Lenovo is running a weekend sale with coupon code WSAP1416 — you should already see that when you get to Lenovo's website. Expires on Monday 23 April. It gives various discount:

ThinkPad Laptops

  • 10% off any ThinkPad laptop when your configuration is $599 or more
  • 15% off any ThinkPad laptop when your configuration is $700 or more
  • 20% off any ThinkPad laptop when your configuration is $2000 or more
  • 30% off any ThinkPad laptop when your configuration is $3000 or more

ThinkCentre Desktops

  • 10% off any ThinkCentre desktop when your configuration is $800 or more
  • 20% off any ThinkCentre desktop when your configuration is $1500 or more
  • 30% off any ThinkCentre desktop when your configuration is $2200 or more

ThinkStation Workstations

  • 10% off any ThinkStation workstation
  • 20% off any ThinkStation workstation when your configuration is $1600 or more
  • 30% off any ThinkStation workstation when your configuration is $3000 or more

ThinkServers

  • 15% off any ThinkServer TS130 server when your configuration is $1500 or more
  • 20% off any ThinkServer TS130 server when your configuration is $2200 or more

Do note that the discount EXCLUDES the just-released ThinkPad EDGE E430/E530 laptops. Those are similar to E420/E520, except that it's "ready for Ivy Bridge" (whenever that's released) and contains one single USB 3 port (whereas E420/E520 only has USB 2 ports).

Sounds like E420/E520 are in the run-out mode, so I am just trying to highlight the same deal as last time, except it's even cheaper this time.

Lenovo ThinkPad EDGE E520

  • Intel Core i7-2640M Processor
  • Windows 7 Home Premium
  • 15.6" Display
  • AMD Mobility Radeon 2GB
  • 6GB DDR-3 SDRAM
  • 750GB Hard Disk Drive
  • ThinkPad 2x2 a/b/g/n
  • $764.15 after discount

  • Nice deal, but they dont really tell you what graphics card it is.

Note that this i7 is a dual core not quad core

    • Just noticed that too. Probably not worth it then.

  • Google "E520 won't power on" before you commit to one of these.

I should lay my sore head down on one of these Think pads while I contemplate the buying decision!

      Epic dad joke

2GB graphics are uneccesary for a laptop. I would prefer a higher end card with 1GB. more then 1GB graphics is only really required for the absolute most graphically intense games on 100% max, or multiple screen gaming. Seeing as this laptop would be able to do neither well regardless due to other limitations, this is kinda pointless. Unfortunately the customization does not allow another graphics card.

The good thing is though it has i7, 6GB ram, decent screen size/res though 1080p would be awesome. For the price its okay for light gaming and moderate multitasking.

    • What are your thoughts for basic office use? Integrated or dedicated? No gaming, most the graphics would be used for is 1080 youtube and possible light video editing? Worth the extra ~ $90?

      • Integrated. Intel integrated graphics is able to output 1080P fluidly. Though 1080p on a screen like this is pointless, in youtube use 720p. Though if you run a 1080P screen via hdmi off this it would work for 1080p, but dual screen might see a performance issue on integrated. But if it ever were to be used for gaming or dual screen, then it is worth the dedicated.

For video editing, I recommend the dedicated graphics unless your using windows movie maker or some crap.

        • Thanks a million Kill Joy. Dedicated it is as I use dual screen at work and in my home office. Never took that into consideration.

        • Video editing is mostly handled by the processor, not the graphics card.

I don't imagine dual monitors would tax the graphics card very much, but I'm not sure about this.

        • Yea I understand mostly it is CPU heavy i agree. But some level of graphics is needed, and the integrated is specialised for playback not rendering. Especially if effects are used.

Dual monitor effectively doubles resolution of the screen (unless your just in duplicate mode which does nothing). This wouldn't run so good if this person is video editing with dual monitors i can guarantee :)

    • 1366*768 is not a remotely decent resolution for a a 15.6" screen.

The example isn't really worth it when the HP with i7 quad core and 6770M regularly comes up for cheaper.

      • HP are discontinuing the manufacture of laptops, thus discounted prices due to stock clearance. But this means good luck finding genuine parts.

  • Prices for base models aren't anything special. Maybe for high spec ones.

having used usb3 all I can say is that it's worth alot. if you can wait, wait for it.

  • I recently purchased an e520 i3 (and T520 i5).

Did you know that almost ALL Lenovo products can claim on average $100 credit on a mastercard giftcard -you can use that card to buy anything or pay for anything that accepts the credit card. I have claimed before and received the card 8 weeks later.

    Edge E520 1143R75 $ 100 1 Dec - 30 Apr 2012 15 May 2012

    http://moneytree.lenovoincentives.com/?product&s=au-moneytre…

This money tree offer ends April 30, and you need your receipt to claim - I have used a "same-day scanned copy before receiving the goods" invoice for a successful claim before.

OP - this would lower the price to $664.15

    • The link seems to imply you have to buy from a Lenovo reseller to qualify.

      • +1

The claim form has three options:
        Direct
        Retailer
        Reseller.

        Anyone want to confirm?

  • Ii think it is "any Lenovo supplier" hence online lenovo shop would qualify..

  • How can you work out which model from the "moneytree" list is the ones on teh lenovo site?

    • Pick a product and add to cart, it will show a part number. I tried a few but it doesn't look like they qualify (all the part numbers end in CTO), can anyone confirm?

    • Checked it is a website for au customers

  • I added a L series to cart, which has part number 7859CTO, not in the eligible list.

I posted the same deal 10 days ago for $799 and got the answer of usual price , No bargain… I guess now $35 is making the difference !!

    • +2

The problem was that when you first posted you put in $899 (without the coupon code). I added this comment later with coupon code and modify the post to $799. However I think it's already a bit late and never managed to get more momentum after I fixed the pricing.

      • +1

        Exactly, timing is everything.

  • has anyone bought the e520 i7 and redeemed the $100 credit on a mastercard giftcard ?

  • The eligible T-series moneytree codes don't seem to match the Lenovo website at all.

  • If they let you customize the screen for a FullHD display.
I'd probably be interested. You have to spend $1500+ to even get that option in customize…thats bullshit.

Edit: Hah, even the top-of-the-line ThinkPad W520 elite only comes with a 1600x900 res screen. FullHD for ONLY $231 extra!

    • L520 for the most economical path to a 1600x900 screen. T520 also has FullHD upgrades.

  • just bought one, apparently you can get another 30 dollar off if you purchase using student portal

  • ill never buy a lenovo, ive got a laptop which the keys fell out of the keyboard, i sent it back under warranty to get it fixed, after trying for months to like get a boxed sent out to us so we can get it shipped to them. Finally got it back and with the keyboard fixed. Only problem now a month after and keys are falling out again
