  • $90 delivery to Perth Metro.

  • Sorry not very audio tech savvy ,how does this compare to one of the Samsung soundbar systems $1k plus , We have a 4m x4.5m living room and similar sized future theatre room. Looking something too enhance tv speakers for films and ps5

    • If you are planning for a dedicated theatre room, you are probably better off with a home theatre system. The amp will have many more inputs than a sound bar, so that you can plug all your devices in it instead of the TV/ projector. You can have a much better sound stage (e.g. 3 speakers facing you- one of which is dedicated for dialogue, 2 speakers right behind your ears, 2 behind your back and 2 in the ceiling, plus 1 or 2 woofers). You can start off with a 2.1 setup and keep adding other speakers in future, depending upon what amp you get. You can also get a dual zone system so you can play music in the bedroom, backyard etc using the same amp.
Soundbars are all the craze but better suited for bedrooms and smaller spaces, plus have the comparative convenience of set up.

Many thanks for the reply ,how would rate this one? Or any others under $1000

The only criticism of this one I could think of is the age of the system. It was released in 2017!

The alternatives to Sonos? Not too many products exist in the wireless hi-fi segment. This is still the best alternative to Sonos and at this price, I think it's good value (especially compared to sound bar under 1k)

        • I am not sure about this one and I haven't kept an eye on the market since I bought Yamaha RX-V475 many years ago, for less than $1k. But today I did look up a few stores like JB, HN, BLee and GG and it seems the market now favours soundbars more than home theatre systems (probably because most people think its an overkill or that HTs are for home cinemas?) You can still buy some good systems from dedicated media retailers or even Yamaha's own site/ Amazon store. In good old days, they used to sell many more so-called Home Theatre in a Box (i.e. receiver/ amp and speakers bundled together), making the decision easy for noobs like me, as buying individual components can be daunting (imagine building your own PC vs buying pre-assembled).
In any case, if you aren't too much worried about future, YHT-1840 for $550 might serve you. Otherwise you might step up to YHT-1A for around $1100, YHT-2A for $1300. Not sure too much about the differences between the latter two but you can compare their specs. Also, if buying from a brick n mortar store, try to negotiate and you can sometimes get a good prices, due to higher margins in these for the stores. I am listing Yamaha only as I have goof experience with it. Others might prefer Sony or Pana or other brands. Hope it helps.

  • This will always be better than soundbar

  • Not sure why pioneer wasn't able to compete with Sonos with this product either! Maybe pioneer is not great at marketing? Who knows.

  • I just set this up..it's really good.
