Advice on Selling My February 2015 Built Gaming PC?

Hi Everyone,

I just signed up to ask this question.

Contemplating on selling my old rig that I built back in 2015 and just wondering what an ideal price you think it would be and if anyone in general would be interested in an old system or no point in selling it and to just put it in e-recycling.

The specs are as followed:-

OS: Windows 10 Home 64bit(Legitimate)
CPU: Intel Core i7 4790K Quad Core 4.0GHz (4.4GHz Turbo)
MOBO: Gigabyte GA-Z97X-Gaming 3
MEM: G.SKILL RipjawsZ 16GB (2x 8GB) DDR3 2133MHz(XMP Activated) but normally it is 1333mhz)
GPU: Gigabyte G1 Gaming Edition 4GB 980 GTX (GV-N980G1 GAMING-4GD)
CPU Cooler: Corsair Hydro Series H105i (Top Mount)
SSD: Samsung 850 Pro 256GB 2.5"
CASE: Corsair Graphite 780T
PSU: Corsair HX-750i ATX 80+ Platinum Modular

Issues are as followed:-

  • Side door/glass has been flimsy since the day I built this system.
  • No rear fan inside.
  • One of the front fans makes an annoying rattling noise on cold boot ups for 3 or so minutes, then once the fans bearing warms up then the noise stops.
  • Rear Green Audio Jack has always had a continuous static sound coming through the headset when using a wired headsets(I think mobo shielding is bad). **Hence why I been using a Wireless Headsets for the last few years and well worth going Wireless imho!!
  • Needs a clean from the dust.
  • Cable management is not bad looking into the system but just do no open the other side of the case…

Overall performance wise it is okay but considering the age of the card, vram and the specs, obviously it does not keep up with todays standards.

I did try COD MW a few years back and it wasn't really a good experience even with everything turned down.. I know having an outdated system for a current game is not going to run it as well as I wish it could but it still ran the game fine, just had to tweak certain settings but games these days have so many video settings that it is ridiculous..

The last game I played with this system was Borderlands 3 at 1080p on the highest setting(BADASS) and running around a room/corridor the frame was a constant 56fps but once enemies and gunfire started happening it would drop down to like 25-30fps which is what the Sony PS4 runs at anyways so for me, the drop in FPS did not matter as it was still playable. I did the BADASS setting to test the system and to see if it could run it, in which it could but when I turned it down to high or medium then the FPS I got was in between 65-95 depending so for a 1080p rig to play on Low to High settings depending on the game, it sill seems okay right? Just do not expect high FPS on current titles as the Steam store on most games that are coming out nowadays, it recommends an 8 core cpu or higher…. If you do not believe me then go look at Serious Sam 4, STALKER 2 and Dying Light 2.

Hence why I just wanted to ask the Computing/Tech Community of the OzBargainers on their opinion on what I should do?

Reason why I want to sell is because I mainly use it for browsing, emails, basic computing stuff with the odd occasional game that I see on special which is a few or more years older because I do not bother buying current games for the PC anymore since I managed to get a PS5 from EB Games in November 2021 as they had in store pre orders. So I game more nowadays on the PS5 instead and am contemplating on getting a cheap laptop for my basic computing needs.

I built my mums i3 rig many years ago for around $450 which included case, psu, mobo, cpu, ram and ssd using all el cheapo brands but no dedicated GPU as it is just for basic browsing, youtubing, facebooking etc…

Personally, I feel that my system is way too outdated to even sell but considering the specs and if I was to try and sell the CPU, GPU and SSD individually, I could maybe make close to $500 or less… Instead my thought is maybe to sell my Gaming system for $500 instead??

If anyone could give me some ideas, advice, recommendations or just tell me to e-waste it?

Would be appreciated!!

Cheers!!

The only advice is when you sell it, don't claim that you assembled it 12 months ago.

What's wrong with just keeping it for your current use?

    • +3

Definitely will not be doing that, I will be honest and tell them that it was built Feb 2015 :)

      • +12

If you disassemble and reassemble then you can claim it was assembled only yesterday.
        /jk

        • This is why I have asked the Oz Bargain community :P

          Genius ideas!! hahahahaha..

