Stay at a "Leading Hotel of the World" for $19.28

201

To celebrate their 80th birthday, Leading Hotels of the World is running a promotion where you can stay in almost 100 of their properties around the world for US$19.28 between November 1-Dec 15, 2008. Unfortunately, you can't stay in their Australian hotels but much of the rest of the world is covered. It's not clear what type of rooms will be up for grabs; rooms at LHW properties range from US$500-2000, so for $20, any room will do.

You must preregister at their website.

On October 1st @ 10PM Wednesday (EST Australian Time)they will sell the rooms for 80 minutes.

  • Thanks!

Now we wait to see if we can get the booking tomorrow night.

  • It's a steal :) … too bad it's not in Oz ..

    • Does that warrant a negative? Strange. Its still great deal for "Australians" looking at travelling abroard during that time frame

      • Unfortunately…… yes :( it's "Oz"Bargain, right? :)

        • Yes, Oz. Australians can use this deal so they should be aware of it. Australisn can take advantage of this deal right?

Just like Airasia One Million seats sale (even before Aussie routes) that was one of the best deals posted on 'Ozbargain'.

          • @zhenjie: Australians can use this deal or any deals available anywhere :)

The point is, this is not about what Australians can use or buy, but, more to what Australians can do with the bargain in "Australia".. hence.. the very reason we all ended up here, a great site called "OzBargain"…

            • @elcheapo: they can save money while in australia booking these tickets.

              Not good enough?

            • @elcheapo: I believe it's bargains for Australians. And I am going to Thailand in November so it is a good deal as I haven't sorted out some of the stay.

            • @elcheapo: There are many users of this site who have taken advantage of these so called non Australian deals.. as long as it is useful to us I don't know why it should be any less important than Aussie exclusive deals. I don't think this deal deserves a negative.

  • no this is a good deal please allow it because it will let us buy cheap rooms overseas.

  • Yes, this is a good deal.

I'll be going overseas during that period and i did actually book at one of those hotels listed.

At least if i can get 2 nights (max) at US$19.28, its a deal for me :)

It will save me at least US$800 for 2 nights

  • Gosh - Australians do travel outside their own borders you know. Especially since this site also has the headsup on overseas airfares.

So to those who are posting overseas travel stuff - keep doing it. There are those that really appreciate it.

  • it is only 5:14pm in sydney

  • 35mins of refreshing, still nothing.

i wonder how many email addresses they now have for marketing purposes, since everyone would have used their 'real' details.

    • Yeah. I certainly fell victim to that.

I'd be interested to know if anyone actually got a booking.

    • ahh I didn't read that.
I haven't pre registered but yeah looks like there is no chance getting this deal. :(

  • 40 minutes gone, 40 to go… will keep trying, but think it's almost time to give up. :(

  • LOL… my hand is getting sore from clicking….I think the server is using a Dodo dialup?

  • I feel quite stupid to keep press refresh and come out at same result.
Really want to know does anyone get booked.

  • ok we are all victims
it is too good to be true

    • 20 mins left, I think no one can get it. =.=

  • OK, I give up. Scam it is…

  • 1hr of my life back please

  • nothing we can do?@@

  • Found this on another website…

"I just spoke to one of the Regional managers at LHW and she confirmed that the problem is due to a queuing system in place. One person out and then one person in. With about 250,000 people trying to get in, this means it will be almost impossible."

What a joke. Think I might need to replace my F5 key after all that!

  • What a joke.
In that case it means there was no point "pre-registering" other than to get our email.

  • i wonder how very unpopular this promotion is going to make them.

  • BASTARDS!!! Thats 1 hour down the drain!

    and im in PERTH!!! BAH!!!

  • Yea, what a joke. I have bad image of this hotel now.
To celebrate of 80th birthday (can collecting 250,000 email at that day).

    =.=
Maybe we don't understand what they actully mean.

    :P

  • They were quick to put this up:
Thank you for your interest in the 1928 Promotion.
We regret to inform you that the more than 6000 room nights available at the start of this promotion have all been sold. Congratulations to the lucky participants who were able to get a reservation as part of this great offer!

Still interested in travelling with us? While we can't offer you rooms at USD 19.28, we can still offer some great values, including bundles of 3 nights for the price of 2, 4 for the price of 3, or 7 for the price of 5, as well as discounted weekend rates and other Leading Offers.

    • That's 75 rooms/minute.. yeah, right.
Scam all the way… and a stupid one at that! Nobody's gonna pay $500+ a night after this!

  • LOL…bastards!!!…my holiday to bali is ruined now…haha not!

  • LOL!
    Now it says this:
Due to the overwhelming number of consumers participating in this promotion. We regret to inform you due to technical difficulties beyond our control the 1928 promotion has been suspended indefintely.

  • Should be called:

Stay at a "Thieving Hotel of the world"

  • They keep changing their story:

Due to the overwhelming number of consumers participating in this promotion, we have indeed experienced technical difficulties. Despite our efforts to carefully manage and prepare for this worldwide promotion, we were unable to meet the demand.

Please accept our sincere apologies. You will be receiving another opportunity to participate in this offer shortly via the email you provided to register for this promotion.

In the meantime, please rest assured that we will not be saving your email address in our database for any future solicitations.

    Thank you for your understanding.

The Leading Hotels of the World, Ltd.

  • I reckon they'll send you another email saying that the email server has been overloaded with request and cannot process anymore reservations….LOL

  • From Luxist

The company has issued a press release apologizing for the situation, citing the overwhelming response to the promotion as being a factor in the website error. They have confirmed that everyone who pre-registered for the promotion is currently being contacted by email and will be sent a form which will allow them to re-attempt to secure reservations at the promotional $19.28 rate via email.

But then that plan fell through too. The promotional website now has a message that says in part that "although our original back-up plan provided a viable solution for the 150,000 people who were registered, it was met with some confusion over submission procedures and timing. In addition, we have become increasingly concerned that a large number of non-registered respondents plan to submit forms which would inundate the system and greatly diminish your chances of securing a USD 19.28 rate."
