Worn mine twice since purchasing last year, not the best cut.

    • +9

I have had mine for a few years and it is the one that I wear the most.

      • +2

Ah, I'm short and stocky, look like a marshmallow on a stick! My Patagonia and Kathmandu not soo much.

  • +1

Is there anywhere you can try this on?

    • +7

I would definitely recommend trying them on. From previous threads seems like the womens size run small whereas the mens size run big.

      They have stores - https://www.macpac.com.au/our-stores

      Otherwise Rebel Sports stock Macpac.

      At the macpac stores ?

      • +1

Never realised they had Macpac stores.

I just checked then and there's only 3 here in WA… so pretty easy to miss.

        • Ray's outdoors got changed to Macpac stores.

  • The Uber Light jacket is also down to $99, does anybody have any experience with that one as it looks more my style ?

    • +1

I have one and I prefer one over the halo, I'm also usually the type to get hot real fast too, true to size, sleeve length is longer than I would like but its fine overall. I wear it to work as an outer layer over my shirt almost everyday.

      • Thank you - got one today and the sleeves are a bit weird. There’s defs room for some solid bingo wings in there as well

Thanks OP been keeping my eye out for something like this leading into winter!

  • +2

Thanks OP - was on the lookout for this.

Note that these jackets normally run quite large compared to their stated size, so go 1-2 sizes down compared to what you'd normally wear.

I normally run between S and M (pun not intended) and S was too large for me, and the XS fit me just perfectly.

Any tips for the best way to wash the down jackets? Mine's overdue for a wash from last winter

  • +3

Which version of these is from the official ozbargain apparel collection?

    • +7

The Halo Down. But you need to pair it with either Ultraboosts or RM Williams, clothes from Superdry and a Blunt umbrella.

  • I was inspired by one of the last times a Macpac deal was posted (well it was one of those posted between the 23rd-25th lol). I didn't get the exact one that was posted (paid a little more for a hooded version). Have worn it almost daily since the 28th and it's pretty good, wish the pocket size was a bit better (barely able to fit my wallet(s) in them). Should do me well over winter as even in the slightly coldish wet weather Melbourne has had recently (19ish degrees with rain) it felt like it was 30+ while wearing it.

  • mac, uber, lawsuits waiting

  • Waiting patiently for the Halo vests to go on sale.

  • Love my Halo Hooded, and these run a little larger than true to fit. I have a medium when normally I'm large. Have bought this as a non-hooded option. :)

Hello all, as a QLDer I'm new to this jackets world. But I'm planning to travel to the Himalayas in July, and just wondering if the hooded version would be fine for negative degrees weather. I would appreciate any recommendations :)

    • +1

Layers are your friend. A 260gsm merino wool thermal such as icebreaker is what I would recommend. Then wear whatever jacket on top

    • +1

no way, you need something made for canadian weather like -10 or -20. These are no where warm enough

      • This 100%. You need her rated to -20 at least. Hard to get in this country.

    • +1

If you're going to be walking and hiking around then you might want to find a jacket that is thinner while having similar or better thermal capability. While this one does stuff down, there are other jackets which are more compact and takes up less space. I don't know much about Himalayan weather but I prefer to bring a lighter Patagonia micro puff jacket when I travel and it's generally pretty warm over thermal base layers.

  • What size recommendation for a person slim build 6ft1 cheers

    • +1

      Medium

    • +1

Small in both styles is what I've got.

I'm 6'2'' or 3 and skinny. I could have probably almost got an XS in the Halo actually, the S in the Uber is a bit smaller than the Halo, but still okay for me.

    • Im 186cm and bought a small (Im about 75kg) in the hooded halo version in a sale they had in 2018 (got it for $125) - arms are plenty long enough (arms bent and pulling on the cuffs they come half way down my palms).

  • Can someone elaborate on differences between Halo and Uber?

  • Do these have the sleeping bag like bags to compact them down into a small package for travel? Like the Kathmandu ones do?

    • +2

      Yes.

  • Is it worth getting the Sundowner for waterproofness over the cheaper ones? Seems like a better jacket but is it worth it?

  • Thanks for posting this - just picked one up - really nice quality jacket - especially for $99! Much better than the equivalent Uniqlo. Sizes run pretty large, but v happy. Thanks again.

  • Should I get uber light or halo for melbourne weather?

    • +1

Well apparently Melbourne has four seasons in one day, so yes.

    • +1

After receiving no answers to my question above I read up about it and I think the answer is Halo (the Uber is a lighter/less warm jacket).

  • Thanks. Will get the halo!
