So I was considering a 45W charger for my new S22 Ultra, but decided against it, and to instead go with the official 25W charger.

This was mostly because comparisons in charging time between 45W and 25W seemed negligible (in my opinion, the time difference 'to you' you may appreciate more), and really for the time the charger is running at 45W - which isn't the entire time, and that's a good thing, it's doing ever so slightly more damage to your battery, so most likely person to person with identical charging habits, in 1 year you'll have less charge in your phone having used a faster charger than a "slower" one.

So my suggestion is look up the USB-C 25W, it's half the price, it's I think a good balance between charging speed and longevity, and I picked mine up for $20 too.

Otherwise, this seems like quite a reasonable deal, cheaper than the Samsungs and should arrive in time for S22 deliveries (probably, mine I don't have a notification for yet).

Interesting read on Samsung's 45w charger and charge times with the S22 models

Damage to a battery, I believe, is solely caused by heat. A charger with PPS should reduce how much heat is generated as it doesn't need to step down as much.

But I do agree with the above. I keep my phone on a slow charger between about 40-80%, simply because I'm often at a desk, and have a charger on hand.

      • I wonder how slow is slow, and if it impacts your battery life.

My cable charges at 0.5A, so is that too slow?

        • In my opinion the difference between 15W and 25W makes sense, it's roughly 30m on a full charge, but I was even considering getting the original adaptive fast charger, but it's USB-A so, I'm calling it a day with the 25W one that's USB-C, hope that answers your question.

      • Yeah I'm going to see how I get on with toggling on the software switch to cap the phone at 85%, very curious with overnight charging if it'll charge to X% then finish at 85% just before I wake up, that would be really cool, I am aiming for 25%-85% guess it depends how long I get starting at 85% if it lasts a day, then I'll just charge it overnight.

Really curious about PPS causing less heat due to stepping down less, at least there's hope it's not as bad, this may also be why reviews like techradar's and others are showing only a few minutes difference? Gives hope to those that have already taken the plunge that while the 45W chargers may not be great value, they may not be doing much more damage thanks to Samsung limiting them anyway.

Also, there's a software switch for fast, super fast 25w and super fast 45w iirc, so the phone should only draw what it's asking for anyway.

I agree with battery longevity, and will mostly use this charger only for a quick topup during the day. The main reason I bought this charger is so I can also charge my 45W laptop with it. For overnight charging I will just use my older 15W charger.

Just make sure you also get a PPS charger even for 25W. I read somewhere that PPS can vary the voltage in much smaller steps so they will charge with higher voltage up to about 80% then it will revert to lower voltage, this is better for the battery.

  • Am I the only one (my wife to) who can never get through a year of using the usb-c port on a Samsung S series without it breaking? Three years in a row for me. It still happened this year despite mainly using a wireless charger.

Never happened to me - almost 5 years of using S8+ without wireless charger

    • So the port breaks. Or the cable breaks?

      It's you. Sorry

  • How does it compare to this

Maybe it's just me but personally I avoid those generic brand chargers if possible.

Use the 25w charger. The difference between both charges is
    5 to6 m faster at the end.

  • Slow charge is the new way.

  • I just bought this for my galaxy tab s8 ultra. This charger is also pps supported so seems will be a great fit. Thanks op

How do they STILL not make the Anker Nano for Australia ffs…

    • I emailed them a few weeks ago to ask why it wasn’t for sale here/when it would be. Crickets.

      • Yep, and they're already on the 2nd generation :(
