Just curious who is your insurer for contents insurance? Also how much do you insure (excluding jewellery and any special items)?
Looking to getting it to for first time.

AAMI $175k
Oddly this year the Sum Insured went up and the Premium fell.
Less theft as homes rarely empty of occupants?
.
they made a mistake lol
RAA, $90k
No idea what everyone is insuring. My single most expensive item is a $3k laptop followed by TV, fridge, … I even think 90k is too much.
What about all the tiny things (kitchen utensils / cloths ) all add up?
$500
I shop at Kmart not David Jones
Yeah, exactly. My contents is insured to $75k. I can't fathom how people have contents to $200k.
Probably drug dealers or something on the fringe of legal like guns.
Could be a golfer but I didn't know we had many of those on this site.
Is sports stuff covered.. I can see someone who maybe has a big gym or sports equipment like golf stuff adding up maybe.
That or gun owners.
They ain't cheap.
I guess if your wife is a shoe lady that could add up or sneaker head for guys.
Never had to insure more than 40k contents in the last 10 years.
Genuinely curious what people insure to get such high figures. Or I just have cheap taste?
Lol could be either but for me
Courtins , blinds and carpets it self like $10k
I remember when my parents house got burn down, insurance company wrote a cheque and walk out but when you actually end up buying things it cost way more.
Once I call either AAMi or Allianz to increase my amount over the phone and it didn't even effect my premium.

If you were to go through your house and itemise everything, you'd be surprised how much it would cost to replace at full face value. You may focus on the large cost items in your possession and forget about all the small to medium cost things that you have a large amount of. There's also the cost associated with replacing all of those contents.
40K may seem like it would replace everything but when it comes to replacing everything you may find yourself considerably short.
Agree. This is the real challenge both ways. You look at the standard quotes from insurers that are in the hundreds of thousands of dollars and think there is simply no way I have that much stuff.
Then you look at all the stuff you have such as what you've listed above … and even though it's all old and has no market value, the replacement value can be immense in a total loss scenario.
Thanks Who is your insurer?
Be ware that the insurance payouts are for replacement prices, where the insurance companies pay wholesale or trade prices, so if you take the money then it will NOT allow you to replace the goods unless you are able to also buy at wholesale or trade prices. In 99% of cases this does not matter.
RAA think it's about $180k? Maybe $250k?
The way to look at it is this - if you tipped your house upside down, everything that would fall out plus anything that comes after the lock up stage of a build - contents.
If you tipped you house upside down, property cover would be the go. lol
40K with budget direct, found their price very competitive and even covered an expensive road bike. Reading these comments it makes me think 40k isn't enough!
RACT
NRMA $210k
