Yes, another M4 post. This seems to be the best bargain I can find on the 128 since Amazon doesn't ship that model to Oz. Can anyone find it cheaper?

It's $181.63 delivered from PLE shipped to VIC.

  • Is it worth the $25 extra to buy from a store in Australia? The 256gb offer from Amazon (http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/68869) is still tempting but I don't know if I can justify the extra space.

I'll be dual booting OSX and Windows (only for games). Any thoughts on size of the drives?

    • I have a 120gb one running Win7, program files and symlinks to a few steam games. Currently have about 45GB free. Given that the capacity of this isn't recommended to exceed 80%, 120gb might be a little small, or you will need to manage your space quite closely.

      • "Given that the capacity of this isn't recommended to exceed 80%"

What? Where? I always max me drives!

        • +1

Aaaaarrrggghh, I always max me drives too matey! ;)

        • Just read about it some more, its an OCZ recommendation for their drives. Also looks to be for sandforce controllers only, which wasn't what I was initially lead to believe.

    • 120 would just disappear with a dual boot. Honestly I'd recommend the extra.

Don't forget to get Steammover (or learn to use symlinks)

  • Side note, but what do people think of hybrid drives? i.e.

    • I had the original of that drive in my old MBP. I definitely noticed a speed increase but from what I've seen from my friend's computers with SSDs installed there's really no comparison in speed. The SSD is super fast but the problem being that you need to reference to all your files (media files and such) on a larger storage hard drive.

  • Why a bargain? A local stock Intel 330 120gb is the same price, WITHOUT delivery fee!
even 330 have 3yrs warranty compare with 5yrs 520, it still solid drive with decent speed, plus local warranty.

    • Good point. When price is similar I'd get local and Intel.

    • Solid drive you say.. you realise they are using the Sandforce Controller now.. not so solid IMO.

      • So far there have been no reports of issues with the 520 or 330 due to Sandforce controller, so I don't think there's a reason to judge it due to that.

      • Both Intel and Crucial are trending towards Sandforce, so it must have some merits. I've begun to think SF got a bad name mainly because its customers used inferior NANDs.

        • remind you that the firmware in intel drive use intel's cookbook not the original Sandforce in crucial.
according to Anandtech, Intel has test it for a year. I buy that idea so I buy the Intel, in fact, even the Corsair F3 I have been use about 10 units, so far for half year still no issue.

      • Yes the Intel's use the Sandforce Controller.
No they don't share any of the issues as with other companies, they spent a lot of time programming the drivers and software for the 520 series, and have less than a 0.1% failure rate.

Plus the 5-year warranty, I don't understand why people don't get them more often, the speed difference (unless you go super high end is around 3,000 IOPS to 5,000 IOPS).

    • You need to compare the M4 with the Intel 520 which has the same controller.

  • Just bought one. I hope they're right about shipping when it says 4-6 days
