Intel Core i7-12700KF 12 Core CPU $515 + $5.99 Delivery ($0 NSW C&C) + Surcharge (Bonus SFV and MH:R via Redemption) @ Mwave

80

Apologies for the mess for of a title, a nice small discount off this CPU. $50 off the next cheapest store($565 @ Centre Com.) 1%/2% surcharge applies for select payment methods.

This processor is more geared for content creators with its more cores for rendering so if you're looking solely for a gaming processor and want to save money you are much better off looking at the i5 12th gen processors.

You can also claim a copy of Monster Hunter Rise and Street Fighter V via this Deal

  • What does it mean if a cpu is unlocked?

    • can be overclocked

  • Kind of odd - the 21700F is more expensive (the one I'm watching, as I'm happy to trade some performance for lower power draw).

    • But with the K can't you under-clock and under-volt it?

      • I guess, but I'd assume you'd need a Z690 motherboard (also, I'm old enough and cranky enough that I don't particularly want to spend the hours of twiddling settings to get stable operation - I like fire and forget these days).

        • No need for a z690 board to set a power limit. Typing in "95" or "125" into pl1 will always be stable and literally only takes seconds anyways, and will need a bit less power than a locked chip for the same performance because of the better binning.

    • Difference in power draw in real world is negligible.

If it were super important then grabbing an AMD chip might be better.

AMD might have slipped in performance slightly, but in work done for watthours they still lead with a healthy margin.

5800x, 5900x and 5950x all come close in performance whilst using between about 40 and 80 watts less power to do a task.

  • This or tray version 12700k for $569 delivered at centrecom?
    https://www.centrecom.com.au/intel-12th-gen-core-i7-12700k-u…

    • depends if the igpu is worth nearly $50 to you or not.

    • Depends, did you plan in spending extra $$$ for cooling? Personally I would buy tray and invest in a better cooler

      • Cheers. First time builder here. Planning on getting my own cooler, just not sure if the tray version is worth it (lesser warranty as ive read)

        • +1

Not true anymore for the warranty! Both have 3 years in the listing for the cpu on both websites. Tray version is worth the little saving if that was your concern :)
