From Thursday 10th until Saturday 12th March, we’re halving adoption fees for large breed dogs over 20kg. During this adoption drive, we’re also welcoming back walk-ins for dog adoptions, for the first time in two years.

hahahaha dog price,
They should just do it by breed…
Why are they penalising dogs who aren't fat.
Go in Thursday feed it heaps of food for few days and weigh it again Saturday and now half price.
You shouldn't have to do that though… that is my point.
Normally, they reduce fees based on the dog's age and breed, it is ludicrous to do it by weight.
Clearly they want to help get adopted more of their larger breeds, a lot of people go in just wanting to adopt smaller breeds, irrespective of age.
@Slut: Lots of breeds are around 20kg though.
The dogs slightly under will not get adopted now, they will be left behind and risk getting put down, even if they are more suitable for the adopting family.
@jv: If an extra $230 puts a family off adopting a pet, or makes them choose another pet to adopt, they should not adopt that pet at all.
@OZKap: So why did you upvote. Why should they only now choose to adopt because it half price?
Surely they fall in the category of "they should not adopt that pet at all."
@jv: I upvoted to raise awareness of the "Lost Dogs Home" in general.
I do not care about the deal, however adopting an animal is a great thing. Perhaps somebody who is looking to adopt but didn't find a suitable pet can find one through this website.

That is an invalid upvote…

@jv: Make me.

They can do that anytime, and by your own statement:
"If an extra $230 puts a family off adopting a pet, or makes them choose another pet to adopt, they should not adopt that pet at all."
@jv: TL;DR
have a sook
hang around n wait for the dog to poop
they go pretty often in a dayWhat a stupid comment.
You're an oxygen thief
Will they weigh the dog before processing the adoption? Don't think so. The fees will be based on the average adult weight of the dog as per the breed.
Unless things have changed they weigh all dogs coming into the shelter as part of the vet check.
It will be like a weigh in at the boxing, but in a reverse way
Big dog eats more food. This isn't a deal.
A bargain greyhound incoming.
Better dealing with this group rather than the scumbag - rspca - couldn't be bothered helping out in the floods
RSPCA harassed me over only providing 1 kennel for my 2 dogs - who didn't use the 1 kennel anyway as they are indoor dogs + I have a 3 walled landing with a roof for shelter. Then they came back and took my chicken away and killed her because she had a growth on her foot which gave her a limp. Jerks.
Sounds like ur neighbour was pissed off at u.
I need to stop feeding helium to my English Mastiff.
I like big dogs and I cannot lie
Encouraging people to impulse adopt an enormous animal?
Nah I can't see how this one might go wrong at all. Carry on.
its not a elephant seal, relax
Calling any dog over 20kg enormous lol
They should include mandatory training for the owners first. I've seen many new owners struggle with their newly adopted huge dogs either in walking them or containing them in tiny inner city yards.
Dogs are pets for life.
I believe they're going by breed size rather than the actual weight of the dog.
Example this dog is "half price adoption" but the website says she weighs 19kg
I believe they're going by breed size
Which is what I suggested above they should be doing. Not going by a dog's individual weight, which is what the deal post is suggesting…
I want a Newfie!!
Best I can do is a staffy-mix

He would make a brilliant pet. A very gentle and loving breed who are keen to learn. They are a bit on the lazy side and happy to sleep all day. Great with kids!!
I adopted a dog through these guys for my Mum a few years ago. Fantastic group, actually wouldn't let me take the dog without the eventual owner there so they could ensure she was aware of the behaviour and health issues. Included a month of pills and about half a dozen subsequent check ups due to the dogs needs.
I also do kitten fostering through them when I can.
Great mob.
half price dogs hahaha
