  • Man I wish PC parts came in such nice colors.

Before anyone says it, yes we all know you could probably get better value elsewhere even with a PC but that's not what this is about nor the target market:

    You buy this if:

You just want a single piece good looking device for average home use, excel, wordpressing, chrome.
Fits in a study or the house as a good looking piece.
Doesn't take up too much space.
The few hundred dollars premium is well worth it if you just want turn on and don't worry.

That’s how I treat all Apple products… they are just appliances.

      Nothing more nothing less.

You buy for the convenience and the fact you don’t need to do anything more.

Anyone that wants more needs to look elsewhere.

      • macOS has a lot of power user options built in, start exploring tips and tricks, Zsh and you'll realise that they're a lot more functional than your washing machine or fridge lol.

        • Only if I want to though… right now it’s a great machine to do work on it.

Closest thing I ever done was to sort out NTFS support on Mountain Lion via Terminal.

Could never get an all-in-one PC like this though…

  • Can these be wall mounted?

    • You can either purchase an M1 with Vesa mount (but no stand) for full RRP from Apple, or you can buy an adapter like this one which looks a bit ridiculous.

      • +2

VESA mount with the stand still hanging 🤦‍♂️

        • a shelf for the keyboard ¯_(ツ)_/¯

      • +1

        Good Lord that looks terrible.

This is the Apple compromise right, if you need to do anything even slightly leftfield it's adapter after adapter or custom software to perform basic tasks.

Not Apple bashing, it just did my head in when I had a Mac.

        • Pretty much… hence my comment about it being an appliance. Don’t think of it as a computer in the traditional sense.

Same goes with iPhones… people want to have this and that. I treat iPhones as appliances as well. If I wanted to customise I would of gone Android. I bought it cause I know it works for what I need it for and I know what it can’t do, same goes with this iMac.

I sold my 2015 27" for $1500 cash last year, got the 24" 8/512gb for $2250, $204 gst back and instant right off. typing on it now

    • sorry would you mind explaining how you got gst back and what you mean by instant write off? thanks mate

      • ABN business and claim gst back and instant tax right off.

    Definitely get 512gb.

I bought a M1 Air 256, 150gb has filled up as system files. Don't be an idiot like me and get the 512gb.

    • Thanks for the tip. That’s a lot of system files…

    • Agree with at least 512GB SSD, or even better get 1TB
Apple SSD use pretty fast SSDs

150GB in system files…do you mean apps, pics vids?
My M1 MacBook Pro 13” has 16GB in system files

      • Sorry, I just checked again

        System Data 72gb
        and mac os 15.76 gb.

Might be an iOS/ iPad backup or Mail files. Check your Library folders (for both user and root directories) to see what’s taking up the space. You can choose to calculate all sizes in the Finder view options so you can see the folder sizes to make this easier.

          • @happychappy1: I've had a look with the view you have referenced. It's not IOS or Ipad or Mail. It just grew over time.

Thanks - from my googling - it requires a reformat.

What it comes down to though, is the 256 is simply not enough. I'll definitely be buying the larger storage next time.

            • @Tech and cars: If you go into these folder and sort by size, you should be able to see exactly what is taking up space. It really depends on what you do, but normally applications will fill up this folder with their own files - not all of which are needed for their functioning.

this listing is so weird because it not only doesn't display how much system memory you're getting (probably 8gb which isn't enough) but also says it has a 10th gen i5 and a radeon gpu in the specifications despite being M1??

    • 8GB with M1 is not directly comparable to PC with Intel.

      • +2

        actually read what I said

    • -2

      its plenty

      • Do remember that the memory is not upgradable and this is not only a computer the buyer will have for years to come but also how much MacOS loves paging

        • -2

          M1

24" is just a bit too small for a desktop nowadays in my view. I'm so used to using a 32" it just feels right now, but I'd accept the 27", as that feels like the standard sized screen now.

    • nah I went from 27" iMac to 24"