Well technically you are correct though if I do reassemble the PC as I put it together only recently :o

Would that be worth more though if I did that?? hmmmm lol

          • +4

@Sin Han: Haha, just in case you missed it, it’s just in-house ozbargain joke referring to the “FB Marketplace Buyer Wants a Refund after I Sold Him a Computer That Is Older than He Thought” Saga. Part 1 from the seller and Part 2 from the buyer. Spoiler: it didn’t work out for the seller

On a more serious note, you could disassemble and give it a deep clean and it might be worth more or at least easier to sell.

            • +1

@FireRunner: I saw you type /jk so I knew you were joking around, I was just continuing to joke around with my rig being worth more if I did disassemble and reassemble hahaha :)

Thanks for the links, just had a read through them… Funny in a sense but as I have to others in this thread about how people can do things like that man… I don't like dishonest people, it's why the online community and even the gaming community at times is aids because of all this crap… Why can't we all just get along anymore like PC enthusiasts used to 20 or so years ago when it was a small minority of people that enjoyed and still do enjoy PCs :P..

Well as prices are coming down for GPU's and I have even done a part picker list to get a rough idea of how much an upgrade would cost, I do not think my PC would be worth more and I am not too fussed about selling it to get as much money as I can for it, I am just willing to get rid of it to a good home that will continue to use it as I hate throwing things out that can still be used.

I know e-waste/e-recycling is good as they can re-use the parts but I thought i'd ask for some advice from you guys and girls(if there were any that replied).

              Thanks again man!

          • +1

@Sin Han: It could be worth $900

Edit: ah beat me to it

            • @Banana3: I had a read through the posts :P

As I said, funny in one sense but sucks in another as people like to rip others off..

So I may get a few extra hundred dollars just for getting rid of the dust lol..

I do not understand how people can stoop that low aye.. I do not like the world as much as I used to because of how some people are in this day and age unfortunately ;..

  • +4

    But are the components current?

    • Well I written down the specs/components of the system I have..

It is outdated but it still boots up in 15 seconds due to the SSD but it isn't an M.2 SSD so it is not really "current" in that sense?

  • +1

    About tree fiddy

But seriously, in the last couple of weeks graphics cards have crashed resulting in your decent 980 no longer being competitive.
I had a similar build witha GTX760 and i7-4770 16gb ram that i sold for $350 a couple of months ago (prior to the graphics capitulation)

I think a fair price would be $300-$450.

At least you're open about your build date and not deconstructing it, and rebuilding it to say it's only a year old. Like some people on here.

    • +1

Yeah, I recall seeing the 980 GTX going for way higher last year and when the 3000 series came out and we had the GPU shortages…

Reason why I did not want to sell or get rid of my system is because I wanted to upgrade to a newer PC or get a PS5 but as you know the worlds situation the last few years, I just ended up hanging onto my outdated rig lol…

Cheers man, do appreciate your feedback in regards to what you think a good price for my system should be.

That is what the first comment said that do not claim you assembled it 12 months ago and as I am new to OzBargains forums, I did not know that was such a thing and I can honestly say to you that I would not do that as I can assure you that I am honest when it comes to selling things.

I sold Crash Team Racing on PS4 on Gumtree for $25, I originally had it on for $40 but when I saw that a PSN Deal had it for $40, I told the dude who was going to buy it off me, I will sell it to you for $25 as it is currently on special for $40.

The bloke was shocked and happy at the same time, he said he was buying it for his son which sort of made me feel better too as I know people were and are still doing it tough during this pandemic.

cheers again for the advice man!!

thats a high end gaming rig for 2015

yes, it's getting a bit old now but it's still a solid gaming PC, even today

not everyone is interested in the latest AAA FPS, plenty new AAA slower paced games will run fine on this system

you should be able to fetch $500 - $600 for it

Just clean it up, use windows 10 reset OS feature and take plenty of pics and spend you time crafting a detailed and thorough description of the pc

the issues you mentioned are minor, trash the front fan that rattles - it's not the radiator fan right? the hiss is probably down to the case - clear the hd audio motherboard connector to see if it helps, worst case scenario they can use the rear speaker 3.5mm jack IF they need it

supercheap on ebay is selling far inferior systems for $400 a pop without a GPU on a regular basis
    https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/255055692599

    • +1

      Cheers man!

I have always been more of a mid to high range gamer as in some components like a motherboard do not need to be high end because I do not use all the features or 20 usb slots etc so getting a cheaper $200 mobo for example but spending that bit extra on a GPU or RAM which obviously the mobo should support spec wise has always been my thing.. So many researching involved before building rigs lol…

There are plenty of games to play but that is why I was asking if I should sell this rig for a few hundred bucks as people can still game on it without any problems.

