All time low was ($211.65) here: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/689417

    • +1

Not really comparable since it needed afterpay payment.

      • -6

So what? everyone has a card and could make an afterpay account. This isn't a $1000+ item that would of needed gift cards or whatever.

        • +1

Not everyone has the need to pay their stuff in instalments or wants unnecessary credit checks. Calm down

          • +14

@dosada: Afterpay does not do credit checks. You can pay all the installments off instantly after purchase.
At least educate yourself before you bring up arguments…

            • -1

              @samuria: (profanity) BNPL.

            • @samuria: Spot on. I built a whole new rig during the afterpay sales and just paid the entire amount off in one go, person you’re referring to clearly has an (uninformed) bone to pick with afterpay.

            • -1

@samuria: Even so, it's still yet another faceless entity with your details just to save a couple of dollars. I'm avoiding that, whenever possible. Too many breaches lately and they seem to spring up and then fail soon after: https://www.news.com.au/finance/business/banking/in-real-tro…

              • @Geekomatic: My guy, if you dont want your details stolen, just disconnect your router. I agree that BNPL orgs prey on the vulnerable to make any profit, but the user is equally stupid if they buy things they can't afford. For me, it's just another convenient way to pay because I know I am responsible with my money.

                • @samuria: I'm savvy enough to use a honeypot email/bank DC (FWIW). I'm talking about the fact that there's little to no security out there to protect the data we've already been forced to use— due to removing face-to-face jobs and handing off to whomever so CEO's get richer. Still, I'm sitting tight with a couple of long-time banks and security tokens (to protect my online payments). It's becoming quite unsafe to simply open accounts all over the place. Eventually, your alias will get connected and that's the end of that. Have a read here. Not precisely this issue, but shows how criminals are evolving.

  • Are these boards better than x570 tomahawk?

    • +1

x570 tomahawk is more mainstream focused, this is more overclocking focused. B550 gives you more range on the BCLK but less features for example.

    • Depends on whether you want 2 x PCIe gen 4 x4 SSD and having chipset supporting PCIe gen 4 x4.
This one, if you want all 4 M.2 SSDs, it looks like 1 x PCIe gen 4 x4 (from CPU), 1 x PCIe gen 3 x4 (from chipset) and 2 x PCIe gen 3 x2 (from chipset).

      • as mentioned below: No, the M.2 can be 3 off the CPU also, the middle two slots are configured for dual operation. This is actually awesome cos 4.0x8 is plenty of lanes for a modern card.

  • Only two dimm slots. This one is really good for memory overclockers, the two dimm slots with shorter tracers are better for memory overclocking.

It does have 4 M.2. slots though, three off the chipset. Pretty good price for a high end board.

No, the M.2 can be 3 off the CPU also, the middle two slots are configured for dual operation. This is actually awesome cos 4.0x8 is plenty of lanes for a modern card.

      • Good point, the default mode has them running through the chipset, 4.0X8 is plenty bandwidth even for a 3090.

If people only need two M.2. slots though people can look at the B550M Mortar for about $149, it has a good VRM and will handle the entire Ryzen range.

just beware if you want to use the bottom PCIE lane, u then can’t use the m.2 slot there

  • Is this a superior board to MSI B550 Gaming Edge WiFi? I want to pair it with AM4 5600 + rx 6600 xt.

    • Yes if you have 16gb sticks of ram

    • this board is thick and heavy

      • Is that a good thing, or a bad thing?

    • I think I'll be in the same situation. Haven't looked at any boards yet though. Also thinking of the 5600X if I can find it on special in a month or two.

Another one I just came across in a smaller frame that seems to be good is the MSI MAG B550M MORTAR WIFI Micro ATX but really, I have no idea.. :D

      • +1

I have the b550m mortar, has been a great board so far. Could do with a few more usb slots if I’m being nitpicky but that’s it really.

        some b550 mobos options here
What budget and features? I want WiFi, front USB-C and as many USB ports as I can get. Check out MSI B550 Gaming Edge WiFi / MSI B550 Gaming Carbon (no WiFi), GIgabyte B550 AORUS ELITE AX V2 WIFI / Non-AX variant for no WiFi or the B550M version. The layout on the Gigabyte boards are truely beautiful. Have you considered the 5600 non-x?

        • Budget is probably the $200ish mark but I can go anywhere 30% up or down if it's good bang-for-buck. Really just looking for a good sale for anything really but my wants would be somewhat like yours.

A front USB-C and a lot of USB ports for all my damn prepherials, as I don't enjoy using USB hubs. I've been using a USB wifi key for a few years now but haven't really done any competitive gaming but I guess a WIFI board would be more integrated and reduce 1 USB port.. 😅 I think my only constraint would be not wanting a board with a cheaper/flat looking IO interface. I've only ever owned boards that are more budget and less flashy but I'm really diggin' the look of the new motherboards that have that beefy internal IO section.

Also, I haven't really looked up the difference between ATX and mATX, but from what I understand, in comparison, you could lose out up to like 15% performance but also can be anywhere from 10 - 25% cheaper at times, also sometimes sacrificing features or your patience when dealing with tighter fitments..? 😅 I'd really like to have a smaller build this time as I've only ever had standard ATX builds.

          -

I had considered the 5600 but I did see a video recently where a few people mentioned that if you an get the 5600x on decent special it's still an OK buy as you're getting another 400mhz on the baseclock I believe? But yeah, I'll have to rewatch that Gamers Nexus video, but from memory he was only showing a 1 - 2% performance increase, even 0% increase in some titles.

  • pretty nice looking baord

  • can this fit a noctua d15? just bought this and a new d15 so hope they are compatible

    • probably. this mobo was designed for overclockers.
