Cuisinart Cool Scoops Ice Cream Maker 1.5l ICE-22XA $79.97 Delivered @ Costco Online (Membership Required)

130

Costco are clearing these out. RRP $139. A quick search online the best is maybe $109.

Looking at reviews online the previous? model is rated pretty highly: https://www.nytimes.com/wirecutter/reviews/best-ice-cream-ma…. Elsewhere though some said they couldn't get the ice cream to freeze: https://www.productreview.com.au/listings/cuisinart-ice-21-i…. They are also saying that this model has been discontinued. Lots of stores still seem to be selling them so maybe these will get cheaper going forward?

Always wanted to try to make ice cream. Could be a fun project for for us.

They do recommend getting an extra bowl if you want to make multiple batches in a row as you need to prepare the bowl for about a day in the freezer. Does anyone have any experience with this machine? Has anyone bought a replacement bowl? Looking online, the bowl itself isn't that cheap but has been below $40 when in stock at Amazon.

With a double insulated freezer bowl and heavy duty motor, you can create your favourite chilled dessert with the freshest ingredients, or most the indulgent sweets, in less than 20 minutes.

The mixing paddle automatically churns the mixture to create frozen treats in minutes, it looks sleek on your countertop, it’s compact to store easily, and it churns 1.5L in 20 minutes or less. You can add ingredients during the churning process, from shaved chocolate to hazelnuts or fresh fruits, the flavour combinations are unlimited!

Edit:

Made our first batch of Vanilla Ice Cream. Pretty nice straight out of the bowl. Will put it in the freezer for a bit to firm it up. So far so great. :D

Destined to be used once and then live at the back of one of your cupboards along with that bread maker

    • We don't have a bread maker, but possibly. Depends on how nicely it makes ice cream. I do like ice cream and would like to make some with our toddler. Might be nice just to make some ice cream where we know exactly what has been put into it.

    • Got one as a birthday gift 3 years ago. Ive used it 3 times. On every birthday. Haha. Still need to get a bread maker.

      • Does it make nice ice cream at least? Why have you used it only 3 times?

        • The thing that you have to freeze takes too much space in the freezer, and i dont have a big freezer. They make good ice cream at least.

          • @khaez: I did think that was going to be a deal breaker for a lot of people. We have 2 side by side fridge freezers and somehow still run out of room.

  • thanks op, was about to buy but it seems standard blenders can make ice cream too hmm

    • Just had a quick look. It can be done but it's a little different. The freezing part comes after whereas here the freezing part is before. You can get special attachments to do it like a "proper" ice cream maker but it looks like they are more expensive than this machine.

  • People that already have a KitchenAid can also consider the icecream bowl accessory in place of this sort of thing. Essentially the same process

  • So this is not one with a condenser its essentially a mixer?

    • I believe it is pretty much just a mixer with special bowl that goes in the freezer. Hopefully means less can go wrong with the machine.

Have one- works beautifully. Great price.

    Pro-tips:

Airways use high fat content milk and cream/yoghurt 👌

If you make chocolate ice cream use high quality Dutch cocoa, avoid cheap cooking cocoa.

If you make vanilla ice cream, use vanilla bean extract/paste rather than vanilla essence.

If you wanna cheap out on any ingredient it would be the sugar!

    Enjoy!!

    • Good to hear. Can't wait to try it.

  • Always wanted to get one but don't have a membership.

    • Can assist if you're Syd based

  • Wonder if it can make frozen yogurt

    • It does say you can make ice-cream, gelato or frozen yoghurt dessert with the fresh ingredients in around 20 minutes. Just looking at the very minimal manual now, it also lists sorbet, parfait and slushie as other possibilities.
