Of course I know the cheap Chinese no-name stuff is a death trap, but obviously don't want to waste money. I also know you can find tyres new cheaper, but how much should the RRP be on a new standard sedan on road tyre from a known brand to not get junk while not getting ripped off?
How Much Should I Pay for New Tyres?

Michelin Pilot Sport 4's. The #1 all-round performance tyre. You can get a set of 235/40/18 for around $800 fitted.

If you step up to ultra-performance, not only does price skyrocket, but wet-performance plummets.I use Mobile Tyre Shop when needed and they put on Kumho Sense tyres for around $450 for 4 tyres which I think is pretty good. I can certainly feel the difference when they are swapped over.
$187.46 per tyre
Any less you'll be in a ditch.
Any more your burning cash
$187.45?
Ditch.
$187.465555 ?
@Dr Techno: Burn baby burn.
Really depends on your car tyre size too. If you have a low profile tyre (one of our cars has this) they are a lot more expensive.
I once bought Yokohama tyres as they were on special, and holy moly, the difference in the wet was so incredible. So now I always buy Yokohama tyres now. They perform so much better in wet weather, and I don't feel scared driving in wet weather like I used to with the old tyres (Bridgestones).
I am happy to pay more to feel safe and have a car that doesn't slide all over in the road in wet weather.
+1
I ended getting x4 Michelin Primacy SUV(235/60/18) for $281 each.Fitted & balanced.Just a great tyre. The best in its class, the only tyre that comes very close is the Goodyear Efficient grip 2 SUV which is also an excellent tyre.Highly recommend these two.
I use second hand tyres, $30ea or so
true ozbargain style babyI use second hand tyres,
nice knowing you…
What do you mean? They're good until the metal shows.. rely on your driving, not your safety components.
Except seatbelts they're pretty important
Its called retiring
If you are in the market for new tyres, do it soon.Reports coming out suggest(from all the major manufacturers) they are about to soar in price.
That’s just media hype to get you to buy now. Prices will go down.
Tyres are a massive volume seller(fact)they don’t need media ‘hype’.Tyres actually fluctuate in pricing, everything is linked to the exchange rate.
Been looking for tyres for an XTrail Ti 225/60/R18.
After doing a few asking around at different tyre centres in Sydney, I found this Pirelli Scorpion @ $180 on Sale at tempe tyres.https://www.tempetyres.com.au/tyreproducts?pirelli-2256018-1…
Can’t make up my mind, can anyone help?
The price seems too good for a Pirelli, so not sure if this tyre is no good or something!
Not much info online about this particular tyre.
Need to make decision soon.
I would like quiet, fuel efficient and good grip in wet.
My other options were Ecopia & Primacy but they are dearer.@rlexyd.I purchased 4 Primacy 4 SUV.These are the best out there atm. Also Goodyear Efficiency SUV, these were ranked #2 just behind the Michelin.Really nice tyre, very good in the wet & dry braking.Good water displacement properties as well.Have a look @ ‘Tyre reviews’(YouTube channel) he did a test of these a few months back. Then you can make your own mind up what suits you & your budget.Good luck.
Thanks for that, I was thinking of the Primacy SUV, but the price of the Pirelli has made me stop to think if they are worth that much extra.
I have no problem with grey imports, I don’t think it should be a problem but if they are faulty or something else than that’s a concern.
The $100 cash back finished and will wait for another deal on them.
Was also quoted $1100 for the Pilot Sport 4, but was really only looking around $800.@rlexyd.I paid $1,103 fitted(including the cashback) 4x 235/60/18.This was also including a wheel alignment of $79(AWD) hence the price is slightly dearer. The rear was out as well.Michelin is a far superior tyre than the Pirelli.Even the Goodyear I mentioned is far better.I would say you are going to have to ‘up’ your budget ever so slightly.
What sort of driver are you? It’s an x-trail not a sorta car. Do you really need performance tyres?
@Euphemistic: What are you on about?Performance tyre,Michelin Primacy is NOT a ‘performance’tyre.Think you need to research a little bit better.
Be wary of buying from Tempe Tyres. They are cheap for a reason as they sell grey imports, basically leftover or unwanted stock from overseas. Bought a set of Kumho from them and the production date on the tyres were 5 years ago so they have been sitting around. One of them failed after 6 weeks and they just fobbed me off when I asked about warranty. Bought replacement from MyCar and got free 12 mths road hazard warranty and tyre rotation. Better to pay a bit more for better safety, customer service and peace of mind from authorised dealerships.
Yup, very ‘shonky’ operators.
Thanks for sharing your experience with them.
I always wait for the "get 4 for the price of 3" sale and change all 4 tyres at the same time. Last time cost $450 total ($150 per tyre) for Ford Falcon.
