I've been looking for a fan for my home office so I don't have to turn on the aircon just to get air circulating. I know there's heaps of options, this seemed to suit my needs/space, and is a good price.
I ordered it on Tuesday afternoon and it's shipped this morning via AusPost.

RRP is $259, Amazon has them for $189/199 depending on colour.

If you enjoy loud fans, you'll love this

    • Yep, recommend to stick this well outside of the room, will be powerful enough to still circulate air around the room even when it's outside of it. Fantastic fan. I used it to push air down a corridor and it was incredible at it.

I find on level 1 or 2 it isn't very loud, and still works very effectively to get my aircon down a hallway to my study.

    • Non DC variant so it'll be loud. I've got the 663DC and it's still noisy. Silent at the lower speeds though

      • According to the Vornado website, the 633DC is 30dB in low speed and 58dB in high speed whereas the 660 is 35dB in low speed and 54dB in high speed. So yes, they are pretty much the same in terms of noise level.

The Decibel system is logarithmic; 10db more means a 10x louder sound. So an extra 5db is substantial.

    • I have this and don't consider it loud. Though previously I've used $30 Kmart fans. On low it's almost silent and still has a strong air flow.

    • Pushes more air on its lowest setting than a Kmart fan does on its highest setting though and it definitely isn't as loud as a Kmart fan on full.

I have this fan to circulate air in my living room because air flow here is so bad… I find on the lowest or second lowest setting, I can barely hear it over the hum of my computer and ambient noise. On full blast, the air flow is quite strong but the fan is insanely loud. Couldn't live without it… it makes the room cooler and does seem to move air around quite decently.

    • How much space (m2) can the lowest/second lowest setting provide for? Is it better to have the 660 at lower setting, vs. the smaller fans at higher setting?

      • +2

from what I read, a bigger fan on a lower setting means the motor works less and is therefore not as noisy as a smaller fan on higher settings.
This is the reason I went for this big one over a smaller one, and hopefully the low(er) settings will be sufficient for my needs.

      • CFM for lowest setting is stated to be 257 if that can help you with your calculations.

I often have mine on full blast in my PC room. It is super loud but I actually don't mind it. You kind of filter the sound out after a while.

    Can these be daisy-chained?

      I don't get it.

  • Just in time for winter! 😃

    • Alternatively you could wait for jacked prices in summer? ;-)

    • still got a couple of weeks at least of 28-32deg C days in Perth…

      • Lucky you. It's worse than London on the East coast with the wet and gloomy weather!

They're room circulators. Would probably help move warm air from the ceiling and towards where you want it.

I use this with my bike on the smart trainer. Highly recommend it for that.

    • Simulating a headwind?

      • I wouldn't say simulating a headwind so much. I put mine on the floor angled up than full on blowing in my face. Because you're stationary on a trainer you tend to pool sweat more from the lack of breeze. I've had this vornado for years now and find because it circulates the air it's more appealing than just having a regular fan blowing full bore in my face.

Also good on higher settings to both cool a room and generate some white noise. We leave it on while our baby is sleeping and it helps to drown out any noises from outside the room.

Currently $156 with Good Guys Commercial if you have access. Last lowest price at Amazon was $159 during EOFY 2021.

    • Just got one from them today paid $160. Pretty happy with the fan it air the living room much better than a regular pedestal fan that focus on a small area. No noisy at all compared to Kmart's pedestal (both plastic and chrome) and bladeless fans. I guess you pay what you get.

  • Good for circulating air and pushing air around. If you're hot and just want a fan to cool down, get a metal blade one from your chosen retailer. Thanks.

  • This is a great fan, I bought one a few years back. It is noisy as others have said, but it's only objectionable on the highest two settings. Definitely works well on warm or humid nights to circulate air in the bedroom, and the white noise helps me sleep.

I got sick of having to get up and walk over to press the buttons on the unit to change it, so I hacked up a custom PCB with an ESP32 and ESPHome so I can control it remotely.

  • Anyone been able to compare this to a high velocity fan. I have a high velocity fan and it moves a fair bit of air around the room

I have a 120W "industrial" fan (IF) similar to the Bunnings 450mm Dynabreeze. Recently got a 633DC @ 225. I believe, both the 633 and 660 draw Much less power @ maximum setting, is much lighter & compact, quieter and move a mega volume of air - more air then the IF?.. not sure. But the IF focuses the air onto a set area whilst the vornados move air in the different way, leading to a more pleasant cooling throughout the room. This is possibly due to their propeller and grill design. I use the vornado more now, coz the metal grill on the IF is prone to wear/rust and if you try to carry it, the metal grill might break.. this risk hurting your fingers, worse if you were to carry it whilst its running. The vornado however, has a smaller grill, so if you had slim fingers, no risk of slicing finger. But at 139, the Dynabreeze, maintained well, is something to consider as a cheaper alternative. I think i did the calcs, we would run the vornado to ventilate a certain area of the property for 24 hours all throughout winter, and the vornado presented a better value over the long run. I think if youre Costco team, and looking for a quality fan. This is a good buy.

  • don't be duped by the standard version of Vornado and the 'energy smart' version which is 'Up To 80% More Energy-Efficient' with 99 speeds and 5 year replacement warranty and uses DC brushless inverter motor.
