I was browsing the dell ebay store last night and to my amazement, they had intel 12th gen laptops up on their store for some amazing prices!

The Inspiron 16 2-in-1 7620 looks like the perfect laptop in my books as it has:

  • 12th gen intel processor
  • 300 nits screen
  • Massive 87wh battery
  • 16:10 screen
  • Pen support

Full specs:

Processor: 12th Gen Intel® Core™ i7-1260P (18 MB cache, 12 cores, 16 threads, up to 4.70 GHz Turbo)
Operating System: Windows 11 Home (64bit) English
Video Card: Intel® Iris® Xe Graphics
Memory: 16 GB, 2 x 8 GB, DDR4, 3200 MHz
Hard Drive: 512 GB, M.2, PCIe NVMe, SSD
Display: 16", FHD+ 1920x1200, 60Hz, Touch, Wide Viewing Angle, 300 nit, ComfortView Plus

Keyboard: Titan Gray English International Backlit Keyboard with Fingerprint Reader
Wireless: Intel® Wi-Fi 6E (6GHz) AX211 2x2 Bluetooth 5.2 Wireless Card
AC Adapter: 65 Watt Type-C EPEAT Adapter
Battery: 6 Cell, 87 Wh, integrated

There are also some other configurations and 12th gen laptops available:

https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/334382410516?hash=item4ddabeab14… - $1299
https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/325117234304?hash=item4bb27f4c80… - $1299
https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/334382402437?hash=item4ddabe8b85… - $1899

I have no clue how much better the new cpus will be, but from earlier reviews of the 1260P, it looks like they are a big step up from 11th gen. I'm also assuming the the efficiency cores combined with a massive 87wh battery will result in crazy good battery life.

Also it looks like they ship late April and will arrive in early May.

I didn't even know the Inspiron 16 had been announced with 12th gen yet! Good find! I'm still holding out for an updated XPS 13 though

    • Decent prices! It's a shame the igpu is still the same as 2020 tho

      • Yes. I don't mind but i am not sure of the astetics

      • According to this video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5ghdPOYYF8g&ab_channel=Andre…), it looks like there is around a 25-30% increase in integrated gpu performance if benchmarks are anything to go off of.

        • +3

Do note the Lenovo uses 5200MHz DDR5 while this Dell uses much slower 3200MHz DDR4.

Faster RAM has a significant impact on iGPU performance, I don't think you will see the same results here

          • @brosk1s: Hmmm you make a very good point.

          • @brosk1s: Lenovo Yoga 9i 14"
Los good. But are they restricted on the power?

        • +2

I also noticed from the review you posted that the single core performance of the i7-1260p is lower vs the i7-1185G7 in a similar Yoga chassis. So I assume that the 4 performance cores of the i7 1260p are thermally constrained at TDP of 28W, and need a higher TDP to perform. Based on initial previews from Linus etc. they need about 50W TDP and above. Intel specs say up to 64W TDP. Unfortunately the reviewer in the link you posted also does not provide any battery life tests so I can't tell how efficient 12th gen mobile is vs 11th gen mobile.

    • yeah me too.. just waiting for the XPS update

  • Does this have thunderbolt?
    How much does it Weight?

    • +8

all good questions. I have raised a support ticket with Dell.

    • +6

Listing says it has 2x Thunderbolt 4 ports, and weight starts at 2.06 kg.

      • +2

2x Thunderbolt ports seems to be becoming commonplace on these 12th gen Inspirons. Intel may be enforcing the Evo reference spec more rigorously this gen.

Although having only HDMI 1.4 seems like product segmentation.

  • +1

it's 500 above my budget, not sure this one worth the money? Just want a big enough screen like 15,16" good display, occasionally play some games like world of tank blitz and something like photoshop and chief architect

  • I7 has 8 cores only.

    • +1

It is clearly stated that the i7 1260p has 4 P cores and 8 E cores

      • +2

        Sorry you are right.

    • +1

      12 cores, 16 threads.

4 performance cores with hyperthreading plus 8 efficiency cores

  • It's soooo big

    • +8

      that's what Jada said

  • +1

Good to see 12th gen P series chips at a reasonable price. These look like a direct follow-up to the 11th gen U series with 4 performance cores and 8 efficiency cores.

I'd be interested to see the performance of Intel's full line-up of U CPUs and DG2 GPUs in the near future.

The relentless advance of technology is stunningly mind boggling — I never, ever thought I would see a 162-in-1 laptop. But here it is. Truly inspirontional!

Although I am tempted to hold out for the rumoured 24-inch MacBook Pro Max. It will be the thinnest 24-inch laptop ever! Sure, it’s only a 1-in-1 laptop, but I’m a 1-dimensional user

    • +1

Dell have been making a 17" 2-in-1 for a while. Check out the LG Gram 16 2-in-1 at 1.45kg!

    • +1

I never, ever thought I would see a 162-in-1 laptop

I don't think any of us did!

