So i want to grab a Ryzen 7 5700X when it comes out next month at $299USD +GST MSRP …I'm wondering if the price will be lower then this when its released or should i not risk it and jump into Zen3 now with the 5800X

I do like/want the lower TDP on the 5700X

    • +6

It will launch here at about $440, at best it's a few dollars less. I'd get this today.

EDIT: you can set a nice undervolt in precision boost overdrive which will manage the TDP conversation. The advertised 65w isn't true 65w, AMD has been playign funny buggers with their TDP's for some time. In terms of power you're looking at about 110w if memory serves.

      • Looking at the latest CPU review of an intel 12400 the Ryzen 5600X is at 149w MAX VS the Ryzen 5800X 225W MAX …Even a 3700X is only 172w

        07:18 - Blender Open Data, Power https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2J0iP520WoY&t=438s

I think i will play it safe and wait for the 5700X.. dont want that kinda power draw from my CPU

        • +1

If you turn off auto overclock and limit power to what ever wattage you desire it'll bring that down. My 3600 can go over 120w but I limit to 65w.power meter can concur it works

        • Unless you keep stock settings on your CPU & running CPU intensive programs that will 100% utilise all cores on your cpu, your CPU wont be drawing that much power 24/7. With alderlake its best to undervolt and change turbo speeds as out of the box its very power inefficient. I dont know much about ryzen so I cant comment about that.

My undervolted 12700k draws 10-25w during low utilisation while streaming 1080p video + heaps of office programs open + server stuff like plex. During gaming its like 50-80 watts. On synthetic benchmarks like cinebench I hit 130-160watts max power draw and it gives me the same performance as stock 200+ watt power draw.

This has some gaming focused power consumption comparison charts between all the cpus: https://www.igorslab.de/en/intel-core-i9-12900kf-core-i7-127…

    • So i want to grab a Ryzen 7 5700X when it comes out next month at $299USD +GST MSRP

5700X is practically DOA at that price. At that MSRP, you'd be looking at high 400's AUD for the 5700X when the 5800X can be had for less. The 5700X would have to be under $400 for it to be even remotely competitive.

Let's not forget that the 12600K / KF can be had for under $400 as well, which is better than the 5800X in a lot of applications too.

      • Thats the listed pricing AMD has gone with.. i also think its still too much and should be cheaper… if they sit in stores though not moving I'm sure we will see sales for the 5700X and 5600 (non X) start to poping up.. Thats when i'll jump in…

        • How much are you looking to pay for a 5700X?

          • @p1 ama: i think a fair price would be around $350AUD Zen4 comes out very soon

            • @vid_ghost: Doubt you'll get it for $350. I'd just grab this if I was in your position.

Brings the MSI GeForce RTX 3080 VENTUS 3X PLUS 10G LHR GDDR6 Graphics Card down to $1223.10
Difficult to go for when a 12GB 3080 has been as low as $1249

  • +3

AMD CPU prices are about 5% up on previous sale prices so unless you need a quick replacement, wait until Easter

  • +1

Do you need to enter a code or something? Those discounted prices aren't appearing when I visit…

Edit: Hey wait, they are when opening the cart. Awesome!

  • Any comments for this bundle?

The 5800X is faster and cheaper VS the i5-12600KF even in gaming the 5800X its faster

      $399.00 Intel Core i5-12600KF
      $259.00 Gigabyte Z690M Aorus Elite

Lowest price for both on staticice = $658
So that deal is good and if you get an extra 10% off its even better

Ryzen 7 5800X above + $149.00 (from another store) MSI AM4 MicroATX MAG B550M MORTAR Motherboard works out to $578.3 as an alternative option and you get 8 fast cores VS only 6 fast cores on the intel 12600KF

Check out this review of the 12600K VS the 5800X https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LzhwVLUVork
      hardware unboxed

The 12600K completes in performance with the RX5600X ~ NOT the 5800X

      • +1

12600K competes in performance with 5800X, better than it some times. 5600X is lower in performance.

        • +1

The 12600K is faster then a 5600X but its selling for the same price as a 5800X when you add a good QTY motherboard for both CPU's

The 5800X is still the better CPU but the 12600K is not far behind. Either CPU is good

          • @vid_ghost: Did you edit your earlier post telling me 12600K performs similar to 5600X, and slower than 5800X? And I said Hardware Unboxed is lying?
That video says gaming performance don't differ much between 12600K, 5600X and 5800X. In face older gen Intel CPUs or higher tier CPUs (5900X and 12700K), don't differ much in gaming performance too. GPU is the more important factor.
In other CPU benchmarks, Steven often commented 12600K smashes the 5600X, and the 12600K is equal or sometimes beat 5800K. Which is exactly what I have said in my earlier post.
Of course we are only comparing CPUs here, not including motherboards as we all know the prices of Alder Lake motherboards are still very expensive.

This is a completely wrong take.

The 12600K/KF is faster than the 5800X in most applications. The 5800X may have 33% more cores, but the faster single-threaded performance of the 12600K/KF (which is around 33% higher) negates a lot of the increase in cores.

Even in synthetics, e.g. Cinebench, which prefers higher core counts, the 12600K is faster (around 18,000 vs. 16,000 for 5800X). Obviously in gaming, the 12600K is faster.

        https://www.techpowerup.com/review/intel-core-i5-12600k-alde…

It doesn't mean the 5800X is a bad chip, but the 12600K is just better. The 5600X is obviously nowhere near the 12600K. Personally, I would not purchase a 5800X at over $400 unless you have an existing B550 / X570 motherboard you can slot it directly into.

FWIW, I'm on neither Intel nor AMD's side, I upgrade every cycle, owned an i7 860, 2600K, 3770K, 4770K, 6700K, 1700X, 2700, 3900X, 5950X, so I've always been fair on what I think is the best. My next upgrade will probably be a 12900K.

Sorry i wouldn't trust Techpowerup's reputation VS hardware unboxed thats been blacklisted so many times from so many companies now for exposing poor performance and telling it as it is…hardware unboxed shows the 5800X being a FASTER gaming CPU

Tech power up is a paid shill… never use them - Gamers Nexus video on it here.. and they also show the 5800X as being better in gaming..

The only issue with SE that if you got issues with your purchase, as in RMA-ing, it is very hassle, as the support only limited to emails only. Try to call them, it will just redirect with the auto-greeting citing COVID bla bla, we working from home.

    • +3

Have just been through an extremely painful process with them, all I have to say is good luck if your item is outside of their DOA policy.

  • Only if SE also do good prebuilt deals like TF or BPC will be wonderful too, their parts prices are excellent!

  • Thanks, genuine 10% off special. I bought a MSI Gaming X RTX 3060 Ti, final price $756 delivered.

At $829 RRP it was already lower than the other retailers, priced upto $879.

  • It appears that the SE website is not only giving you the 10% discount off your total price for any purchases, but also free shipping. Has anyone else noticed this?

I've tried a few items now and the shipping cost is applied to the item and then under the "Discounts Applied" the shipping cost is listed there as well. I've tried it on a mouse and a monitor.

For example the Logitech MX Anywhere 3 mouse is listed for $89 and shipping comes up as $15.10. The total price though comes to $80.10???
