[Unobtainable] HBO Max via Argentina (VPN Required): Peso $399 (~A$4.82) Monthly, Peso $3499 (~A$42.23) Annually

Moved to Forum: Original Link

  • Edit #1 - Some users are reporting additional charges/taxes to their cards which are not quoted at checkout. I signed up a while back on a monthly plan and haven’t had any additional charges/taxes. It may be worth trying some other Latin-American countries via VPN for a price comparison.

  • Edit #2 - As reported by another user, it turns out there is now a 65% Tax On Online Purchases in Argentina as per this website reports - https://davescomputertips.com/argentina-imposes-65-tax-on-on…
I have connected to a number of other Latin-American countries via VPN for a price comparison but they all work out approx. $69 AUD for the year.
Apologies if the deal is not as good as I originally thought, it was posted with the best intentions.
    1 month = $7.94 AUD approx.
    12 months = $69.20 AUD approx.

The above gets you compatibility with all devices, use 3 devices at a once, High definition and 4K, Up to 30 downloads, 5 user profiles

1) Use a VPN to connect to an Argentinian server (I used Windscribe with no issues)

2) Open an incognito browser window.

3) If page is displayed in Spanish, change language to English at the bottom of the page next to the following text :

Política de Privacidad - Términos de Uso - Información - **Español (Latinoamericano)**

4) Create Account

5) Verify account email

6) Enter payment details, I suggest paying with a card that has no foreign exchange fees - (I used Macquarie Debit with no issues)

7) Enjoy!

Library content will depend on VPN used when watching, I use a smart DNS (DNS4ME) to view USA library, it doesn't matter which region was used to sign up.

Most of the HBO content is on Binge anyway I think, could be wrong though.

    • +9

HBO Max offers 4K streaming, Binge does not, that's probably the biggest selling point of this deal to many.

      • +2

I hate that they neuter their services to keep Foxtel.

        • +2

it's why i cancelled. It's not a business practice anyone could support.

          • +5

@Ilikecars: It's a business practice that successive conservative governments have supported, endorsed and encouraged.

But yes.. it's not business practice anyone should rationally get behind.

            • @ArjaytheGuy: They don't need your business.
Uncle Rupert have got ScoMo & Frydo
To shake down Google, FaceBook, etc to pay him along with some pocket change from us taxpayers.

    • +13

Yes, but it's Binge… aka Streamotion aka Foxtel aka News Corp aka Murdoch.

Hard pass. I'd rather pay for HBO Max at full price than give Murdoch a single cent.

    • +1

HBO Max has so much more content than Binge and if you set the region to the US, sometimes Warner/DC movies are launched in 4k on streaming at the same time they are released on cinemas.

      • Binge also converts everything to 25fps

  • +5

You would need a VPN running while watching right?

    • +1

Yes or a smart DNS service.

      • Set to US or Argentina?

        • +2

I set it to US, just use Argentine to sign up as it's cheaper.

          • @Chippy47: Hi, is it ok for NordVPN to use? Thanks

            • +2

@zozuc: I can't verify as I don't have Nord. Click the link and it will show you immediately if you are geo blocked or VPN detected.

      • Can anyone confirm a smart dns/vpn that works with this and is confirmed? sick of using VPNs that dont work.

        • +2

          VPN - Windscribe, Smart DNS - DNS4Me

        • I'm using Surfshark and it works perfectly if viewing using the HBO app. The HBO website is a PITA. It doesn't work. All sorts of random issues.

I have the HBO app running on Google TV. HBO is on the Whitelist so it and a few others are redirected via the VPN. The rest of the apps bypass the VPN.

Viewing performance via Surfshark is perfect. No issues with lag or lowered resolution. The HBO app is pretty darn sluggish tho. Seems like it's an HBO thing.

    • Should get this added to OP.

  • Can anyone comment what to watch on HBO? Only know GOT which is good and I finished watching.

Anyone successfully done this with Getflix DNS and the Getflix "Lifetime" Subscription?

    • Yes I have previously done so with the "lifetime" Getflix fine.
However I haven't for a few months so YRMV.

Edit. The reason I stopped is I just use Syncler+ with Real Debrid now

      • I got real debrid, what benefit does Syncler+ have as apposed to Jellyfin

        • I'm not familiar with Jellyfin so can't comment

  • How do I watch it on AppleTV? Anyone can help?

    • +1

Using a smart DNS, you will also need to create an Apple ID based in the US then you can download the HBO Max app. I use DNS4Me.net they have loads of setup guides on there - https://dns4me.net/Guides/

      • Are DNS4ME pretty reliable with the USA Netflix? Seem like many services struggle for it to keep working. They're website doesn't really even metion Neflix

        • +1

The website is pretty basic but I find their service very good in general. It’s 2 Aussie guys that run it and they’re pretty active on WP - https://forums.whirlpool.net.au/thread/9xl16jy9

I still think you can get a weeks free trial so see what you think.

You can use promo code LOVEWP for 10% off if you are gonna sign up.

          • @Chippy47: Nice, will give a go (when my 25 day+ NBN outage ends)

      1. Download an app like Sudo on iPhone to get a US virtual number. Then create US Apple ID using same number.

      2. Login on Apple TV as a secondary account using above Apple ID.

      3. Download HBO Max app using that ID.

      4. Set up DNS on Apple TV

      5. Grab popcorn

      • Also, you can setup within the iTunes app on Windows 10 and you don't need to a payment method and you can use your own personal number just set your address to US.

      • One more question. Can we set up DNS on AppleTV itself ?

        • +2

          Yes.

