    No soup for you.

So that is 2 to 3 dollars per litre? For boiled up scraps? They must be kidding.

Any real aussie bargainer makes his own.
get a 10l pot, throw in that chicken carcass, left overs and beef bones. Add some carrot, celery, whatever.
Simmer overnight, strain and freeze portions. And it can be a lot more concentrated than the watery shop stuff.
    And you made it yourself.

I could also grow my own veges, rear chooks and all that. But i choose to go to a supermarket. Nothing against your suggestion, but hey i like the convenience

true, but stock? it's all machine made, may as well just buy powdered stock instead of paying for water?

      • Keeping chooks for fresh eggs is not such a bad idea, if you have space, but stock is dead easy.
Takes very little time if you do it while cooking other things.
Veggies can be a lot of work for limited return - but a herb garden is great.

My Dad had a cow in the back yard for milk when he was a kid :-) And no, he did not live on a farm.

because it would cost you more in electricity/gas to boil it up!
I don't have any chook carcasses lying around, Can i substitute the neighbours cat who keep digging up my garden?

      • Cat makes excellent stock. Be sure to gut it first.

IMO Campbells stock tastes pretty bad too, ruins good home cooking. If I'm looking for convenience I use Massel ultracubes, just add my own water instead of buying Campbells.

Someone …. I think it was Choice(? ) did tests on these liquid stocks and found they were no more than the liquid version of stock cubes - not a hint of 'real' stock in there. Cubes are far better value.