$500-$600? I was initially think $500 but no higher and another comment has said around $350ish so I appreciate both your feedback!

I will definitely take photos and I will reinstall certain games from steam like Borderlands 3 again just to show the frames on different settings to prove what I have said is correct.

3rd gen I3, 8gb ddr3 and no GPU as you said…. Jeez lol… who in the blue hell would buy that O_o hahaha..

Cheers for the link for comparison!

  • +3

First fix the issues and then you will be in allot better position if someone comes to look at it.

    How about:
    * sell the GPU separately
    * Upgrade MUM's PC
    * Sell left overs for what ever you can get on Gumtree

    • That is why I'll sell it cheaper I guess with those issues but being honest and saying what the problems are then it may not be worth that $500ish and as other have said, maybe worth $350ish?

GPU Market seems stable these days as there are plenty of GPU's around at great prices.

My mum does not need an upgrade to her PC as all she does is facebook, youtube and watching her K drama or other overseas shows lol…

      Cheers for the advice though!!

  • +2

    4790K was such a beast

    • Devils Canyon!!!

To be honest it still is and some games on steam still have this CPU as recommended specs.

I think Cyberpunk 2077 has the i7-4790 on the recommended system specs side.

      • +1

Oh absolutely particularly at 1080p and i'd imagine decent at 1440p depending on the title

        • Well the push these days is 4k @ 60fps and since the 3000 series GPU's that is the norm but as you know the last 2 years how it has been with shortages…

If people are still 1080p gamers like myself then there shouldn't be many issues, it's just the latest games are recommending 8core cpu's and newer gpu's or higher but as for the latest games minimum required specs the system I have is still playable but I do not think we want to spend $100 on Dying Light 2 to only play it on Low settings and at 40fps lol..

That is why as I said, I managed to get a PS5 from EB Games so I just buy the games I want to play for the PS5 instead of the PC these days.

Unfortunately I do not have a 1440p monitor, so I couldn't say but for 1080p, it has been so far so good :)

          • @Sin Han: If you have a look at steam hardware stats-;
            67.46% are still on 1080p
            2.29% on 4k

I'm personally locked into 1440p as i prefer a higher refresh rate for the games i play and still looks good.

But yes of course there are exceptions for when your CPU won't be able to boot up more modern titles

            • @Godric: Haven't looked at the hardware stats in a while :o

              https://store.steampowered.com/hwsurvey/

Yes I see that most people are still on 1080p, still 4 cores and 8gb vram but I feel the push nowadays with the latest PS5 and XBOX is 4k and since the 3000 series came out as well as I said, it is more for 4k gaming because my friend has a 3080 and managed to get one on launch.. He plays his PC games on 4k @ 60fps and as DLSS is getting better and better that 4k will be the new norm in the next few years and unfortunately we cannot upgrade our 1080p rigs to anything current due to the shortages so as I just said, maybe next 2 years the move will be towards the 4k gaming.

My other mate is like you, prefers that 1440p gaming where it's the right balance at the moment to game because it looks good and doesn't take a performance hit on an older system… He does want to eventually play at 4k but due to the shortages and price, he cannot justify it at the moment.

And in my case you are correct lol.. My system should still be able to boot up and run current titles as minimum requirements are still 4 core cpu's and as I said no point buying modern titles for this rig to play on low settings, low fps and put a negative rating on steam because of performance issues hahahaha :')

  • +1

I upgraded from a similarly aged system back in 2021 and sold the parts separately. I got about $100-$150 each for the CPU (i5-4690K) and Motherboard (Asus Z97A). I think my 2x4GB DDR3 RAM sold for $80. The rest I kept for re-use or spare parts.

If you're only using it for basic stuff, perhaps consider selling the graphic card first (and just use the iGPU).
Also, fix those issues listed. They're easy fixes and will make using (or selling) it much more enjoyable.

    • Not too bad man, well I was going to upgrade when the 3000 series cards came out but due to the shortages, pandemic, floods, droughts and what ever else we have had in the last few or more years, I decided to hold on little longer until everything went back to normal and we seem to be slowly going back to normal as I seen more stock for GPU's and what not.

I still buy the occasional game here and there though so I wait for like a very cheap steam special as I know my system is that outdated that there is no point in me buying Dying Light 2 for $100 to play at 30 fps when I can wait until the game is like $30 in 2-3 years time. So that has been my thought process last few years in regards to buying games for this rig and the shortages we have had..

