Has anyone had real world experience with these to jump start cars with a totally dead battery?

    • +2

I’ve used a cheap one and it worked great. The car was so dead that I couldn’t even lock the doors. Put the unit on and the car started fine. That unit has since died, I’ll be picking up this one as it’s higher quality.

    • I have one of these, and it has started my petrol Territory (4 litre 6 cylinder) when the battery was flat enough to give me clicking on the starter.

So, not totally flat. However, it fired fine. No hesitation. I left it hooked for ~30 seconds before cranking. Not sure if that helped charge the battery a little before cranking though.

I've got this same unit and have been using it this week as one of my car's battery is completely dead.
      It works great.

If there is no charge at all in you car battery, you might need to use the 'boost' feature of this battery to get the car going…

      • yup, do not forget the boost button (which is very hard to see at night)…my completely dead battery would not start unless the Boost was used

yup, do not forget the boost button (which is very hard to see at night)…

Get a second unit, to use as a torch to see the 'boost' button on the first one.

      • yep had the same problem - the boost mode got it running again.

I got the 1500A in 2018. Jumped 3.8L V6 with no juice a couple of times before we got a new battery. 4cyl, no probs, helped a random who couldn't get his civic going - felt like a hero :)

    • owned the 2000 amp unit for about a year now and has saved me twice.

      • full charge, started 2016 wrx with a completely dead battery
      • (just last week) 3/4 charge, 2018 tiguan was turning over, but not starting. Depleted the pack to 1/2 charge.

      would recommend.

    • Bought this a year ago and had to use it first time 2 weeks ago. Completely dead battery and boom! it started first time. Still had some extra charge left in it after using it too. Best investment. Nice and small enough to keep in back of a car too. Just make sure you pull it out and charge it so you don’t get caught out when you really need it

I carry a second one, to charge the first one if it gets flat.

        • Couldn't you just use a regular cheap battery bank for that?

    • I have started a BMW X3 and merc both about 5 times from completely dead battery on one charge with one of these. They are incredible

I ran an experiment when I upgraded to a new car battery.
I ran the old battery down with a 12V camping light overnight until it was completely dead (0.06V on a multimeter).
The 2000A Gooloo started the car easily. 2.3l, high compression 4cyl engine. It cranked very quickly too.
I used the Boost button - Note it is on the little box on the jumper cable, not on the battery pack itself.

Yes, 2 days ago. My son in law asked for a jump, when I arrived he said I'll have to move closer, I said no, I have one of these. Hooked it up and 3 minutes later he was driving home.

      • -1

There is a little boost button you can press on this model if the battery is completely flat. Press it and you can start the car immediately. You wasted 3 minutes

Yep worked like a charm with our KIA carnival, I manage to 'milk' 10months+ out of our car battery. Mind you it has some dead cell it in too, if it wasnt for the missus I would 'milk' it some more lol.

Every time, it dead/not starting I jump it.

      • Lol yep same.
My battery was failing to start about every 1 out of 10 times.
The gooloo worked every time so I put off replacing the battery for 6 months.
Then I had to jump it in-front of the other parents at school and the Mrs told me I had to replace battery because its "embarrassing".

    • I have successfully used it twice on a diesel I30. Battery was completed dead. I dont know enough about cars to explain but it wouldnt turn over.

This took about a minute to get it out of the boot and have the car running again.

    • My real world experience is I had 2 of these that worked fine for about 18 months then they both stopped charging between 18-24 months, looks like a small few had similar problem in the reviews and I got unlucky and they wont replace after 12 months.

    • It works well, the only problem is that the lithium batteries in these jump starters don't last long.
Lithium batteries don't like heat and they don't like to be stored fully charged. If you keep it fully charged (because in case you need it, you want it not to be empty) in your car, then it might be broken after a year or two.

  • For a standard Subaru Impreza would 1200amps be enough?

    • -1

probably, but why not get this one for only $20 more?

    • +1

I'd pay the little extra and get the 2000A. USB-C charging as apposed to a barrel connector, better quality clamps and cables and when you leave it sitting in the car and need it in a years time the 2000A will have more capacity.

