Saw the shoppingexpress deal so I look around and find this price from ARC computers (Sydney). If you pick up in-store (they have a few around)and claim the cash back then you will be in-front. If you have to pay for the shipping (provide they ship in time) then you should at least break even and end up with a free copy of Norton 360.

Is that free money I see? :O

    • -1

I imagine your also thinking of selling on the program itself.

      • +1

You cant :P In order to claim the cash back, I have to use/activate the program.

        • Worst Case Senario: You just activate the product at 30 APR to summit claim and you ended up with a useless key.

          Let say you buy 5,

          5 products cost you $237.60
          Shipping fee $9.90

          Total amount due is $247.50

You activate the product on 30 Apr and you received $300 cash back. The point is "you earned $50" and a bunch of keys

      • +1

You need to activate the product before you can claim the cash back. See the terms and conditions: http://au.norton.com/360-cashback-tnc60/promo

        • Also note that the cashback does not apply to upgrade products!

    • +1

Yeh, buy 10 licences, build multiple VM's at a time, install/activate then rinse and repeat till you've done 30 activations LOL. Quite tedious for $130 gain.

      • only need to activate one time per copy so may be it still workable for some :)

      • +2

Depending on how the activation works, you might not even need multiple VMs.

        1. Install Norton on VM
        2. Take snapshot of VM
        3. Enter and activate key
        4. Roll back snapshot
        5. Repeat steps 3 and 4
        6. PROFIT!
      • Not really necessary, you can install once and then use the other keys "renewing" the install. (see my reply further down)

where are all the Norton Haters? I don't think it being free will silence them?

    • +2

Symantec will get their money out of plenty of suckers who buy this (even for $15 profit) and then 12 months later a little subscription reminder pops up and tells them it's time to pay for another 12 months.

      • i always use the NAV (IS or 360) but the 60 days trail. will reinstall each 60 days. or i can say most likely i will format my system less than that time… :)

    • I would not install Norton if they paid me $100. And that is not a figure of speech.

      • +1

If it's comparable to Symantec Endpoint Protection 11 then it's not that bad, relative to SAV 10 or below which were resource hogs.

  • it is protection for 3 pcs. One for my laptop, one for my Desktop, hm what to do with the last one?

    • Give it to your friend or family?

      • More like your eh na me ;)

    • install it on yourself?

      • Install it on your red rocket.

    • And one for the girl on your top !!

    • Give one to Broden.

  • +5

Even to make $12.48 on this deal is still not worth having norton on my pc.

    • Agreed. heh.

    • +5

If you think Norton is bad, you should check out Mcafee. It is the biggest resource hog.

    • T&C just says you have to activate before 30th of Apr. So if you dont want it, after activation uninstall it…

  • but it take around 2 month for the cash back to arrive……………

  • +4

Not bad. Essentially, Norton is paying you to install their product on your computer(s). Looks like they are taking some of our comments seriously :)

There are lots of other bargains at ARC, most of the component prices are good and they're easy to deal with.

    • do you work for them?

  • don't bother with this 'bargain', you will only get a headache.

  • Shipping was $9.45 + $1.90 for insurance = $11.35. Seems expensive for postage of a disc. Any chance of a discount on shipping?

    • If it is the retail version as claimed it is a full size box (although only a disk inside).

If you want to claim, part the terms state "Claimants must retain their original purchase receipt(s) and product packaging for all claims as proof of purchase"

But agree postage should still be a little cheaper.

  • will this even get here before the 30th?

    • Doubt it with the Wednesday public holiday, even if you receive it by Friday/Monday you have to un-install your current software, install 360, activate and claim by Monday midnight, too much stress for $4. I can make that in one sitting at HJ's.

  • I've lost data in the past thanks to Norton. You couldn't pay me enough to make the mistake of trusting them again.

  • +2

This is a good price, as long as it is the claimed full retail version, and not the OEM (which cannot claim cashback).

Don't forget you may also be able to get Officeworks ($99 https://www.officeworks.com.au/retail/products/Technology/So…) to Price match this for an additional 10% off.

If anyone does want to buy multiple copies, you don't need multiple real or virtual machines to register it, as others have suggested. You just register it once, then once installed, click renew from the main page and go through the enter code section and enter the extra keys there.

Even though you are clicking renew it will not actually add extra time to your current license, it will create additional installs on your account. Which you can use at your leisure.

If you don't have need for more than 3 PC's, just go into live support with Norton and ask them to combine the extra install with your first account. This will give you multiple years of subscription, and entitle you to any new versions released while your subscription is valid.

