Good for people in Melbourne - going outside at the moment is not remotely appealing. Except to get food.
Low vitamin D in Victoria

Damn- I knew I should have bought a box 15 months ago!! Thanks for telling me!
Bought a stack at 69c 2 weeks back http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/68087
Is that 1000iu? Do they sell 500iu tabs?
Yea its 1000iu, not sure why you would want such a low dose though? 1000iu is already fairly low(I take 5000iu a day)
1000 is the standard dose. I haven't seen 500iu in my or any other pharmacy.
5000 should only be taken on your doctor's advice with follow-up vit D tests.
This article says 4000IU is a safe dose, so 1000IU more isn't all that much. I wouldn't go over 5000IU though unless suggested by a doctor and after doing more research.

"The 100-microg/d dosage of vitamin D3 effectively increased 25(OH)D to high-normal concentrations in practically all adults and serum 25(OH)D remained within the physiologic range; therefore, we consider 100 microg vitamin D3/d to be a safe intake."
Great price for Ostelin. Panamax has been cheaper as pointed about above (I think I got some at 69cents) but at the moment 99c seems to be the cheapest.
Panamax has been cheaper before. But the ostelins really cheap. Does annyone know why ostelin is always so much more dearer than other brands? Even compared to swisse vitamin d
Don't know why. I was told to take Ostelin (or I suppose any D3 supplement) and have Jarrow Formulas D3 (1000iu) which is $3.95 for 100 gel capsules from Vitacost. Don't forget there is the $10 discount on your first order with Vitacost too. More than doubled my (admittedly low) levels with this and has worked for others I know.
Doubt there's much to the brand name.
ostelin (and citracal) are the only vit d supplements recommended by governments and hospitals afaik
I wonder how many Ostelin supplied trips and other kick backs are given to those in the medical industry?
Health is one of the most corrupt businesses around - of course they all see it as legitimate.
That stuff looks good, but the main thing is to stop people taking the non-oil based (standard powdery style) tablets as they're poorly absorbed and you don't get anything like the dose that you think you're getting.
why the negs? don't like/agree with what i said or they recommend?
they don't recommend against taking other brands but i'm guessing most cited clinical research was done with those two

btw more hospitals probably use panamax than panadol
Panamax instore price is 69c this month. Got some from the Cannington store
They've got Healthy Care Vitamin D3 1000IU 250 capsules for $15.99. Not sure how they compare quality-wise, but pretty much half the price of the Ostelin.
It's the same as comparing Panamax vs Panadol, it's only the brand name you are paying for.
How can you compare this against the competition when it doesn't even specify the IU (International Unit) per capsule?
For example. 2500 IU per Capsule
Hardly worth a neg simply because you couldn't be bothered checking - first link on Google gave the info
Each capsule contains 1,000IU of Vitamin D,
Actually, its;
Each capsule contains 25mcg cholecalciferol (equivalent to Vitamin D3 1000 IU)
I just bought this Ostelin vitamin D for ~$50 at kingsford NSW chemist! :(
You probably purchased the the 250 pack, even then you did pay a little too much.
$13.20 for 180 capsules. $0.07 per capsule.
http://www.no1supplements.com.au/Doctor%27s%20Best,%20Best%2…
= $0.103
But yeah still cheaper.
Chemist Warehouse charge $6.95 for postage.
Can't you just walk in?

15.99 for 250 caps of Vitamin D3 1000IU
Just as I posted in the other thread: It's just olive oil in those things, get yourself a bottle of extra virgin and use it in salads, no need for tablets.
Costco - Kirkland 1000iu 250pk gel caps $8.89. Everyday price. Made in Canada. 'nuff said…
Argh. When will Brisbane get a Costco??!!
really cheap. but can be really damaging your health instead.

Are you talking about the panamax?
I would not recommend this, You should buy Melrose cod liver oil, it has A & D and is natural.
Except for the fact that cod liver oil contains 10 IU of Vitamin A for everyone 1 IU of Vitamin D. So by the time you've hit your 2,000 IU of Vit D, you're at 20,000 IU of Vit A, which is twice the recommended daily limit.
Excess intake of Vit A leads to lots of fun: Wiki Page
Of course I am not suggesting taking cod liver oil for a few days to get some Vit D while you are locked up inside will kill you, but taking it long term as a primary source of Vit D has the potential to lead to health complications.
If anyone is interested in vitamins and complementary medicines, there's a sale on at Lim's Pharmacy for Nature's Way Glucosamine + MSM 180 tablets for ONLY $9.95 (RRP: $43.95). There's also other specials on Fish Oil at the moment too - type in 'Lim's Pharmacy' in the Ozbargain search engine to bring up all the details.
Thinly veiled "You are all nerds and need to go outside" post
Swisse multivitamins are $14.99 as well, if you're into that kind of stuff