They are easy fixes but if I need to spend money to fix it then, I may put the price up a bit more but if I just say and show the issues as it is, then I can sell it cheaper if someone said oh I don't think it worth that price with those issues as they may need to fix instead or unless the person happy with those for niggles that the system has.

      Cheers for the advice though!!

      • If you're still gaming, you can always upgrade the GPU to a current model (and sell off the old one).

You get to enjoy your games at higher fps NOW and you can either sell/bring it over when/if you sell/upgrade the system.

Re. fixing the system, adding new fans, cleaning dusts and using some cable tiers won't break the bank. :)

        • I do not game as much on the PC due to the age of it :')

There are games on my steam wishlist that have recently come out and that I want to play but as I said, I just buy them for the PS5 instead.

Well, I saw on OzBairgain just before a 3060 12gb for $600 on ebay but I feel the cpu will bottleneck, the ram is old as well as the mobo so I might get a bit of a performance boost but I see no point at the moment.

I am waiting until 4000 series GPU comes out and the 13th Gen CPU's as some mother boards are having boot issues with the latest DDR5 rams and what not.

If i did not have the PS5 then it would be a different story but gaming, I am fine at the moment lol..

I do clean it like every 6 months but I do not do a deep clean, so the fans and the case have a light layer of dust caked on which I need to use some solution to take it off and what not lol.. I am pretty lazy these days man, ever since the 4 month lockdown here in NSW.. I have been working 50-60 hours a week due to shortages of staff, covid and what ever else so I only get to game on weekends these days.

Not fussed about breaking the bank as that is why we work for our hobbies and interests but I was meant to upgrade when the 3000 series came out and as I have said before and as we all know the last 2-3 years how it has been. So ended up keeping this rig and am still contemplating on just keeping it for another year or so then probably e-recycle it but that is why I just wanted other people's idea, thought's, input etc :)

  • +1

maybe parting it out through ebay/fb marketplace/gumtree?

4790K about to match 9400 performance
850 Pro pretty good using MLC?
Corsair Hydro Series H105i has liquid cooling technology advanced in recent years except for RGB?

cpu+mobo+ram better to put them in a package i'd say

there will always be people who need these parts

    • I thought about that too but I felt it was going to be more of a hassle trying to part it out when I can try to sell it as is.

Devils Canyon still does well but obviously it is outdated.. 4th gen and we are now at 12th gen lol… Still minimum requirements has this cpu or a 6th gen that I've seen on some games when I browse through the steam store.

In regards to the SSD, I am not to sure what MLC but I do have Samsung Magician running and it shows drive health is Good(32.3 TB written), Sequential Read is 552MB/s, Sequential Write is 516MB/s, Random Read 85205 IOPS, Random Write 76416IOPS and performance optimization is on Standard.

Not sure if cooling technology advanced or not but I felt like this AIO cooler could have performed better but the 4790k apparently just runs too hot but at the moment I am idling at 35 degrees and when I do play a game, the temps go up to 65-70 on the CPU and no higher.

So just those 3 parts as a package rather than the whole system itself for a cheaper price?

      Do appreciate the feedback!!

      Cheers!

      • I would part them out as each component has different buyers.

The 850 Pro SSD is worthless as it is handily beaten even by consumer-grade NVMe 970 Evo.

        • Well the 850 Pro is like 8 years old now, so it was one of the first SSD's to come out and was expensive at the time too..

I bought an Samsung 860 EVO 1TB for like $180 back in 2020 because I did not have enough storage on the 850 Pro for COD MW coincidently.

It's why I tried out COD MW on this rig a few years back as I said in my post lol but obviously I am going to keep that 1TB SSD for my next rig and not sell it with this one :P

Well my computer still boots up in roughly 15 or so seconds from a cold boot up but when you restart it, it is roughly 12-13 seconds so it is still pretty good in that sense but I do know that the NVMe's poop on these older SSD's as the read and write speeds in the thousands while this is only 500 read and write.

It's good chatting man, giving me idea's and what not :)

I may just end up keeping the rig for another year until the 4000 series and 13th gen come out in which I hope that the motherboard companies fix the DDR5 ram booting issues at high speeds or xmp profiles enabled.