    • So you can get 3 years out of 1 product?
good info but what is oem?

      • +1

no, only one year per license for this retail box version. But as others were talking about buying multiple copies, I was just suggesting that they can be merged to extend the expiry date making it more useful.

      • OEM stands for Original Equipment Manufacturer. OEM Versions are the ones supplied to computer shops to be included at a lower price with systems they sell. The OEM Version is just a shrink wrapped disk and cannot be used to claim the cashback offer. Retailers will often sell OEM versions claiming them to be "The Full Retail Version", which is a half truth as both are the same product, it just doesn't come in a box and cannot be used for cashback.

    • No, I don't think you can turn this 1 year subscription on 3 PCs into a 3 years subscription on 1 PC. You could purchase 2 years or 3 years subscription.

    • +1

      Anyway thanks for the info

Not a bad start to the week

      • Hi I went to officeworks and they have version 5 did you also get the version 5. OIn teh box does it have a sticker which says 60 bucks cash back?

    • Hi
The image that you have attached from officework. If you notice on the far right corner it says Norton 360 version 5.0.

wondering if this particular box is applicable for the 60 bucks cash back. It did not have a sticker of cash back as the 5 users boxes are having.

  • Hi
I went to officeworks they checked with ARC who said no stocks. Fresh stocks will come tomm. So no price match from officeworks till arc gets stock.

Meanwhile I can see 2 options at ARC site :

    1. Norton 360 SYMANTEC Retail Version 5.0 3User 1 year full upgrade for up to 3 PCs free upgrade to V6.0 with item code SWNT360RETAIL - $41.58
    2. Norton 360 SYMANTEC Retail Version 6.0 3User 1 year full upgrade for up to 3 PCs with item code SWNT360RTV6 - $ 47.52

Does the 60 bucks cash back applicable to both the above products ?

    thanks

    • No, the V5 Cashback finished end of March. Must be V6 Retail for this offer.

"4.The $60 rebate ("the Offer") is valid for any full-version retail box of Norton 360 Version 6.0 3, 5 or 10 User pack, including Premier and V8 Bonus Pack Editions purchased from any Australian or New Zealand retail store between March 19, 2012 and April 30, 2012 inclusive."

    • Damn that s unlucky for you
When i went to my office work i show them the arc web site, office works didnt even check if they have stock.
      I am sure i got Norton 360 v6
And i just cancel my order with silverwater arc computers so they should have 1 copy in-stock

      • Got mine too today from Office works North Sydney.
It is version 6 and staff price matched it with no dramas.

  • +1

Just found out 3 years is the maximum you can have easily merged onto one product.

After an hour of whinging to online support I was able to get one more year added.

Nortons is perfect for my folks, so now no more renewals for them till 2016.

    • The ARC website has updated the norton product and it says NO CASH Back . wonder what it means?

Norton 360 SYMANTEC Retail Version 6.0 3User 1 year full upgrade for up to 3 PCs(NO CASH BACK)

  • ARC site says stock is there now…

    • yes it says available but wonder why it says no cash back?

  • Just called up for stock availability from silver water as the Paramatta branch doesn't have stock. Was told this version isn't accepted for a cash back. Can anyone confirm if they have been to the store and seen the packaging?

    • I am surprised, why are they saying like that? May be it is not a retail box and OEM CD. anyone bought from them can confirm that.

Also the picture on arc website, officework actual product and the cash back promo pictures look the same.

      • The one I bough does not has any 'Cash back' sticker outside or inside. I confirm with the sale person a few times that is a retail copy of version 6 - 3 users before I buy it. Went through the Norton promo link no problem and receive an instant 'cheq in the mail' at the end of the process. They don't even need my receipt. On the list of the retail store that I suppose to buy from, I select 'other' and it is fine. However, not sure with the new stock. I just like to share my experience and hope it help. Also my package looks exactly like the one from Office Work.

        • Yes. that is the point the product description of product is exactly the same as Norton's cash back offer. The product on shelves might be old and the promotion is new.
Mine also came without the cash back sticker from officeworks.
I applied yesterday for the cash back. Officework was one of the retailers, but I am sure other retailers are also fine if the product is same.

Hope you meant the confirmation email (not the actual cheque ) came after applying for the cash back. I also got mine saying the confirmation no. for the cash back.

  • It does not matter if the box has the sticker or not. Just it must be Version 6.0 and must be the retail boxed version.

