  • It's an excellent version on the Switch, my son and I both have a copy so we can play local multiplayer.

    22 bucks is a steal.

how do you play ? i am a novice and 7yo who plays this on ipad has no clue …

      • There's a billion videos on YouTube to watch to learn how to play. My 8 year old has been playing it for a while so it must be pretty easy to learn.

        • Friend's 4 year old plays on PC. His brother started around the same age. Presumably they got some help early on, but they play it pretty independently now.

      • "How do you play" is a pretty broad question when it comes to minecraft.
The basics are, you gather materials to craft items and a base.
This guide covers the basics https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BEH_fMgRNrc
Obviously minecraft has changed since then but the core of it is the same

Load in and start mining! My son taught me how to play and it's quite a deep game, probably hence the enduring appeal.

First tips for survival would be:

To set yourself up for mining:

        1. Build a crafting table so that you can build tools
        2. Paw away at a tree until you have enough wood to build a wood pickaxe
        3. Use that pickaxe to mine stone and build a stone pickaxe
        4. Use that stone pickaxe to mine iron ore. Build a furnace (using stone) and find a fuel source (chop down wood or mine coal) and use that iron to make iron tools and weapons

        Set yourself up for shelter:

        1. Build a basic shelter out of stone, at least 3 x 3 size
        2. Build a bed so that you can skip night (kill 3 sheep and make some wood planks)
        3. Build a chest to put things in (wood planks, made from chopped down wood).

You probably want to do shelter somewhere around number 3 in the first section i did.

        Explore!

Exploring will be much easier if you use the map you start with, or make a lot of lights near your base so it's easily visible.

But honestly, the game is so good because you can play literally however you want. You don't even have to play survival, just craft if you want.

    Anyone recommend Rayman?

    • +3

probably one of the top 5 2d side scrolling platformers ever….amazing

      • 2 Qs

Is Rayman an ok/good/great local coop?

I see its "players 1-4 (single system), 2 (local wireless), 1 (online).
        We have 4 controllers.
As I read it, only 2 local coop players but what does 'single system' refer to?

        • +1

you can play 1-4 payers on one console, one system, with 4 controller.
2 local wireless is two consoles.
The coop is awesome (it even has some games you can play within it kinda like soccer)

        • +1

very good local coop - it's old school same screen couch coop

Its a really good game with some extremely creative level design. No brainer if you like platformers.

      Absolutely delightful couch Co-Op

    • yeah, it is good, kids aged 8 and 5 love it, great bright colours. Can play 4 players co-op. Definitely worth it for $10

  • How do you buy the Rayman game for $10? It doesn't allow Click & Collect and postage is $5.95.

    • select a store that has it in stock - i got click and collect via springvale vic

      • Got it now…all stores near me said Pickup is not available. I have to scroll three pages down to find a store that has it in stock in SA…thanks.

        • I called them and the store said they will email me the code with the invoice.

      • Do they email the code to you? The nearest store to me is hrs away

        • They don't, but you could try calling the store you're going to order from and see if they're willing to if you buy it.

      • So you just get sent the download code, and that’s it?

        • It comes in a normal switch case I think, it just has the piece of paper with the code instead of the cartridge.

          • @Miss B: Oh shit.. I picked Geelong store

            • @87percent: Maybe give them a call and see if they will give you the code over the phone or email it to the address linked to the order or something.

  • Can't wait for a new Rayman…

Waiting for Amazon to price match

  • Why does people hate Jerry so much? Sure, his shoes proves are generally a rip off, but they match prices..

Wasn't he the one pushing for GST to be added to all imports including those under AUD$1000?

      • Oh.. I forgot about that

  • Yes Mr Harvey, it should be half price!

  • My kid played Minecraft on iPad for long. Thought to play on big TV instead via switch instead of small device and decided to buy the switch version ($39) from JB before. Log in with Microsoft account but the world she saved on iPad cannot be transferred across to switch version. Google a lot the solutions but still unsuccessful, so end up return and continue to play on iPad. :(

I've got a Java Minecraft server running on my NAS for my son to play with his friends. But some of his friends only play Minecraft on their iPads and they are not compatible. So now my son plays Minecraft Education on his iPad because he and all his friends have access to it for free through their schools. There are 2 main versions of Minecraft. Bedrock and Java. Java is the "legacy" version. While Bedrock in theory can be played crossed platform. But Sony and Nintendo make it hard and want you to use paid services. There are ways around it. But it's a pain.

    • I would just bite the bullet and start again personally…..

    • You can upload the iPad map to a paid realm, then on the same Microsoft account on Switch, you could download a copy of the realm there. Then obviously stop paying for the realm. (I've done this process between iPad and Xbox One - unsure if there's a difference between iPad and Switch).

Upvote for the HN intro. WARNING to Minecrafters. Switch has a 2gb limit on the size of your combined worlds. It WILL limit the amount your child can explore and create. Still a great game, but if your kid gets into it, you'll probably end up having to buy a different version later on. E.g PC. I wish I'd done that from the start.

the map limit on the old ps version burned me as well

" most fondly revered and favourite retailer" 😂😂😂

  • Got sick of waiting for Amazon to drop their price, if they even will. No stock at HN at the stores near me anymore. Price matched at JB Hi Fi.

    • amazon you are losing sales
iwe are all going to jb hifi now to buy

      hurry up

  • Priced match at ebgames. Thanks OP!

  • Is this still fun without using Online Switch subscription? For couch coop and local multiplayer (2 Switches)

Amazon price matched. Just ordered one for delivery tomorrow.

    • Harvey Norman seems to be sold out, went with Amazon. Thanks!

    • Back up to $33?

  • Can't pick up Rayman from any stores nearby, that's a shame. Bought Minecraft from Amazon though.

    • It’s a digital code isn’t it? Just find a store with stock and use them to buy.

      • Yes, I could buy it and then call and hope that they are fine with opening the package and reciting the code for me and then tick it off as picked up (even though I haven't) and discard of package. Despite not being able to show id and prove who I am.

Or maybe buy it over the phone (ie giving them my credit card number) if possible so that they can verify that I'm the owner, and then proceed with the other steps. Anyway, too much hassle for me :-p

Sounds like someone above has done that, but I'd imagine it would be highly dependent on the store and employee you talk to. Seems like a lot of hassle.

Edit: or maybe they would be fine with emailing it, which means they don't have to verify who I am. Except they have to open package and discard it based on what some random on the phone claims.

Can I Play this with my son with him using switch and I use PC? Should I buy the Nintendo online subscription too?