  • Does anyone know if there's software that disables the keyboard when in tablet/folded mode?
Comparing it to the MS Studio Laptop which covers the keyboard when in tablet/folded/writing mode.

    • +2

I thought Windows already did that!

      • No idea, was hoping someone who's got something similar can confirm how it all works :\

        • +2

Yes the keyboard is disabled in 'tablet mode'. Windows automatically recognises as you are flipping it around and switches to tablet mode.

  • Whats the diff between the main one and the bottom link one besides the disk? Is it just one has greater resolution screen? (Do they both have OLED though?)

    • +1

The more expensive one has a higher res, brighter oled screen as well as a dedicated mx550 gpu.

      • For those interested in gaming, it seems that MX550 provides around the same performance as the Geforce 1050 Ti Mobile.

      • 300 nits = mediocre brightness

  • +1

A solid dell deal NOT by @dealbot … what is the world coming to??

  • How much better is the 12gen over the 11gen?

This 2in 1 laptop with touchscreen is pretty nice

But for pure processing power for the same price I'm pretty impressed by this

Bought OLED version! Havent done any research but my wifes surface pro 4 just died yesterday - hope its good.

    • +1

Same or we can create a complaint group together lol

    • When you receive it, may you please share your thoughts?

      e.g.

      • keyboard trackpad experience/feel (is the keyboard mushy, low/high key travel, trackpad sensititivy)
      • configuration (FHD+ or UHD+, i7 or i5)
      • screen (colour, is it bright enough at 300/400 nits)
      • battery life (does the 87Wh battery last your average day)
      • build quality (any flex on the keyboard, ports, physical buttons/switches)
      • primary use case for the device (casual/family laptop, WFH, kids, streaming etc)
      • and any other details/feedback you have in mind

      Thanks in advance.

The reason I ask is because I may consider picking up one of these to replace my ageing Surface Pro 4 (m3, 4GB RAM, 128GB SSD).

      • +2

        Just received ours today.
Got the UHD OLED version. The screen is amazing but can get a lot of glare.
Build quality seems good - the dark green is not bad.
Keyboard is ok but I like Lenovo keys better
Dunno about battery - we will have it on charge all the time anyway.
Only disappointment is the audio…..it is SHOCKINGLY BAD! I dont know if it is faulty because it keeps having popping sounds. Trying to fix it now with drivers etc.
But we played music from this and the Lenovo X1 and it is night and day. Hoping it is faulty…..

        • Thank you for your feedback and demo comparing it with your Lenovo X1 Yoga. Much appreciated!

I hope you're able to fix the audio popping sound/issue. If you do, please feel free to share your solution of the KB/forum post with the solution/workaround.

        • hey mate, any luck with fixing the issue?

          • @viewfinder: Dell are sending a guy out to take a look. Hopefully Tuesday.

            • @auswill: Thanks for sharing.

I was really hoping a software/driver update was sufficient to fix it up. Sorry to hear that your new laptop needs to wait for a Dell support technician to physically inspect and (hopefully) resolve the issue.

Let us know how you go. Good luck!

              • @viewfinder: Update - the guy never came because they were still waiting for replacement parts. So I requested a full replacement instead - this was 2 days ago. Apparently it has been built already and shipped today which is pretty good because they haven't even picked up the faulty one yet. Hoping the sound is a lot better but not counting on it - as long as that annoying clicking/popping is gone I guess its acceptable.

                • @auswill: Appreciate the update. I hope the replacement is good. Let us know how you go.

                  • +3

@viewfinder: Just received the replacement and the sound is excellent!! So last 1 was definitely faulty. Now the pain of setting it all up again.

                    • @auswill: Thank you for the update. Glad to hear the replacement is working well. Your feedback and replacement/support expereince gives me confidence to pick one up of these when Dell eBay has 20% again.

If you have any further feedback, please feel free to share.

                      Cheers!

  • Does anyone know if they are available to ship immediately?

    • These are some of the first 12th gen non H series laptops. On dells official website, they say they will ship late April and this is most likely because this is when stock arrives in Australia.

  • Not too bad of a price, but the FHD resolution on a 16" laptop kinda ruins it.

Would be much better if this was QHD.

    • +2

Can our eyes spot the difference btw the 2 on a 16" at normal viewing distance? Genuine question.

    • +2

I personally think that QHD on this kind of form factor is a waste as it makes the unit cost more, while also draining more battery. Even at this screen size, I feel that FHD will be perfect for the majority of people.

    • Agree, because desktop real estate is very important.

    • The $1899 one has a higher res oled display.

How it rates against 15.6” asus vivobook I don’t know.
      https://www.harveynorman.com.au/asus-vivobook-pro-15-6-inch-…

  • We have a 15" XPS 9500 with a QHD screen - it is an eye-saver for reading small text articles and word processing.

  • Upgradable RAM on these?

    • I was going to ask this

  • No pen for these?

    • Just a pen 15 for those equipped.

  • +1

Anyone who received this have any comments on the speakers and screen?
