Filtering out eBay Bait and Switch Multiple Item Listings

Ebay the sort by price and shipping does not work because most sellers advertise a different item for a cheaper price to get to the top of the list when filtering by price and shipping

Is there a workaround for this ?

I tried the instructions below but don't know how to get it to work

Any advice

    Honestly: just don't use eBay anymore. It's full of marked up Aliexpress junk and there's no escape.

    Nothing of real value on there anyway. What used to be a way to get rid of excess items and collectables and granny's Hummel figurines is now just Chinese mass produced junk spam. It's a shame, but they don't care since it generates revenue for the platform.

    So many items are dropshipped even though says located in Australia. Deliveries can take forever, if they even arrive, and anything that fails after 30 days is difficult to get warranty coverage for or get responses from random sellers etc etc etc.

    Gumtree has turned this way too. Full of companies selling overpriced cables and other junk.

    Amazon appears to be heading that way too unfortunately. You can tell by the spam posts on here…

      Amazon has been even worse for this IMO. At least eBay has some partnerships with established retailers. Amazon just has a terrible search engine and combined results so you never know if the description is accurate or not.

    • amazon is already like that. for certain item searches, the entire first page of results is filled by "sponsored" (junk) items, sometimes even the second page too.

    • Ive had some pretty good success with buying computer parts cheaper than anywhere else through eBay, YMMV.

      Ebay plus has also been good to me but I do buy all the little cases/plastic stuff on AliExpress.

    As you point out, this effectively breaks ebay for buying many things.
    I have no idea why ebay has allowed this to continue for years now, but presumably they want to drive customers away.
    Idiots.

    Multiple listings are the worst. You shouldn't be able to list a $900 PS5 with a $5 Helly Kitty keychain and still have it show up as $5 when you search for a PS5.

      Would end in a day if they made the highest price display instead of the lowest price

    • I think the PS5 example above would be better than most of them. At least you can filter out all results under $500 or so. But when buying screen protectors or cases and other low value purchases there are legit sellers in the $1-5 range so it is impossible to filter out the lying ones

    • The issue is that eBay (including other sites like Amazon) does not welcome the low to high listing order. If you just select the Best Match, it does not show the $5 item first. If a business always sells cheapies, it stops making profit and closes down. The platform takes less commission by recommending cheapies as well.

  • Those damn $1 do not buy items

    My go-to rule is to sort Price + Postage, then immediately scroll down to anything with an actual listed price rather than a price range.

    Anything that is likely to be imported/unreturnable if it fails I'll use Aliexpress, but for most other things then eBay is my preferred choice. By comparison, Amazon's search function is a steaming pile of RESULTS NOT FOUND

    Interesting fix in that link. I've updated it so that it works with the current version of ebay.au

    $('.DEFAULT').parent().parent().parent().parent().parent().parent().remove()

      Thank you for fixing the code.

      Anything similar for AliExpress?
      I find that cheaper deals are buried and need to spend time to discover them

      Credit to Pathfinder (OP) and skid for fixing the code:
      1. On your browser with ebay running, right click and select "Inspect"
      2. Select the "console" tab in the new window that opens. Should be the second tab from the left.
      3. Copy and paste the script below and press enter.
      $('.DEFAULT').parent().parent().parent().parent().parent().parent().remove()
      Need to repeat the step for each search and filter out.

        Nothing that I can see for AliExpress. There is a script that sort of works, Aliexpress Plus

    You have to use the filters and then sort further through what the product usually sells at.
    If it's usually $6 obviously the bait and switch will be like $1-3
