Buying near Cranbourne Area - Recommendations Safety Wise

Cheers everyone, long time lurker first time poster.

Hoping to get some advice about the area in Cranbourne for me and my children (2yr old and 5yr old) single mum :)

My budget can afford areas around Cranbourne- the old area (not the new area lol can't afford that )- Cranbourne West, East, Narre warren, Clyde, maybe Lyndhurst-

Any recommendations- safety wise ? I'm looking mainly around Cranbourne West- aiming to get a job there too

:) Lily

Edit: Appreciate the replies- so is Narre Warren much better?

Cranbourne is named Crimebourne for a reason. It's an absolute toilet.

    • Thought that was the 2010s.. i thought would be better nowdays- especially in the new development areas?

      • Nope, even more of a shithole now.

Do you have a gun licence?

Shit area. Would not even raise my gold fish there. Full of bums on centrelink with 3 kids to infiltrate the welfare system on repeat

  • Heard there's a lot of socio-economic resentment in some of the older areas, mostly in main Cranbourne. Outside of that it should be okay but I'm not sure how affordable it would be for you as those other suburbs have probably increased in price. I think Cranbourne West should be okay closer towards the newer area towards Evans Road.

  • Merged from [VIC] Should I Buy a Property in Cranbourne, Narren Warren or Lyndhurst?

Looking to buy a property for myself and my children (single mum) and debating which suburb would be better in terms of safety and some potential growth

-My budget seems to accommodate for these places and work is near by to each of these suburbs.

Im thinking about safe, low level crime,

I thought Lynbrook may be too close to dandenong

I think narren warren is 50-100k more expensive but worth it ?

    Thanks!

    • Lyndhurst and Lynbrook are two of the best neighbourhoods to reside in.
I own a property in Lyndhurst and it’s a very safe community to live amongst.

      • lynbrook seems close to dandenong though?

        • +1

Yes it is but I doubt that crime trickles down to these suburbs despite their close proximity to Dandenong.
Regardless, the social and economic demographic of people living in Lyndhurst and Lynbrook is considerably better. Almost directly proportionate to their higher property prices as compared to Cranbourne and most of Narre Warren.

    • I'd look up government rentals in the suburb for obvious reasons .

      • cheers thanks

    • Toorak or Melton there is no were inbetween

      • Lyndhurst (Seems to be the wealthier of the 3 areas, Marriott Water Shopping Centre has everything you need and ample parking)
      • Cranbourne West or East (Newer areas, newer facilities and amenities, less crime from what I have been told).

Do not buy a house near Cranbourne Railway Station or Cranbourne Park Shopping Centre, if you have been following the Casey Crime Page on Facebook then you will know why. I personally know people that have been targeted in those areas (One had their house broken into and their garage was robbed).
I have only ever been to Cranbourne Park Shopping Centre 3 times, 2 of those times I came in contact with drug affected people, one was punching holes in walls and screaming.
I always hear of people being jumped around that shopping centre (Don't want to be racist but it's usually done by a particular group of people).

Regardless of where you purchase, ensure you have a decent security camera system installed - It's basically a requirement in this day and age.

If you're ranking on wealth/property value it would be Lyndhurst, then Narre then Cranbourne. I've lived in Narre for a majority of my life with my family with no incidents. Lynbrook is really nice, not sure if being close to Dandenong is relevant.

EDIT: Also, there's nothing wrong with Dandenong if you can afford it.

      • is that Narre South or North?

        • She asked about Narre Warren which is just as big of a suburb as either South or North (but I believe all might be under the same postcode.) Obviously Narre North would be a whole different demographic and wealth, due to the larger blocks in one part of it. I've lived in Narre, but as I've lived in the area for my whole life can probably give advice on the whole area.

The Berwick Springs side of Narre South is lovely, ie. South of Narre-Cranbourne Road, and is more expensive than the other side, and I would say probably more expensive than Narre Warren.

    • If you're concerned about safety have a look at a neighboring suburb of Lyndhurst called Sandhurst. It's a golf estate, surrounded by walking trails, golf courses, and has a country club, restaurant and health club. I lived there for about 6 years until I downsized elsewhere.

There are 24 hour security patrols and in a couple areas inside the estate there are even gated sections where you need a code to drive in. Many retirees and young families around.

      • how about carum downs?

        • +3

Personally I don't think Carrum Downs is a nice area. Would much rather be going a bit further to Patterson Lakes.

        • I lived in Carrum Downs for 3.5 years, it's primarily a family oriented area and has a great community.

It's close to almost everything (M1, Frankston-Dandenong Road, Eastlink etc, a large industrial estate, all major shops eg. Bunnings, Kmart, Woolworths, Coles, Aldi etc).

A few years ago there was an abandoned mansion on Cadles Road which invited attention from the wrong type of people for quite some time but that has since been demolished and the area hasn't seen as much crime as a result. You can join the Carrum Downs Locals Page and Carrum Downs Noticeboard pages on Facebook to get an idea of what's happening in the area - The locals page is used for anyone wanting to report anything suspicious in the area.

One issue is that Carrum Downs Shopping Centre is severely outdated and the carpark is too small for such a community (Go there during the day or on the weekend and you will see), but you can always go down the road to Marriot Waters Shopping Centre (5-8 minutes away) and shop there instead.

Another issue is that people use the Industrial Estate as a burnout area, the cops are aware of this and patrol the area but it still happens unfortunately.

Whichever is closest to the city. The further away from the city you get, the more people think they can get away with when it comes to kids, in my experience.

  • +1

If you can afford it, Dandenong North. Also, the larger Dandenong area is much better than Cranbourne from a crime standpoint despite the reputation.

If you can afford it, Dandenong

      😲

  • for me and my children (2yr old and 5yr old)

Find the primary school and future high school that you like in the areas you are looking at and go there…

even in the new estates near cylde north/cranbourne north, theres a signifcant amount of breakins with newly contructed homes.
