    Absolutely cheapest way?
    1. Enrol in Bachelor of IT at uni
    2. Get Win7 keys from their MSDNAA for FREE
    3. Discontinue course before census so you pay no fees.

Not exactly the quickest or easiest way, but you asked for the CHEAPEST :-)

Walk into any UNI/School/TAFE library go to PC look on the side of a machine and BINGO free license key.

  • any other cheap places to get a Win7 key? i'm wanting to build a new tower.

    thanks

  • anyone? i'm still looking for a key. i'm getting worried because Win8 comes out soon so Win7 may stop being sold. does anyone know about this?

Meh, rubbish. Windows XP was still being sold at a few places and it predates Windows 7 by at least eight years.

No need to worry about it dissapearing, many places will still have unsold copies that they have to offload. They can't exactly toss it out because some people can't tolerate change and will prefer the Windows 7's classic interface. Businesses also rely on W7 because of compatibility issues with bleeding edge os's.

One cheap way to procure Windows 8 is to source a copy of Windows XP or Vista for cheap and then buy the W8 upgrade for $15 (using the exploit explained by Jessboy's post). Ozgameshop should still have a few copies of XP Pro left.

If you have access to your student email, you are officially eligible for student pricing. They have no way of checking whether you are currently enrolled or not — so go ahead and buy. I've been using my TAFE address to purchase stuff at student rates, and I've already graduated from TAFE like 2 years ago.
