is the link correct? This one works but the title one doesn't for me : https://www.bunnings.com.au/hikoki-18v-2-piece-brushless-cor…
And Hikoki is Hitachi's new name…didn't know that till now

  • Basically none in stock in WA. I was looking at these the other day. Can't seem to buy it though.

    • Did you try Bunnings Special order if not in stock?

      • I dont think it will work. according to them a 'live item' displayed on the website can not be done as special order until it is marked as 'special order'.
They cant even order in from another store.

  • I've seen hikoki in all bunnings now… but I could not be bothered buying into a new system

The link does not work for me! Bunnings also have similar Makita kit for $299 inc 5ah battery
Makita 18V 2 Piece Brushless Cordless Combo Kit

Hikoki kit not available in most Sydney stores..

I'm happy with my Hitachi gear but I probably wouldn't recommend buying into the system.

Skins are hard to come by, esoteric tool options basically don't exist.

    • Agree Hitachi and now HiKoki don't have big range, I was looking for their framing nail gun and finish nailer combo as it has good review. I am invested in Makita tools but Makita did not have good nail guns, so ended up getting the DeWalt ones. I think Makita, DeWalt and also Milwaukee are the way to go for quality and range.

      • I thought Hikoki have a reasonable range and their 36v is great as you can buy a 36v AC adaptor to make it a corded tool, where DeWalt wouldn't make 54v adaptor for theirs.

        • It all depends on the tools that you need. For a lot of people Hikoki have everything that they would need. The tools are good. But they don't do stuff like DeWalt where there is a lot of tools in the same category like a hammer drill but some of them are not worth the money while others are decent. It gets them more tools at different price points but it also means some of the tools are a pass.

@g1: After going through quite a few cordless tools, brand and battery system loyalty becomes less important.

No particular professional-tier brand excels in every skin for performance or price range; so sticking to just one battery system isn't going to offer you the best performance nor value, after getting more than half a dozen skins.

Milwaukee used to be great, when they introduced the Fuel range, but quality and durability issues started to appear very frequently for any motor-based tool after Gen3 impact drivers were released.
However, they have a great range of skins, especially if you need lighting or other niche tools.
            The battery chainsaw is nice.

Makita rotary hammer drills are beasts compared to others.
The new 40V Max XGT range needs more field data, but good so far.
They are comparitively expensive and have limited skins, at this point though.

Dewalt, Makita 18V LXT, Hikoki and Bosch often come up with very good value kits.
However, their skins come in different grade tiers, which may be hard to differentiate, so you'll need to do your research before purchasing.

Currently a Milwaukee user, but my old and abused Gen1 tools are far more reliable than my Gen3 gear.
Would not recommend Gen3+ impact drivers (more than half a dozen needing warranty work), and their rotary hammer drills are not that great.
Planning to transition into Makita 40V Max XGT, to replace some of older Milwaukee tools.

Milwaukee is starting to lose the current power tools arms race, by sticking with their M18 battery system, as batteries and motors generally work more efficiently at higher voltages rather than higher currents.

    • What would you get instead?

If I was to replace my Hikoki/Hitachi stuff then I would be looking at Milwaukee (also some interesting choices there as some odd items are missing and it is really expensive) or Makita. I would stay clear of DeWalt. I guess there is also AEG and Bosch and Stanley and Ryobi and Ozito (never again!). It seems to me Makita would be my 'default' choice. I am curious what others would choose.

      • I haven't had any problems with my AEG gear. Bought an 18V drill/driver combo with bonus angle grinder in 2018-ish. Then added a multitool as well.

Recently bought into milwaukee with a circular saw, framing nailer and SDS drill, very nice tools. AEG has got a framing nailer as well now, and SDS drills too.

Friend of mine went all Ryobi for his little woodworking shop at home, and some gardening tools, he's been happy with them

It's all the same parent company, Techtronic Industries

I bought a 2 battery Hikoki kit with drill, driver and one handed reciprocating saw for $399 from total tools, apparently they are a slow moving brand and the manager was happy to discount the Discontinued kit. Very happy.

I have this kit, highly recommend

There is a Hikoki $399 spend redemption. So need another $100 or more of eligible items. Does that apply at Bunnings? If not then TT is the way.

Out of the 3 items available at that redemption level ($399-$698) the battery is probably the best. The small redemption vacuum is terrible. The light is ok but the battery is more expensive so might be better value unless someone wants that light. Still, that vacuum is terrible so light or battery are a better choice.
