders in "My Account" -> "Folders". You can then go to your specific folder there to see the deals you have bookmarked.
- All folders are by default Private, i.e. only you can see it. However, you can optionally change the sharing option (in your folder page, click on "Preference") to either "Other users on OzBargain" or "Public" (where guests would be able to see). In my example, I am changing my Folder sharing option to "Other users on OzBargain" — so here it is:
http://www.ozbargain.com.au/folder/2
- There are also options to help you to clean up your folder (you know, when bookmarks become too messy). For example Delete the whole folder, Clear All the deals in the folder to have a fresh start again, or Clear only the expired deals.
Currently each person can have maximum 25 folders.
Hopefully some will find this helpful. Feel free to provide feedbacks and ideas how you would use your bookmark folders.
Sweet option for a wish list, i assume there is no limit to number deals in a folder ?