Just go to settings > network > your wifi name > change DNS to manual > enter your DNS details

      • What happens if i skip step 5

        Grab popcorn

        • Your Apple tv will get cursed and nothing will ever load.

          • @Pricebeat: And then you die

            • @jackary: Not if you mutter the immortal name… Tim Apple. Then you shall be saved.

  • +3

Alot of effort, you can just download all the shows for free.

I mean little difference, as everyone's trying to work the system in some way 🤣

    • You wouldn't download a car.

      Oh wait. I would.

Though in all seriousness. These companies are making it awfully hard. Not to mention annoying. That some people are resorting to just pirating it all.

      • People have been pirating for many years, these apps just make it easier to use.

Saying that, alot don't know how to pirate.

    • -2

Downloading takes as much or more time, every time. This will be set and forget

      • +2

Except for the fact that downloading is free, aka the OzBargain Holy Grail. Plus downloading takes very little time these days. Even on FTTC it's not much of an issue.

        Username doesn't check out.

        • -1

Except you look for things to download after work, then take some time to download. Then when you are done and start watching after plugging in all your devices, you decide you don’t like it. Time to repeat everything again.

          • @Pricebeat: I'm on 50/20 (but realistically 25mbps normal), and can download 4.5gb in 5-10 minutes. Anyone with decent broadband would smash that, so time really isn't a big deal.

          • +1

@Pricebeat: You dont look for stuff to download when you want to watch it. You download for later to watch.

          • +3

@Pricebeat: These streaming platforms offer an unparalleled convenience factor which is why I'm contemplating getting this. At ~$40 it's pretty good value to be able to open an app and see if there's anything you want to chill out to. Plus it also lets you play something you may not have thought of. That's the issue with downloading versus streaming..downloading, you know what you are looking for. I think I'm just convincing myself to buy this subscription tbh lol

            • @Ilikecars: I have like heck load of them from all different countries and it takes maybe 5 minutes for me to change my mind and decide to watch something else. If I did that with downloading, I would end up procrastinating and not watching anything

              • @Pricebeat:

Except you look for things to download after work

                An anecdotal viewpoint at best.

then take some time to download

Considering NBN is how most are connected these days, "time" is really not an issue. I can download a full movie in the time it takes me to make a coffee or some popcorn.

Then when you are done and start watching after plugging in all your devices

What are "all" these devices you speak of? It's either a flash drive, hard drive or possibly being streamed directly to your TV via Plex (or something similar).

you decide you don’t like it

Most people who download are likely doing so with the intent to watch something specifically.

Of all the things you've just mentioned in defence of a subscription, this one takes the cake:

you decide you don’t like it

So, you've just paid for a subscription for content that you don't like… Happy days, huh?

it takes maybe 5 minutes for me to change my mind and decide to watch something else. If I did that with downloading, I would end up procrastinating and not watching anything

Not everyone is as frequently fickle as you appear to be.

                • @KangaDrew:

In the meantime I can checkout a few shows and if I already know what I want to watch, then I am already a few minutes into watching it. Not worrying about whether the quality, subtitles or the audio would match.

What are "all" these devices you speak of? It's either a flash drive, hard drive or possibly being streamed directly to your TV via Plex (or something similar).

Those are the devices that I am talking about.

Most people who download are likely doing so with the intent to watch something specifically.

Having intent to watch something and actually liking it to finish it all are two different things.

So, you've just paid for a subscription for content that you don't like… Happy days, huh?

I didn’t say I don’t like every single show on something that I paid. Please feel free to remind if I did.

Not everyone is as frequently fickle as you appear to be.

Not if you are downloading, it would be limiting and time wasting if you choose to do so every five minutes.

                  • -1

@Pricebeat: Again… anecdotal and fickle. There's a reason why people download, but hey, by all means, pay for your "heck load of them from all different countries" if you've got the money for it.

                    • -1

@KangaDrew: I barely pay for any of them. It’s all about working smart not hard. But yeah feel free to keep downloading if that suits you.

            • @Ilikecars: Yes, but add every streaming service and it's alot of money!

          • @Pricebeat: Set it up while at work? Download while at work? Lol

          • +1

@Pricebeat: Yeah that's not how downloading works. If I come across a show I hear is good I just tell my server what show it is and it automatically goes and downloads it all. With NBN it downloads in a matter of minutes. No streaming app or buffering issues, no clunky app interfaces, and it's consistent 4k quality.

      • Downloading is free, this costs you simply for HBO.

Piracy is back! ayeee miii pirates!!! sale the high seas once more!!!

  • I want to get this but I want the HBO Max app on my Nvidia Shield Pro. Anyone know if there's a way of doing it?

    • You can sideload if it doesn show on PlayStore

      • Thanks, got it sideloaded now and works fine. Have a network wide USA region activated and it even gives you 1 free ep to watch of their most popular shows lol. Works well. going to get this deal now

        • Are you using VPN or smart DNS?

  • How do I get the HBO app on my Samsung TV?

Just entered my smart DNS settings in

    • What OS is it on?

      • It's the Samsung OS whatever they call it these days.

        • TIZEN OS

        • I have LG and with TVs sold in Australia I have found that they can only change locations to Oceania and South East Asian countries.

          • @Pricebeat: You need a LG service remote in order to get US apps

            • @vinnychase: Ah ok, I might try getting one to test

              • @Pricebeat: You’ll find instructions on the internet on how to do this. But be careful as there’s a high probability of (profanity) something up.

  • Just got charged 654.30 A pesos instead of 399

  • +1

If someone has to go to all the trouble of using VPNs etc why not just torrent the shows you want to watch for free?
