Hi guys, could you please recommend me a nbn compatible wireless router for a two bedroom apartment. My plan is a 50/20mbps. My ISP offers Google nest wifi for $199 but I was looking for a cheaper one. I don't do gaming. Just need it for Netflix and kayo streaming. Thanks in advance.

I am not sure. How do I find that out? The email from the ISP doesn't say anything. Couldn't find the info in the customer portal too.
Check here.
Thanks a lot. It says HFC.
@apprentice: nbn provide a HFC modem that you plug into your wireless router. Is your ISP More Telecom?
@Twix: Yes.
@apprentice: Telstra Smart Modem Gen 2 $50 or less @ Gumtree.
TP-Link Deco M5 (Singular Pack) $129 C&C @ Centre Com.
TP-Link ARCHER AX10 $149 C&C @ The Good Guys.
ASUS RT-AX55 $143.99 Delivered @ Amazon AU.
@Twix: NBN don’t provide a modem.
NBN provide the NTD that your ISP modem plugs into. But with most HFC providers, you just need a wireless router that you plug into the NTD
@87percent: The NTD provided for nbn HFC is a Arris CM8200 DOCSIS 3.1 cable modem.
@apprentice: You will just need a router for the NBN modem (black box that’s should be already there) to plug into.
@dealbrry: So a cheap one like this should be okay https://www.centrecom.com.au/tp-link-tl-wr841n-300mbps-wirel… or should I invest a bit more?
@apprentice: Sounds like the Telstra one everyone has been mentioning is a good option.
@dealbrry: Yes, I saw some on FB marketplace selling for $15-20. Will buy one then.Thanks
@apprentice: Don't get that TP-Link - you want a router that supports Wireless-AC at least. Wireless-N advertises "300Mbps" but most N routers struggle to hit 35Mbps at range, so you won't get your full internet speed.
Also Wireless-N is stuck on 2.4GHz - you are very likely to get interference from other 2.4GHz routers and sources, especially in high-density living. Going with Wireless-AC gets you 5GHz = more airspace available = less interference = better speeds and range.
The Telstra one sounds like a good budget option.
I'm on HFC and just upgraded to a "Telstra Smart Modem Gen 2". It was $20 off FB marketplace. It supports 2.4 and 5GHz wifi, gigabit speeds, easy/auto setup, etc.
Wouldn't it be locked to Telstra?
Nah you can use it with most ISPs.
Yeah, I'm using it with Origin currently.
Hi Guys, I am with TPG HFC. So I can't have "telstra Smart Modem gen2" from marketplace. What is my cheapest option with wireless AC and some gigabit ports?
@Twix your opinion needed.Today I bought brand new a "telstra Smart Modem gen2" for $20 from marketplace, tried directly connecting with NBN modem, didn't work as expected as I am on TPG HFC. However I then tried putting it in one of the LAN cable of my 10 years old modem/router. It works. It's a great improvement for my home wifi. My old modem only had b,g,n and No AC.
Update: I bought a Telstra Smart Modem Gen 2 for $15 from FB marketplace. The settings of the modem for me was bit different than the most common modem brands I used before. But once i familiared myself with it, all I needed to do was register the ISP username and password. I am with More telecom on 50/20 plan. It's working well. The very first test showed 48.6 Mbps speed. Thank you everyone for your help.
What’s your connection? Do you need a modem router or just the router? I’m on HFC and have bought a basic Archer C54 Router. Haven’t set it up yet but supposed to be fine for simple stuff.
