How Many TV's Does an Average OzBargainer Have?

I am always tempted with the excellent TV deals that keep coming up here but can't really justify buying another TV. Not that I am a frugal person but I have space issues and the fact that the TV's are getting bigger and bigger is not helping. How do you offload your old TV's and the best part how do you convince yourself to getting a newer tv?

    Average OzBargainer

I'm sure if you average out the results, and round it to a whole number, it'll be 1.

I think a different story with eneloops, laptops, tablets.

    • I would have thought so but then let's find out. I sit in the number 2 mark btw

    • +1

might as well add projectors in the list

    • you think there are enough with 0 tv's?

  • +7

no zero option? We got rid of ours a while ago.

    • will add that now

    • Yep, been 10+ years now I'd guess. Haven't missed it.

  • +3

    55" in the lounge
    32" in the bedroom
    27" x 2 monitors in the study

I think the answer comes down to how many people in your household.

    • +20

      i wouldn't count monitors as TV's..

      • +1

I would if you watch TV on them.

    • -1

You should replace the 55" with a 70" and replace the 32" with 42"

    What's an "Average Ozbargainer"?

Personally I think I'm an Exceptional Ozbargainer…does that mean you don't want to poll me?

Waiting for the Retro comeback. ;)

  • +1

One TV in my household. Not counting the two PC monitors (38" and 27").

I intend to use them till they either die or I upgrade (then off to GT).

  • +2

got to at least have one of each type right?

    • catch them all

  • my unit, live just me and the cat, 55in in loungeroom, 32in in bedroom, and 22 curved 32in monitors for my PC gaming, I have a 3rd 24in monitor sitting unused atm

    • +4

Do the curved monitors make a Dyson sphere around you when you are playing?

      • +6

oh shit, typo, 2 not 22

        • +7

Would have been an epic setup!

      • Do the curved monitors make a Dyson sphere around you

I'm impressed by someone who can make that reference.

  • +3

How many apostrophes does "TVs" have? None.

    • +2

Awesome, the inspectors are here too. Welcome!

      • Inspector's* if you're being consistent.

  • The average Ozbargainer would just buy another property.

  • 2, but I only use 1

  • First the OP has to define what they mean by a "TV".

Years ago the meaning of that word was clear. It was a box containing electronics and a screen that you plugged into a power point and an antenna and watched free to air TV programs on. But the such boxes became multi media centres. And then there was cable TV and boxes for watching that. And along came TV and multi media software for personal computers. And manufacturers made boxes with just the electronics in them that you plugged a screen into. And then "television" became something you didn't just watch live, or record and watch later, but also something you could download over the internet. Even on your phone. Does that make a phone a "television"?

If the OP means a box with electronics in it and a screen that you plug into a power point and an antenna and turn on when you want to watch live broadcast programs, well, I haven't had one of those for years. But I have a HDHomeRun quad tuner box on my home LAN, and any computer in my home can be a "television" when I start the appropriate software on it. And one of them has a biggish screen on it that I mainly only use for that purpose. And over the years that screen has been replaced with bigger and bigger ones, and I have to take the older smaller lower resolution ones to recycling as they accumulate.

I haven't owned a "television" since Windows 7 came out and had Windows Media Center in it. How long is that?

    • +6

I feel like you're overcomplicating it.

A TV is still a screen with a tuner in it for OTA broadcast reception that may also have the ability to do other things - run apps, run games, connect to the internet, stream video services etc.

A monitor connected to windows media centre PC is not a TV despite having similar combined functionality.

  • 1 x ~13 year old TCL 32” that belongs to the apartment
1 x ~14 year old Samsung Plasma that was free because it didn’t work

  • +2

Are you interested in the median, mean or mode?

    • an average per household is something I was looking for. I will leave the complex data analysis to someone else willing.

  • +1

TVs get handed downward, so the lounge TV will get upgraded, that TV will go to the bedroom, the bedroom TV will go to the kitchen, the kitchen TV gets donated to a local school.

    • may as well add a bathroom tv while youre at it

  • +2

How Many TV's Does an Average OzBargainer Have?

Are you including PC's, laptops, iPads with a TV Tuner ?

    • anything for media consumption but mostly interested in a tv. I am convincing myself to getting a 85 inch LG tv I saw here a couple of days back

      • +1

I am convincing myself to getting a 85 inch LG tv I saw here a couple of days back

Why would what others are using affect what you want?

        • +1

Don't tell me you are never influenced by the 'others'

      • +1

        anything for media consumption

That's a vastly different question than the number of TVs IMO. Technically that'd even include my Sony Walkman, original ipod and the AM/FM radio in the shed.

        • Yup you are right, didn't really think about that. So mostly TV's then

  • Monitors shouldn't count but I reckon projectors should.

  • 0 is not an option ?

    • Tried to add 0, for some reason it doesn't reflect

      • In that case you'll have more CAPTCHHHA's to do

        • The Captcha's tend to elude me. In all honesty I edited to add a 0 and did a repost. It wont show

  • +1

Let me go to the shed and start counting…

  • +1

the excellent TV deals that keep coming up

any what are these 'new' TVs doing that your old one haven't been able to do?

  • 4 TVs (3 Smart) and I only paid for one

  • +1

    Living room x 1 (wall-mounted 65")
    Kitchen x 1 (drop-mount from ceiling 32")
    Game room x 2 (on-stand 32" and wall-mounted 55")
    Outdoor area x 1 (wall-mounted 47")

    TVs x 5, Humans x 2

  • One in the living room and two in my two daughter's bedrooms.

  • Moved to projectors in Covid !! 2 projectors

  • +1

1 TV, don't get free to air out here… cancelled foxtel… only use it for streaming videos on the rare occasion… just a dust collector now…

  • +1

2 x living areas, 1 bedroom, 1 outdoor area/pool, always donate old tv's to someone less fortunate

    • You’re a good egg

  • 3 TVs, all 4K, all smart, all LG, 75" 65" 42"
I feel very average right now.

  • 2.
    Sony 4K LCD
    Sony Full HD LCD

But since others are doing it, monitors:

    25" 1440p
    27" 1440p
    27" 4K
    27" 5K * 2

Plus the ones on three laptops and the iPad Pro.

  • 5 or more, but having said that it's a house of 4, one in loungeroom, one in mancave, parents bedroom, kids rooms, and kids game room…. and most of them acquired as free or cheap giveaways from corporations replacing end of life tv's - certainly didn't buy that many 55" screens :o
