Whats the point of the app if the prongs are connected with a wire

    • what? so you can see the temperature on your phone?

      • The machine with the temperature is right there

So you just sit next to your oven or bbq for hours?

          • @Aequitas: Nah, it's Wi-Fi, you can go to the pub and keep an eye on your BBQ temps

            • @hotphil: Yes I know that, its the other guy who thinks the app is pointless since the temperature is displayed on the device the prongs plug into

    • So you don't need to visit the BBQ or smoker to check temps on the screen

  • Their are used to check the temp of the meat or at a particular area of the bbq. The app is so you can review that remotely instead of the unit next to the bbq.

  • what thermometers are recommended that measure ambient/oven temp? i have a woodfire oven that i would like to know the temp before sticking stuff into it

You can use the probes that come with this (it comes with two little bracket thingy you can put between grill bars - can see them in the picture). Or buy a non-pointy probe for about $10 e.g. https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/324302453975 they're exactly the same as the pointy ones, just non-pointy

I use one to monitor bbq temp and another probe to monitor internal meat temp. tbh, 4 probes is overkill for me, never used more than 2, and an instant-read to confirm before pulling meat out of bbq.

The probes do "wear out" eventually and you'll get zany readings and need replacing. You can also calibrate them in the app if one routinely reads a few degrees +/-.

Couple of things to note, this unit ONLY works on 2.4GHz Wi-Fi. And can be fiddly to set up. Once you turn the unit off you lose all graph data of your cook from the app, so save it first if that's your thing.

If its woodfire you're probably doing pizza? Infra-red probe guns are good for that since you mostly care that the base stone is hot enough. Otherwise these probes work fine, but the cheapest option is just 'oven thermometers'

  • Hi Inkbird!

Can we get a deal on the ISC-007BW please?? :)

    Thanks!