Then I will probably put it to e-waste as someone else said, my system is not that old yet nor is it that new, so I am stuck inbetween because in a sense it's very outdated but it still runs game fine at 1080p but as you said there are cheaper, newer and current parts for the same price but of course without a dedicated GPU :P

  • -4

A 5 year old computer is basically worthless, only someone who really needs replacement parts for their own 5 year old computer might need parts from it, however they will not want to purchase an entire computer at the same time.

You can get budget friendly modern parts for a similar price that will be much higher performance than your 5 year old parts.

Your parts aren't old enough to be considered vintage, and they aren't new enough to be considered value for money.

    • A 5 year old computer is basically worthless

Ehh, depends on what games really. It'll be able to run games like RDR2 or Fallout 4 or any other game from before 2020 just fine.

  • True!

What if my specs are better than the other persons rig and they might want my PC instead and use their 5 year old one as spare parts?

I do get what you mean though and it's a good input like others have also said to sell it part by part.

Yeah, I know you can build a modern, budget friendly rig for roughly the same price but it won't have a dedicated GPU to play games.

But the CPU's GPU have improved over time and my mum is currently using a 120hz monitor as her i3's cpu/gpu supports it but as I said, she just does basic stuff on the PC and no gaming.

That is why I am asking for some advice as I am stuck in between, pun intended as my parts aren't old enough or new enough lol..

    Appreciate the feedback though!!

  • +1

Just take a few parts out and put them back in and then can you can say it was built this year :)

    • I did not understand the first comment about this then another comment showed me why people keep saying this lol..

Cannot degrade myself like that, I have always been an honest person… I know the world is a f'd up place and there are scummy people like that but I will never stoop down to their level..

  • +2

I just signed up to ask this question.

    +1 for your honesty

    • I have been an OzBargainer for many many years, I have read through forums, look at deals daily but have never signed up or anything until now because I needed to ask a question..

Sounds selfish so if you want, you can -1 :') hahaha

Appreciate your generosity with the +1 though :)

      Cheers!!

  • +1

Sell your board and cpu and Ram on eBay, and the gpu. Buy this cpu (https://www.scorptec.com.au/product/cpu/intel-socket-1200/82…) and a mobo with the profits, wait for GPU prices to drop. The socket type (1150) will fit LGA 1200 re the cpu cooler. Clean everything up with compressed air. Alternatively bin the old case and cooler or put on marketplace for $40, sell psu on ebay, and buy a new techfast system, winning. You should net just over $550 doing it this way. Old case fans are typically the first to go, a lot are rubbish

    • +1

      darn!! :o

      so ingenious!!!

Yeah man, usually the case fans are the first to go and that is why people tend to get extra fans to upgrade them straight away rather than using the stock ones.

Not a bad idea actually when you put it the way you have but as I said man, I am not too fussed about gaming on the PC these days due to me finally being able to get a PS5.

So I just buy the games I want for the console instead and play the odd steam game here and there as it still runs all games at the moment.

I may just keep this PC for another year, upgrade then e-waste it I guess but I sort of didn't want it going to waste as someone can probably still use this and game on low settings or something but as another comment has said, can build a current system for roughly $500 anyways which is correct but it does not have a dedicated GPU..

But I do like your train of thought and the idea man so I do thank you for the comment!!

      • +1

All good, if you aren’t using the pc anyway just do what I said and buy a Nintendo switch haha - pc will still be decent as a office computer regardless

        • +1

Make the switch to the switch?? lol

Man I still have the original Nintendo and Super Nintendo from like 25-30 years ago… I am only 36… I do not feel that old but when I look back on things, it makes me feel old :')

I just wanted to keep my computer going for another person to use as it is still a decent piece of tech but the age and how technology improves so fast in a short amount of time, it sort of feels obsolete in a sense where it is better to e-waste it than to sell and it is sort of like a take away shop.

My mum is retired nowadays but she used to own a take away shop and instead of throwing a whole chicken out at the end of the night or boreks, pides, gozleme's and what not, she would bring it home and we would give it our neighbours, family or my mum would discount it cheap the last hour so because we did not like throwing food out when it can go to someone else to eat as there is still nothing wrong with and it was cooked that day or afternoon.

It's why I am not fond of throwing things out when it can still be put to good use.

          Sorry to ramble on lol..

  • +1

I read that whole thing and it really just reaffirmed why i just pay some department store or retailer the extra $ for my rubbish computers…

I don’t know a damn thing about them and would almost definitely get taken for a ride by some gaming bad boy in the second hand market 😂

At least your honest op, power to you!
Hope it sells for a bit of cash rather than go to waste.

