PARROT AR Drone Quadricopter (with Free Bonus Battery) $289 Free Shipping Works with Andriod

40

t’s here! One of the hottest toys in the US for Christmas 2011 has finally landed in Australia.
You might have seen it on a recent episode of Modern Family and thought it was super cool how the boys were controlling a helicopter with an iPhone.
So what’s the Parrot AR.Drone? Put simply, it’s a 4-propellor helicopter (aka Quadricopter) that you control with your iPhone, iPad, iTouch or Android device.
The Parrot AR.Drone is the first Quadricopter for video games, which uses Augmented Reality.
Two Cameras are embedded in the Parrot AR.Drone, one on the front and one underneath. Through the cameras, the video is streamed onto the iPod, iPhone or iPad screen. Imagine the amazing aerial shots that you can get with that!
It’s very easy to pilot the Parrot AR.Drone thanks to all the technology it contains.
You can play inside or outside thanks to the different hulls. Once assembled, the full hull shield protects the Parrot AR.Drone from possible damage.
Watch our video below to see the Parrot AR.Drone in action. Once you’ve seen one, you’ll want one!

Don’t pay up to $349.95 in some places for the Parrot AR.Drone. There are 250 units of the orange/ green-coloured Parrot AR.Drone available for just $289. That’s a saving of over $6o. At this price, you’d better be quick if you want to have the coolest helicopter on your block! As a bonus you will also receive a spare battery valued at $34.95.

The 2.0 drone is due out in June, I would wait. This is a fairly standard price and I am sure the price will drop in the lead up to the 2.0 release.

  • Battery life is 12 minutes?????

    • yes and charge time is horrendous

  • Were you expecting 24 hours?

Have you ever owned an RC heli or car before???

      Install JuiceDefender?

  • Parrot AR Drone is pretty awesome but im looking at 3D Robotics and building a system from parts http://store.diydrones.com/ there are many different options with 3D Robotics. They are also open source designs.

Don't bother with these "toys". Get one that is fun and has a use.

    • Have nice day!

      • Yep, poor Yuri won't be having such a nice one with his insurance paperwork! Sadly, standard flying toys have just been ruined for me…from now on, no machine gun, no deal! :p

  • @joey4, thats all done with cgi its fake.

Personally if anyone wants a Drone i'd wait until the 2.0 gets released and then rather get a 2.0 or get a 1.0 when stores sell them off cheaper, i already have the 1.0 and for me personally can't see any reason to upgrade so i'll be sticking it and maybe buy a second one if stores sell them cheaper for spare parts when the 2.0 becomes available.

But they are really Fun to use and quite easy to control, my advice is just go and find a nice big area to take the Drone to and don't go out when its too windy and Enjoy!!

Oh and OP, the Max height is NOT 6 meters, that's just the range of the Ultrasonic Sensors that will keep the Drone stable to the Floor, the range of the Drone is around 50 meters, so you could possibly go to a Hieght or 50 meters.

  • what can you do with this expensive toy?

    • Score some nerdy chicks.

  • Battery Life: 12 Minutes
    Recharge Time: 90 Minutes

    • Pretty standard for LiPo remote control toys.
Charge time is too long though, could have used some hobbyking 5C recharge LiPo's :)

  • Werent these $150 at EB Games?

  • Looks like a fun toy but too expensive.

Sounds to me these are unwanted gifts from the States and now luring Ozzies to buy!

    • This is not the case as its been availible in Australia for some time, July 2010 i think, or when the device was first available. Its also sold at many retailers and the Telstra shop is/was a seller of the drone.

Stick a machine gun on a Furby & I might be interested! :p
