That's cheap for Pokemon Switch games, EB is still selling the preowned ones at $74. Though given the brand is the highest grossing media franchise, they can do better quality games.. Just finished Arceus, and while it was addicting as a Pokemon fan, the visual is equivalent to a 10 year old game (let alone S&S)..

There hasn't been a decent Pokemon game since X/Y.

Sun/Moon was where it became obvious the series was heading in the wrong direction.

      • +2

I wholeheartedly agree. Introduction of DLCs, lacklustre games and using different developers etc. Just seems like their not passionate about it anymore.

      • +1

        I dispute that X/Y theory

Oras was a good game but you may not be counting remakes

USUM were good but they were what SM should have been, they were terrible if you played them as an improvement version but great if they were the first gen 7 titles

PLA came out a month ago and is terrific

          not be counting remakes

I am not. I liked them but.

They just weren't Pokemon games IMO. It's when the series started to get watered down to cater for casuals who played Pokemon Go. Like seriously, no gyms?

PLA came out a month ago and is terrific

Trash. MH rip off instead of a real Pokemon game.

          • @PainToad: USUM did something different and you can hardly accuse SM of catering for Go players when the games come out a couple months after GO and had been in dev for more than 2 years, its was TPC trying something different, there were still Kahuna battles in place of badges and the totems was something different. You're catering argument fully applies to LGPE though

PLA isn't trash, its not a MH ripoff, it's a combination of things from games like MH, BOTW and obviously Pokemon but still uniquely its own thing

I have to ask what your thoughts are on BDSP, they seem to fit the pokemon formula that you enjoy (gyms, not changing up the style, classic Pokemon)

              @freoleo:

              BDSP

Haven't played the remake. Feels like an outsourced cash grab. If it's not Gamefreak I'm not interested.

Waiting for breath of the wild to go on sale

    • I'd probably be tempted actually. I played it on Wii U like some idiot!

      • +2

Wii U was supposed to be better than the Switch port with the second screen on the game pad as weapon stash to change weapons without pausing in the middle of the fight but Nintendo ditched it to not to make Switch a crappy port.

      • -1

TIL breath of the wild was a Wii U game

  • +4

I don't know. Did this game rate well? I felt super disconnected from the story. Some big event would happen, and then the characters would tell me to go off and catch pokemon while they dealt with it. Wut?! Why can I deal with it too!?

    • +6

nah worst game in the whole series by far

    • +6

It's honestly the worst Pokemon by a long shot. It's clear they didn't put much heart or soul into it.

    • So bad, I sold it after playing for 20 min.

Sword/Shield are okay Pokemon games, but if you want a recent Pokemon game, get Legends Arceus even at higher price.

    • Depends on what you're looking for. If it's competitive online battles, you'd need Sw/Sh for that. Arceus is a single-player experience.

      • +2

Well I assumed people were looking for fun.

        • -5

Hard disagree that Arceus is good. It's basically Pokémon Go and the main gameplay loop is the same repetitive bland lob balls at mons, with a janky battle system slapped on top.

Similar to Go it'll be hot and exciting for about a week then the mmo like grindy quests start to really set in, and the game gets very boring.

Treat it as a full price no micro transactions Pokémon Go, not a mainline game.

I wouldn't recommend this game unless you're a die hard or have extremely young kids. It's an A button press simulator. You don't need to worry about type advantages or anything. Pokemon games are traditionally not very challenging but this one takes the cake.

    • +3

Yeah, difficulty only ramps up near the end, but even then to have a truly challenging whole game experience, have to nuzlocke it with your own set of rules cuz Nintendo sure as heck don't.

  • It might be affected by the announcements leading up to Pokemon day which is on 27 February 2022.

EDIT: Nah, seems like there are other big Nintendo titles on sale as well.

  • +2

Make it $22 and I'll buy

  • I have Shield and it's too easy for me.

To be fair, I'm a longterm Pokemon player (played since Blue all those years ago)