    • +1

Sorry for the life story hahaha..

In my mind, I thought that not everyone would read the whole thing because some people are lazy :P

Well cash converters and other department stores always rip people off with these refurbished computers..

You can practically build your own for the same price with better specifications and if you do not know anything then there are nerds like myself and many others who are happy to help but just be careful because their a trolls around too lol…

Yeah man, too many dishonest people who only care about making that extra money by screwing people over.. I have never ever been like nor will I ever. Reason why I have written the life story because it is honest and I am just asking for some advice from other genuine people.

Going back 20-25 years ago when I told people I am a PC Gamer, it was like wow.. Who plays computer games? It was only for the nerds and geeks but nowadays, everyone has a computer in their hand and it is now the norm lol… I have even met up with mates that I have known for 20+ years from exchanging emails from counter strike lol.. Still keep in touch, still on steam, still game till this day man… Back then there were honest people online and I have still been that way ever since but nowadays because there are more people online that there are more bad eggs around that try and screw other over for their gain…

Appreciate your comment on the honestly, I can assure you and others I have always been an honest person in my life but obviously I have told work white lies before when I call in sick at times ;) hahaha.. Yes I have a stomach ache or food poisoning but I am sitting down and gaming the whole day xD hahahaha

Well e-waste, they recycle and re use it so in a sense that is a good thing but the rig is still pretty decent for it's age but the problem is the age because 7-8 years is too old for current titles, hence why I am asking the community for some advice what would be the best thing to do.

As I have said to a few others, I may end up just keeping it for another year before upgrading then e-waste it or as other have said, sell a few of the parts like the cpu and gpu then bin the rest.

      • I am in a similar situation, have an i7 6700 that is chugging along after all these years, but I recently bought a new CPU/motherboard/RAM upgrade so I could flog my older parts (7 years now 🥲).

Provided you don't need the PC, I'd consider selling individual parts soon. I suspect demand for previous gens will dip significantly in the near future. Why? 4000 series graphics cards coming out and increasing GPU affordability. This will drive more complete system upgrades from people who have been HODLing for prices to return to RRP or below (gasp!).

This will mean a lot more powerful and more recent setups available on the 2nd hand market, and your 4790K will start looking a lot less attractive.

There's also ETH switching to proof of stake, which will very likely add a lot of ex-mining PC rigs being put up for sale, again competing for 2nd-hand PC $.

        • I think most of us are still in a similar situation due to the shortages and price increase the last 2 years but it does seem to be getting better slowly..

Well recently the prices have been pretty good man, I have done a few parts picker list for myself from a few weeks back and most items are available if I was to upgrade to a new PC but I am waiting until they iron out the 12th Gen CPU's, DDR5 motherboard boot issues due to DDR5 MHZ speeds and plus as you said the 4000 series is coming out soon.

It has already started to dip, so that is why wanted to see what people thought I should do with some ideas but as I have said to others, may just keep onto my system for another year but obviously not game much on it as I game more on the console nowadays.

Prices are getting better everyday when I look on Oz Bargain but as you said, we are still HODLing on lol.. I've seen the comments over the last month or so saying GUYS!! HODL ON!!! lol…

Yeah better 2nd hand computers will be up for sale and mine won't look too enticing anymore but as I said, may keep this another year then just sell GPU and CPU for what ever price the e-waste/e-recycle the rest..

I never though of that actually, I honestly have not mined anything on my system, it has just been to play game and do every day computing things but as people have said that sellers are lying about the state of their rigs so I'd feel for the people that purchase these ex-mining rigs not knowing… Even though better specifications but can you really trust an ex-mining rig? hmmm

    Expensive Ewaste

Specs you listed seem better than the above.. maybe $900 is not unrealistic 😂😭

    • That is the most piece of shi-expensive ewaste I have ever seen tbh lol….

If that system is worth that much then I think mine should be a minimum of $1000?

This is what I mean, I know I won't be trying to sell it for that much but sometimes I see stupid things like that and I shake my head lol..

It's why I am asking people what they think would be best but others are like just put up a price, if it doesn't sell then keep lowering it..

So if it doesn't sell at all even if I put the price down to $200 for example :P…

Cheers for the link, had a good laugh at the specs vs price lol

Maximum price - part out and sell at a premium
Convenience - Whole system $300 - $500 quick sale *bonus monitor

Check what you're up against on gumtree locally, you might be suprised.

