53% off Canadian Export Label SA Shiraz Cabernet 2020. $95/12pk Delivered. ($7.92/Bottle) @ Wine Shed Sale

MASTEROFWINE

Endorsed by UK Master of Wine, Jane Masters MW as a "round, smooth wine with notes of hay, lavender and cherries."

Vintage: The start of the 2020 growing season was dry with warmer than average temperatures. Heat and wind during flowering led to lower fruit set and subsequently lower yields at harvest. The temperatures became milder from late January, allowing the vines to recover and helping maintain acidity. Although crops were down considerably this vintage, their quality has been fantastic.

Style: This classic Australian blend of Shiraz and Cabernet Sauvignon works so well with the Shiraz providing fleshy fruit flavour while the Cabernet Sauvignon adds acidity and fine tannin.

Nose: The nose offers aromas of dark fruits including black plums and cherry with hints of spice.

Palate: The dark fruits continue onto the palate which is medium-bodied with soft tannins.

Cellaring: Drink Now to 2025.

Extremely hard to judge export branded wines.
Could be anything from competing against $4.99 yellowtail to something that is a bargain.
And it doesn’t really hard the winery if it is poor, as it doesn’t stay on the market.

Roll of the dice, I guess.

      Point taken.
This wine was selected by Jane Masters MW (Master of Wine) for a wine club of c.20,000 wine enthusiasts across Canada. We've been supplying them across both family businesses for 14 years.
The wine is made by Bec Hardy Wines, a 5* Halliday wine business.
I think you can also check out responses and reactions to other wines we've posted on OzBargain with overwhelmingly positive comments.
Retails at CAD17/btl in Canada (broadly AUD17/btl)
As rolls of the dice go, probably good odds. :-)
      Cheers!

    • I've also picked up a couple of batches of their Chinese export stuff and it was pretty good drinking. Plus I've been buying the cheapo mixed packs for ages, they're always a mix of fine quaffers and some surprisingly top drinks even ignoring the price.

My only question would be whether the $204 is the Canadian retail price or an Australian one. Yellowtail is $13 a bottle in Vancouver (Australian wine is generally seen as premium, at least it was when I lived there. There were plenty of good ones there too, just Yellowtail did a ridiculous amount of marketing and made it up by being overpriced)

        Hi @freefall101
Taxes across Canada vary from Province with BC, ON and QC being more expensive than AB.
The RRP in AUD is $17 and drinks like an AUD17/btl of wine wines from the same range are retailed here - Shiraz, Cab Sauv, Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Gris, it''s simply this Shiraz Cab blend was put together specifically for them.
As I've said on a previous thread - we simply run a little more off at the end of the production run to keep the www.wineshedsale.com.au topped up - premium wines, wholesale pricies.
As for China - that'd probably be the Geoff Hardy business you're referring too (which we ran for ten years before acquiring the vast majority of it in July 2020). Given the timing of acquisition, we actually exported very little to China and certainly hadn't made anything specifically for them under the Bec Hardy era.
        Hope that helps :-)
        Cheers

  • Thank you. Ordered a case. Always happy with the Bec Hardy reds.

    • Thanks @Jos! Enjoy. Cheers RD :-)

Bought a doz. of their last special I saw - the 2001 Village Green Shiraz.
Could not be happier with the quality of the wine. Forget the wine snob jargon, it's just a nice deep red shiraz with plenty of body and a soft taste (for a shiraz)
Just bought a dozen of this latest offering and I am sure I will not be disappointed.

    • Thanks @ocker. You're right, forget the guff, how does it taste is always the big question! Enjoy. RD :-)

  • The Canadians love this with a couple of ice cubes. How aboot that, eh.

    • No shortage of ice up there this time of year! More likely to need a heater to bring it up to room temperature! Cheers! RD :-)

  • Bought a dozen (fooled by the supposed pedigree). "ROUGH" would be an understatement. I'll be giving them away as gifts to people I don't like.

    • Hi @Gyftex. One of the great things about wine is its subjectivity - what you like I might not and vice versa. We can agree to differ yet we can still be polite to one another.
In this case, a Master of Wine has chosen the wine for distribution to 12,000 wine enthusiasts in a private members club across Canada. She liked it, you don't.
As for the pedigree, nothing supposed about it just indisputable fact.
As for the wine, there is a Returns Policy, please reach out to me via PM if you wish to return the wine, happy to refund you for all bottles returned plus one.
      Cheers! RD :-)
