Wages, Rent & CEO for Woolworths

Could someone kindly help me out here, I was just looking for some simple figures to compare the following for F21 at Woolworths.

I just want to compare the cost of Rent / Realestate, Wages & C-Level Compensation.

Got an acquaintance saying that wages are too expensive and people don't deserve that much. Thanks.,

Everyone should get paid at least $80,000 pa.

      Welcome to communist Australia….

      • Why is it communism? He said "everyone should get paid AT LEAST". At the moment everyone in a full time job gets paid at least $40,368 (or so). Also, haven't seen much movement by the ScoMo to nationalise our industries yet.

fair enough i didnt read it properly i only glanced at it i didnt see the at least part.

In which case 80p.a for everyone would just result inflation proportionate to that pay increase

ie in Zimbabwe you will get paid a 100m but there currency is almost worthless thus you are not really 'richer'

What ideally should happen in Australia is no matter what you do for work your salary could at a base level increase with CPI this should be a law which would for a limit on the growth in inequity that is happening between rich and poor.

          • @Trying2SaveABuck: More of less, I think I was just outraged that someone would call Mr Rekt a communist!

So someone with no experience (that might start at 50k) should be paid the same as someone who has two years of experience (say.. 80k)?

This effectively raises minimum wage to a whopping $40.5/hr. Thats crazytalk.

Annual reports, go to their financial statements.

Crab barrel mentality. The rich pit the middle class against the poor.

I bet that same person is conscious about the environment yet companies make up bulk of pollution.

"Crab barrel mentality. The rich pit the middle class against the poor"

Or in America the rich pit the middle class against the immigrants.

      Wonderful place

There is really no need to compare the pay packet of the check out chick with that of Banducci.

The only thing that will happen is the subsequent lamentable outrage that the people on the ground do that hard work and don't get paid enough.

The CEO's remuneration is the fairest rate as it is ratified by the Shareholders, where as the minimum wage is artificially set.

The CEO's remuneration is the fairest rate as it is ratified by the Shareholders

Ah yes, the shareholders. Corporations holding shares (i.e. ETFs, Super companies), fellow board members, friends, colleagues, former colleagues, politicians, former politicians and ordinary people fortunate/rich enough to participate in the share market. (yes, you don't need to invest a lot to participate in the share market, but most Australian's have got more important - at least to themselves - things to spend their money on. And the share market is, to many people, a big scary thing that's essentially gambling but feels like you're more likely to lose)

And how many of those shareholders are actually voting? How many are voting with thought? How many are just voting yes? How many are looking at it and going "yeah, he deserves to get $x"?

  • Got an acquaintance saying that wages are too expensive and people don't deserve that much.

Everyone knows everyone else's worth. Perfect.

Not sure if acquaintance wants store staff pay cut or C level. Given 200k staff a $1m cut in C level compensation is worth $5 to each staff member.

  • Pay the CEO $60/hr, and filter down wages from there. You'll see a lot of mismanagement.

    • 60 bucks an hour? CEOs have a lot of responsibility, You won't get a job done well at that level and figure.

      • I agree. It was supposed to be sarcasm

        • Sarcasm was wasted there… missed the runway by lightyears.

They have a large profit so they can afford it. The govt has already chipped away at penalty rates etc. Your friend should join the liberal party. I worked part time in afruit shop and there is no break in a 4 hour shift.

there is no break in a 4 hour shift.

      How outrageous :/

      • is all good, I took m own drink and snack with me

    • Hi Pam.
So sorry to hear you couldn't get at least a short break when working in a 4hr shift.

  • CEO of Woolies made 8.4m last year.

Say you split that among all 200,000 employees across Woolies.

Everyone gets an extra $42/pa.. Yay?

    • shhhhhhhhhh the faux outrage is building….

    • Yeah, but if you took the whole C-suite, you could probably get that to $100 per employee. That extra 5c an hour is sweeeeeeeeeeet lucre, baby!

    • I guess the debate to be had is whether $8.4mil is excessive for someone who runs arguably one of Australia's most important companies and looks after the livelihood of 180,000 employees and God knows how many suppliers livelihoods? Oh, and keeps the TP stocked… To me it doesn't seem excessive. Not compared to some other companies out there.

They had to backpay didnt they? This impacted the f21 result. Also, may have been some further asset impairments.
