Came across a great deal on multi tool if you already have Metabo HPT/Hikoki/Hitachi batteries.
The equivalent model sold locally under the Hikoki brand is around $329.
Not sure if warranty will be available for these though.
I would love to buy one myself but buying a battery & charger separately kills the deal.

Mod Update 15/03: Price has increased to $120.78

  • Is the skin actually compatible with Hikoki batteries??

  • Metabo and hikoki are top quality gear, but as questioned above is anyone actually 100% certain the batteries are compatible? There is also a impact driver up there with 2 batteries and us charger for 240 or something which might be a ok for some to couple with this. I'm already invested into 3 other battery platforms though so no deal for me :)

Not 100% certain but this site has some insights: https://www.protoolreviews.com/hitachi-power-tools-become-me….

For those who cant be bothered to click, here is a summary from the site:
    WHAT’S DIFFERENT ABOUT METABO HPT?
    Hitachi MultiVolt Battery

In a nutshell, Metabo HPT is just a different name and nothing else. The tools are the same, the warranty is the same, the batteries are the same. Batteries like the Hitachi MultiVolt will work in Metabo HPT MultiVolt tools. Hitachi 18V batteries will work in Metabo HPT 18V tools and vice versa. It really is just a change in name and nothing else. You’ll see the same packaging and color scheme to go along with the name.

Can absolutely confirm that Metabo HPT tools use the same batteries as the older Hitachi 18v line as i've bought a couple from Amazon US in the past, i personally haven't bought any 36v HPT tools yet, but i cannot see why they wouldn't work as well.

I also have this multi-tool, and its a good tool, although bigger/heavier than the smaller modern brushless multi-tools from other brands. The only negative (and its really minor) is that the toolless bit change is a bit more complicated than most other brands.

While i'm historically invested in Hitachi/Hikoki/Metabo HPT and some of their tools are quite good, i wouldn't recommend it as a new ecosystem for people as there just isn't enough tool variety.

    • It does have the core tools plus some extras like rebar bender, band saw and chainsaw. There are tools such as worksite table and mitre saws, nailers, as well as routers and jigsaws. Some of the Hitachi/Hikoki tools get rated above other brands. Just don’t look for coffee machines and tyre inflators and etc in their range. So for a good price its a decent choice.

      • Yep, didn't want to disparage their tools, my core kit is all Hitachi and they are all fantastic, but, if starting fresh, you could buy a Makita kit for example and have around 100 tool skins to choose from, while Hikoki/Metabo HPT pretty much just have a core range. The range is growing slowly and the 36v multi-volt option is pretty cool/unique, so i'm hoping for more tools, but i just wouldn't buy it fresh today with so many options in the market-place.

        • The 36v tools are epic. They do produce a huge range of stuff but you often need to order from japan as opposed to totaltools etc.
For example they have a cordless 1/2" plunge router available here. Nobody else makes one as far as im aware.

Thanks OP. Bought. Seems like a good deal and i'm already invested in the old 18V hitachi system so it seems like a no brainer.

I didn't realise that the metabo hpt kit is compatible with my hitachi batteries so thanks for bringing this to my attention.

    • No problem! I think this is a no brainer deal if you have the batteries already.