I bought this before going to main beach in Straddie for a few days, and I got to use it with my Xtrail. Lifesaver 👍

  • Anyone know what the size of the battery is. The previous model states is18000mAh but can't find anything for the this model

    • +1

      Capacity: 19800mah/73Wh

  • +1

It looks like discounts on all models.

  • Anyone have a issue where the unit led indicator all flashes 4 or 5 times and is unable to be used? Sound like my unit died cause not seem to work

  • How long do these hold charge?

    • +1

I charge mine every 3 months and it still would have 3/4 power on the metre

    • Had it fully charged leaving on a 4 month trip. had to jump right towards the end of the trip still have a almost full charge

    • Every 6 months when i service the car i charge mine, as well as spin the extinguisher etc. I've jumped started probably 20 times and never had it too flat from sitting.

  • Can you charge it using the car 5V/12v socket?

    • +1

you probably could. would I recommend it? nope, you would be driving for hours and hours to charge it.

better off checking the battery level once a month and charging if necessary

    • +1

      Yep, that's what I do.

  • +1

I have this and its great! i had my 4wd drop to around 7.5-8 and was able to jump.

  • Bought one in 2020, never had a flat battery to be able to use it. Hope when it happens, the unit will save the day.

    • +1

Checked your spare tyre air pressure lately?

  • Anyone know where you get the 15V out adapter? Couldn't see it on their Amazon store.

    • +1

      It’s included

  • We bought something similar to this several years ago after friends were stuck for days after a storm with no electricity to charge mobile phones etc. Good for charging the battery and also good in an emergency like that.

Will look seriously at getting this one - looks amazing.

I remember with our old one, though, it said not to keep in the car. Is that still right?

    • +2

Most would keep it in the car. I'd recommend trying to find a "cooler spot" if at all possible? (in the tyre well of the boot for example)

      • Thank you - makes sense!

      • Exactly where I hide them!

  • +1

Thanks op :). Been eyeing these and NOCO models for a while now. Will be storing it in the car incase the car runs out of bat juice whilst in the long term airport carpark.

  • Just be aware that the 19800mAh/73Whr rating is at 3.7V, so if you plan to use a power a 12V device, basically divide 73Whr by 4

I have the 1200a unit and it's great. Jumped my near flat diesel navara. I carry it with me everytime I ride my bike as well. My unit has held its charge extremely well. Might grab the 2000a unit and give the 1200a to my mum.

I would never not have one. Great little things.

  • Just a thought - can this unit be used to charge the car battery?

    • +1

Nope, used to jump start only (short burst of power)

  • Is it advisable to use this as a power bank as well on a road trip?

    • +2

Yep, can definitely use as a powerbank. Of course it would be wise to ensure you leave enough power in the pack to ensure in an emergency you could jump start the vehicle.

      • Thanks. How big is this in terms of mAh? I couldn't find any information.

        • +2

          19800mAh @ 3.7V

Impressive product, started a completely dead 4.5L diesel Landcruiser. it struggled but it did it! Also jumpstarted my 3L 2jz twice, and a WRX as well as the landcruiser on a single charge.

I bought one of these about 6 months ago.
The charging instructions are very specific.
I was using it to start my ride on lawn mower and it was doing it easily,. so easily that the charge level did not go low enough to require charging. (They actually tell you NOT to charge it till t gets to a certain level… one bar on the LED battery level display I think)
    or after 90 days.
I had a reminder in my phone calendar for the 90 days and duly put it on charge.
The charge indicator increased by one bar and would not go any higher.
I contacted them and was asked to discharge it completly and then recharge.
I did that but it will not increase the charge at all.
They deemed it to be dead and offered me a choice of refund or replacement.
I said I would prefer replacement but I asked to confirm if the replacement would have a new 2 yr warranty or if the remaining 18 months from previous warranty would be applied to the replacement unit.
I was told that the repacement unit would not have any warranty, so I chose a refund..

    • mine discharged itself to death too. refunded.

  • Can you charge Mac using type-c port?