That link is probably the value pick from the site.. there's a helluva lot worse on there💩💩💩

        • I think if I sold the CPU, GPU, SSD and PSU that I may be able to get alright money for it but as I said, I am not too fussed a bout making maximum profit even though it's at a loss anyways lol..

Yeah I will do some investigating but I just wanted some advice, information from others who have seen, dealt with or probably know the market more and can give me a better understanding of what to expect :)

A few other have linked that FB Marketplace one which is pretty funny.. I now know why people keep saying do not say you built it 12 months ago hahah..

It blows my mind at the persons mindset or thought process when putting up a piece of poop system like that for a ridiculous price and if someone does buy it then I think again what the thought process was of the person who bought it.. Do we really live in a world full of silly people lol..

          • +1

@Sin Han: Bargains Galore on gumtree too 👍

            • @randomusername2017: Hahahahahahahaha..

              Literally in tears man!!!

              Oh man… some people…

I did 2 parts picker list a few weeks back and an i9 12th gen, ddr5 mobo, ddr5 ram, psu, case, AIO cooler and an M.2 Gen 4 SSD was around $2000.. The first list I did equalled to $1984 and the second list I did was $2392.. I did chop and change parts just to see the prices but no GPU's…

For $1300 you can build a mid to low range current generation system without a dedicated GPU obviously :P…

Hopefully people are smart enough not to purchase it…

@Sin Han: Pinch your kids toys and double the value

                • @randomusername2017: Instead of pinching the kids, I think it is best if I do this instead…

https://images-cdn.9gag.com/photo/av8bX2X_700b.jpg - pepe meme picture so it is safe to click :)

Well the gumtree add you linked is custom water cooled though?? lol

Reminds me of the Transformers Movie from 2007 where Bernie Mac says that the car is $5000 because of the custom paint job, but Shia is like it is custom faded? Bernie was still adamant about custom paint job that is why he would not go down in price hahahahaha…

                  • @Sin Han: Just highlighting there's no set price guide.. whatever the market is willing to pay at any given time, as mentioned above you'll know if you've priced it right by the level of interest. FBM/Gumtree buyers is a whole new topic, wish you luck if you've not experienced that yet…😭 😭

                    • @randomusername2017: Well from what you have shown me then I completely agree with what you and others have said in regards to whatever the market is willing to pay at any given time….

I sold Crash Team Racing for the PS4 a few years back and it was a nice smooth, easy, transaction. The dude drove to my area to pick it up as he was buying it for his son and I said it to another dude in the comments.. I had it on sale for $40 but PSN had a deal which was $40 also, so why am I going to sell the game for the same price when the bloke could of just bought on the PSN store rather than driving to my area… So I sold it to him for $25 instead and as I said in the other comment, the dude who was a decent person was surprised and very happy.

I have tried to sell other things on Gumtree where I have explained in detail like my post here and I get like no hello's, just random, rude and dumb messages..

Recently a Toyota Corolla 2013 Audio/Navigation System without the navigation sim card for $150 as they usually go for like $300-$500 with the nav sim.

I'd get messages like "$50?" or "is it still available", "yes", "i'll only pay $20"..

It's why I gave up selling things myself as I been annoyed that many times with those messages, so if I do have anything to sell I tell my sister and she sells it on her Ebay account with no dramas…

FBM/Gumtree are F'd up places most of the time tbh lol…

                      I stay clear….

    it's 2015
    it's not current
    dd3 ram
    it's not current
    2015

did I mention it's not current and 2015

    • FireRunner in the first comment of this post linked me that FB Marketplace one :P

I will dissemble and reassemble then sell it for more than what it is worth as it was built recently? lol…

2015 or 2022 is current in a sense as we are still in the 20th century or is it the 21st? :P…

List as as being built 12 months ago and sell it for $1,000.

    • I just hope it works and I hope I get a new person who has no idea rather than the person that got conned recently hahaha

Honestly, the system sounds fine. My only recommendation would be to tackle some of the issues you've noted, as they will be the first thing anybody who comes around to look at it will see. Best places to list it would be Facebook Marketplace (+ Computer Buy/Swap/Sell Groups) and Gumtree.

"Side door/glass has been flimsy since the day I built this system." - Any chance of this being an issue with the screws holding the side on? Depends on the case I guess.

"No rear fan inside." - This one is an easy fix. It's probably a 120mm fan, which you can get for $20 or so. Install it as an exhaust fan to vent heat.