Here is my story about how to get 3 years of subscription:

    1. I bought three copies (1 year 3 users X 3)
    2. Claim cashback (got 3 confirmation email)
    3. Contact Norton customer support to request three key combine into one key (They will need invoice)
    4. so i get 3 years subscription for 3 users

P/S: He said I am patience customer and give me another 30 days total up to 1126 days. =)

    • Cool. But never was to try as it will be quite expensive, if norton fails to give cash back for some reason.

  • +1

i checked with norton and the ARC boxes are not eligible for refund….

    • But I have the confirmation email, there is no specific terms in the T&C stated that it must have a sticker. I guess it will go through as the cashback seems only need a key.

      • -1

i think the ARC pack what they have is Upgrade pack…

        • Upgrade pack? I can't even see a single "upgrade" on the retail box.

Yes or not. We just need to wait the time pass and it will soon sort out.

        • The Norton 360 sold at ARC is definitely not eligible for cashback.
It's because it is imported stock and not originally from Australia even if the packaging looks similar/identical. Norton cashback is only eligible for products sold in an Australian or New Zealand retail store (also requires the product to be orignally from Australia/ NZ).

I also checked with Officeworks and they claim the product that ARC sells to come from Thailand, or was it Taiwan?
And for that reason they have ceased to pricematch/beat ARC.
They've sent an email to their stores regarding this apparently.

Didn't stop me from going to another Officeworks store to pricematch though. :)
First comment btw. Long time lurker.

        • Norton cashback website states we just need to purchase full-retail box from Aus and NZ and didn't mention it has to be australian stock.

"purchase a full-version retail box of Norton 360 6.0 (any pack) from an Australian or New Zealand retail store between March 19, 2012 and April 30, 2012 inclusive - you can claim $60 back from Symantec."

I got official invoice from the australia retailer, if norton refuse to cashback then this promo description will be misleading then.

We just need to wait and see. Nothing we can say for sure at this moment.

      • Generally, Australian retail stores cannot sell imported stock from other countries. That is why it is called grey stock, even though it is genuine from the originating country.

        • +1

          It's not illegal..
It's just not C-tick approved for some electronics, or the product is made for another region (different default language).

Australian retail stores sell imported stock from other countries all the time, just flip over something, "Made in China".

        • ryantan1121, if you take that part of the description of the Norton cashback website and try to interpret it word for word then, yes you are correct.

You 'should' be eligible for the cashback. But how often is a description like the one quoted, written to be 100% accurate for every way that that it can be supposed to mean?
          Not everything can be ozBargained…

It has already been said that Norton 360 packs purchased from ARC are not eligible for cashback as claimed by Symantec. (deepm123)

Also, all Norton software is "imported", the software wasn't made in Australia.
And some retailers will have sourced it from overseas, but they will have license to sell it in Australia. All the major retailers, if deciding to import software will have done so (like Officeworks).

However, Officeworks have told me that these ARC boxes have been simply imported from overseas, and in doing so would not qualify for cashback meant for software sold in Australia/ NZ by a "retail" store. There is no local telephone support for the software, it is just a copy of the software CD and a license (not meant for sale in Australia), etc.

And ARC is simply a computer shop, Norton could simply say that it isn't a qualifying "retailer" by their definitions. Even though ARC is a retailer, it is a word who's meaning can be twisted and has been many times.

What ARC is doing is legal, but they are not doing any different (from Symantec's viewpoint) than if you were to go to Thailand, purchase a lot of these for cheap and sell some to your friends.

My advice for you: pricebeat it at Officeworks for $45.05, claim cashback and return your copy to ARC.

gagans, nobody is stopping "retailers" from selling grey stock. Several software companies have tried, but were unsuccessful. But you still need a license for it, though Symantec will do nothing about it if you are just a small computer shop (to them) like ARC.

  • Hi price matched the ARC deal at officeworks tonight - - three boxes for $135 total.

(Called three stores - first two would not price match - the third store did no problem)

    Installed one copy.

    Then called Norton customer support.

Support guy remotely controlled my PC and merged the three registrations into one three year registration for three PCs plus he added an extra 60 days.

He did all the work for me - including the cash back claims. All too easy.

    Thanks OP, Norton and Officeworks.

Look forward to $180 cheques in mail. :-)

Getting paid $45 plus three years security and pc maintenance software with 24/7 tech support is pretty cool.

    • Great work. I am still happy with one year license. Lets see when the cheques are issued.
And you can give a positive if you like to OP for posting the deal :)
