auto upvote just cos it's Hollow Knight… bargain at any price.

  • +9

I bought, played, loved, completed this game years ago but upvoting just because of how good it is.

Wonder if the discount after almost 3 years means Silksong is coming soon?! One can only dream…

There was a March rumour at one point.

(currently replaying again as I got an OLED upgrade and the save game didn't copy .. so need to get my completion rate again .. forgot how brutal some enemies were.)

      • I think more than rumour is wishful thinking :) I go back to the trailer from time to time.

Yeah, it's very unforgiving until you get used to it. Would love to replay it on the OLED but my backlog isn't getting smaller

  • +3

Best game I’ve played in recent memory. It’s more than worth it at full price, and a no brainer at this price if you haven’t played it yet

    • Better than Hades?

      • +1

Both are good in their own way however I find Hades more replayable.

        .

  • Would usually play an old release like this on PC but picked this up in hard copy for $35 figuring it would resell well (historical eBay sales look to be ~$60-80).

Great game - combat platforming, art, game design, and made with a really good atmosphere and set lore. Depending on your tastes, but I think some of the best games are indie developed, and usually so much more economical, you get very high value for such a low cost (Hades is another example that's front of my mind, it doesn't seem fair to pick that up for ~$13).

I've dropped off since the final boss/credits. Only coming back to the post-game sporadically, and just etched 100%. Not sure I've got the heart to put in the hours needed for some of the especially challenging post-game content. I'm a fair way through the White Palace atm and the spike in platforming difficulty is wearing my patience…

    • +1

The White Palace is fun when you think about it back AFTER you finish it. Also, the Pantheons provide a good challenge, I am trying to get all the bosses beaten on Radiance but there are some that I struggle with at lower levels.

  • Really wish it had cross save. I stopped playing it on PC, but would love to pick it back up on the Switch

Recognise the game but it wasn't for me. If you don't like to grind then this may not be for you.

    • +4

Where is the grind in this game? You can probably finish the game by only fighting bosses. If you say grind like in the bosses killing you again and again until you learn how to beat them, then yes, the bosses are a challenge but still fun as hell.

      • +2

Thats kind of it. Fighting bosses isn't a problem. Its the getting back to them when you fail. Didn't beat a boss? Backtrack your way from the last save point before you can try again :)

        • -1

I mean that's pretty much the whole premise of a rougelite.

          • @onggie: Is it? It's more a Metroidvania i would expect. If it was a Roguelite you would start the game again for a new "run" when you die.

        • +2

I love Hollow Knight but I can agree to this, sometimes the save bench was so far away you spend more time getting back to your Shade and back to the boss than you do actually dying to the boss. Still loved it though personally.

          • +2

@Kritter2069: correct! the same problem I had. Then I barely remembered their fighting pattern, and die. Oh that's right, they do this at this part.

My other problem was I am a dad so only really play at night, and this game put me to sleep big time! Great sound track, great visuals, but not so great for staying awake to lol

    • This game isn’t a grind . Xenoblade chronicles 2 is a grind

      • Lol. heard that :)

  • +3

It's on PC game pass at the moment too

  • 🇦🇺🦘

  • Playing this for free on PS Plus/ PS5 right now

Getting some serious Sekiro vibes from it in terms of satisfaction after getting through each level/ boss (I'm only half way through it)

Decided to finish this before picking up Elden Ring

  • Precept One: 'Always Win Your Battles'. Losing a battle earns you nothing and teaches you nothing. Win your battles, or don't engage in them at all!

    • In others words, "git gud"

never going to open that so I better get the digital version lol.

    • haha me too.

so i got two copies, one to play and one to keep sealed.

      $39 !

  • Really wish I hadn't seen this :) First world problems. Where should this fit in with my backlog? - Inside, Moster Boy, Ori…

    • +1

      I'll help you brother:…

      1. Hollow Knight
      2. Ori
      3. Inside
      4. Moster Boy
      • +1

Shovel Knight is another favorite of mine its an oldy but still good. :D

      • Definitely Give Owl boy a go too. a bit underrated game

      • +1

Inside is a lot shorter and simpler, the end game narrative resolution comes in an afternoon, not weeks. It's a solid experience that would be best before those more involved titles imo. It's like a platformer warm-up before the big game(s). The other games will seem like an explosion of colour by comparison too.

    • +2

I think you should play Ori first it’s not a very long game but has really good gameplay and is very cinematic.

  • Amazing game, and the music. Flawless work. Waiting for the Silk Song…

  • +1 being an Aussie game!!!

    • Didn't know it was Australian, nice!

  • Does this run well on the switch?

    • +2

Yes. It's not a visually demanding game. Runs at 60 fps but it's a below native res. Which really barely matters for a game like this.

There are very occasional and small frame drops but it's generally locked to 60. Nothing that ever seemed to rear its head at a bad time.

I played from start to finish on Switch and then halfway through on PC and I didn't regret playing Switch.

    • Runs great on Switch. Not sure why you got downvoted, I'll upvote you +1 haha

      • It’s cause that guys name looks like mine name!

  • Great game