"One of the front fans makes an annoying rattling noise on cold boot ups for 3 or so minutes, then once the fans bearing warms up then the noise stops." - This fan still works, so it'd be down to whether the person who buys it wants to fix the issue. It's as simple as just replacing the fan.

Rear Green Audio Jack has always had a continuous static sound coming through the headset when using a wired headsets(I think mobo shielding is bad). - Spot on. It's an issue with the grounding. Did you use a headset that has a green 3.5mm and USB power? My Razer Tiamat's used to have the same issue. Best solution depends on the headset, but if it's only using the USB for power, you can bypass the PC entirely and use a regular USB power brick instead.

Needs a clean from the dust. - I'd recommend cleaning the system as best you can before taking pictures for the listing.

I've got an older PC that I'm hoping to list soon, but I'm in two minds about buying another shitty card (even a 1030 is $120+!) so that I can show it booting, knowing that it adds nothing to the price. The CPU and Motherboard are still sought after though, so I might get lucky.

    Specs:

    Operating System: Windows 10 (x64)
    CPU: i7 3930K [6C/12T] (3.2GHz - 3.8GHz, Running @ 4.7 GHz)
    RAM: 16GB DDR3 (Running @ 2133 MHz)
Motherboard: Rampage IV Extreme (BIOS 4901)
    Storage: 1TB Crucial SSD (MX500)
    Additional Storage: 6.26TB (4+2TB HDD + 256GB Samsung SSD (840 EVO)
    Audio: 7.1 Surround Sound Onboard
    Optical Drive: BluRay Litescribe Drive

    • As others have said now that the market is slowly stabilizing that our older systems may not be too enticing to others and by looking at your specs man, it is similar to mine so if people are telling me a rough estimate $350-$500ish?

That is the thing man, do you want to spend an extra $120 just to sell it for a cheaper price, it is why I have said it how it is for what ever price so it is going to be up to the individual if they want it to fix it because the overall stats of your PC and mine are still pretty decent!!

Sort of like a car in a sense when people ask if it is Mechanically A1 but when you look at it from the outside, it has dents and what not due to the age of the car but the engine is pretty good as it has been looked after which still has a bit of dust lol…

I know fans are pretty cheap but do not really need a rear exhaust fan to get rid of the heat, it's usually an optional thing.

For the Rear Audio Jack, I would use a headset that had a green 3.5mm or if I ever changed headsets, I would use a 3.5m splitter and I have used USB headsets without any dramas but the last few years man I have been using a wireless headset with no issues as the usb dongle has the drivers?

The front audio jacks work but the problem is that the quality of the front compared to the back is quite noticeable as the back is better quality but has the static lol…

Oh and I do have a DVD Drive which I forgot to mention as nobody uses them anymore hahaha..

Thank you for your comment man and hopefully it goes well for you in regards to selling your system but as you know, we all want things dirt cheap but as people have been telling me, we should be able to sell it for a $1000 if we tell people we built it in the last 12 months apparently LOL!!!

  • HODL , you will get better prices latter when chip shortage plus supply chains get worse and if btc hit another ath

wait for the war effect to take place, as russia precious metals and ukraine neon gas , couple with china lockdowns

will hit all semis hard with high prices and shortages

    • Smart man!! :o

      Thank you!!

Did not even think about the War having an affect and chain reaction on things..

Fuel prices have gone up like 50-80 cents, so my old ass system may go up in price as well :o??

      Good call!!

      I will HODL!!! hahahaha

I am gifting my wife's computer to GIVIT, if you get stuck check them out. https://www.givit.org.au/

    • Oh wow!!

Thank you very much for the website!!

I do have a monitor, got a wall unit still in the garage since Covid started so I may give other things away instead if it can help.

Have already donated $50 towards the flood disasters as I do donate $50 on a monthly basis to different places that need it like the rural fire service when we had the fires 2-3 years ago, for the drought/hay bales, daffodil day, westmead childrens hospital etc…

I just doubt the places I donate too actually require any goods and the other week, I got an $80 electric heater and an older rice cooker I had in the cupboard in which I gave to the salvation army. Just thought if anyone had ideas but this www.givit.org.au is probably the best advice/information I have gotten tbh.

      Thanks Mick!!

Tldr esays are ripe in here.

Chuck it on marketplace/scumtree for what you want for it and if nobody bites just lower the price. And put negotiable in the ad.
