You mean Japanese. Looking at the titiles they will have English subs

      • Aren’t most of the Gundam series dubbed?

        • +1

tbh… prefer subbed… even though the ori language is not my strong suit… but still… listening the dubbed is so painful…

      Weak troll attempt.

    Good bot.

3 days not enough to watch the whole series…

    • +3

Where do you get 3 days from? 23 Feb-13 Mar is 18 days, so plenty of time to cram them in! :D

Edit: oh, I see what you’re looking at. Don’t worry, the three-day limit is per episode so you don’t need to worry about trying to see them all in that time.

  • +1

Is that in the right order? Always been too overwhelmed to start the Gundam series, way too damn many. How does one even know where to start

    • Just watch the original show, it's good.

I'm not an expert but have watched quite a few of their series (I haven't had the chance to watch the movies much so this special will be quite interesting).

There is a video which explains some of the Gundam timeline here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mj3zDGgFRXw

But I would say that the order does not really matter as a lot of the time, the series, plot, characters etc. are distinct and separate from each other. Naturally, Mobile Suit Gundam I is where it all started but the design and graphic detail, as well as the human characterization is so dated that it can be hard to watch. For me, I started with the 00 series. I will say that Gundam plot and characterization can be a bit much so don't expect too much…But giant mech/robots fighting just do it for me!

If you are younger or plan to watch with kids, the Gundam Buildfighter/Builddivers series (of which there are many) are good fun and lighthearted and have a different spin on the Gundam universe.

      • Zoids is another fun robot battling show for kids. The later spin-off of Zoids tries to go too deep, doesn’t focus enough on the battles and is rather boring. Really enjoyed the battling show though.

    • follow the list, but there should be chars counter attack after zeta gundam, but it is not in the list

There's a few universes in the Gundam franchise, Universal Century is the main one and the list in the OP is more or less in the correct order. In universe timeline:

UC 0079 - Gundam 1, 2, 3, Thunderbolt (spin off, not featuring any of the core franchise characters)
UC 0083 - Afterglow of Zeon
      UC 0087 - Zeta Gundam 1,2,3
      UC 0097 - Gundam Narrative

There's heap more movies, series and spinoffs for the universal century but as far as the easily accessible ones go (avail on netflix)

      UC 0093 - Char's Counter Attack
      UC 0096 - Gundam Unicorn
      UC 0105 - Gundam Hathaway

Only ones I’ve seen are Gundam Wing on Cartoon Network when I was a kid which they put Linkin Park songs on the ads and was my intro to the band, show and the other one is Gundam Seed which my ex-gf really loved for some reason.

There was another mech battle show on adult swim I could never find a couple years ago when I tried. It was mostly politics focused and mostly has military sortie drills as the combat scenes. One nation managed to develop a much faster more mobile mech and made a mockery of another’s training. Pretty generic storyline now that I’ve watched a few mechas but wouldn’t mind rewatching it if I could ever find it. The name was something like Geseraki

Edit: Found it, naturally it was made by Sunrise lol it’s called Gasaraki - give it a watch if you haven’t seen it, it’s a slow progression 24 episode show.

    • OP has the movies listed in chronological order, apart from the few missing movies (Thunderbolt is debatable since it's like AU UC… arguably), strange that Char's Counterattack isn't included. Anything after the Universal Century can be watched in any order since they're their own timeline.

Thanks for this. Cant wait to see it again.

Giant mechs in space, what not to love

  • So many gundam series. Are they related to each other? Does the story continue?

Where to start for someone who hasnt watched any of them?

    • +4

I recommend starting with either one of these series, modern time anime. They're all good series, some of them are already online & doesn't need to be on youtube.

      Gundam 00 (2 seasons,50ep) > movie(A Wakening of the Traillblazer)
Thunderbolt (8 ep) > 2 movies (December Sky, Bandit Flower )
Iron blood orphan (on netflix 50ep)
Gundam seed (50ep)> seed destiny (50ep).
note: there's remaster somewhere on youtube i recall, just watch those.
      Gundam unicorn (7ep)—>Gundam Narrative
note: movie is more of it's own story

others are a bit too old, it's a bit hard to take in for a newbie.
      0083 (a personal favourite)

finally, I do not recognise this as a gundam anime :D
      Gundam Reconguista

      • Iron blood orphan, Gundam unicorn

        I second this

  • +1

    00 is my favourite

    • You have good taste

  • +1

It's not on the list but Gundam Wing was what started it for me back in the old days of Toonami 😄

I haven't gone back to watch the original series but from those on the list Gundam 00 & Gundam Seed are good.
Iron Blooded Orphans (on Netflix) is a really good one too.

      Gundam wing FTW.
Heero and wing 0 combo was great and Zechs marquise was a fantastic antagonist

  • Are any of these worth giving a go?

I build the occasional HG for the chill and thought it might be fun to watch the shows, but my goodness so many of the series' are just impenetrable and I end up feeling 'dumb' for not 'getting' what's good about them.

Even 00, which is supposed to be the gold standard was instantly too unclear from a characterisation perspective and I didn't get beyond an episode or so.

    • Watch Gundam Thunderbolt: December Sky. It's short and one of the best.

    • Zeta although a bit outdated, is probably the best for me. Is probably the darkest of the gunman's I've seen.

  • +1

    Oppan Gundum style

  • yeah!

  • WMS not working anymore. Either sold out or missing code

  • F91 me fav gundam

  • Jesus Yamato

  • Gundam seed and iron blood brothers are my favourite series

  • So do these streams stay on the day after it goes live?
And are they usually only 720p?
