As someone who hasn't played this game due to the overwhelming recommendation to not play this game, my assumption is the upgrade to Next-Gen won't fix the overall lack of polish and the dimensional systems.

Happy to be proved wrong with this one as I really want to like this game…

    • +1

I am one of these people, I still have it in the plastic from release day (Trade in deal at EB Games). Happy to give it a shot now.

      • +8

I'm thinking for CyberPunk it's a case of the "No Man's Sky" curse.

Utterly broken, boring experience, overhyped, and a rip-off at $90 pre-order in late 2016, with the Day 1 Patch.

        …5+ years later…

It's now stable, fun, a lot more content, and a good-buy at $30 in early 2022, with the latest next-gen port Frontier update.

(Full disclosure: I'm going off what others have told me, I don't have either game)

        • +1

There is a semblance of truth within that statement but remember that CDProjektRed is a big company with AAA-gaming experience with The Witcher trilogy before Cyberpunk 2077, whereas with Hello Games (the No Man's Sky devs) are a much smaller studio who only did smaller scale games like the two Joe Danger games before they did No Man's Sky which is their biggest to date.

          • @Valkian24: I get that.
My comparison was just in the condition of the game vs hype, and with a possible comeback victory.

But I don't know if knowing they're a much larger studio makes things better or worse. For instance, worse because the "betrayal" is deeper or it shouldn't have happened at all. Or it's better because it gives us hope that they might fix it, add meaningful updates, and revitalise the game in a much faster pace.

        • +2

I got it a couple of months after release on pc for $40 and enjoyed it. Solid RPG, nothing earth shattering but pretty good story and combat. Worth what I paid imo.

    • +9

It's a fine game. Is it revolutionary like it was hyped up to be? no, but its on the same level as any other open world game.

    • +23

It's a great game, stop reading into all the whining.

      • I enjoyed it (albeit on PS5) even with the bugs. It shouldn't have been released at the time sure, but it was so beat up.

Keen to check it out again after over a year.

    • +21

Ignore the hate. I played it day 1 and put 100 hours into it. It's not perfect but it's still a good game.

      • +16

Some people seem to think a game needs to change their life to be worth playing lol

        • +18

If you're a busy dad with a full-time job, your leisure time may be limited enough that you can really only pick one or two games a year. So you really do have to be that selective.

In CP2077's case, it's more a case of the hype train getting out of control plus poor management by CDPR. A 7/10 game when people where led to expect a 15/10 is still a disappointment.

          • @ItsMeAgro: If you can only play 1 or 2 games a year, wait for the reviews lol simple

        • +3

To be fair that is what it was being sold as. It is also the main reason they kept delaying release.

Also to be fair - the game had a great story and creative world, and the bugs were at times hilarious. All in all I had a great time.

        • Same with Dead Island many years ago.
It did nothing new and I was fine with that, the same with Dying Light 2.

      • You can put 500 hours into Fallout 76 & still have plenty to do, for comparison

    • +9

Played it on PC just after release. I thought it was a great game.

    • +5

I bought this game on release, stopped playing right away cos of the bugs. Just started playing it last week and wow… awesome game. So underrated

    • +4

I played on the PC last year and finished the game. Definitely one of the best games I've ever played. It's well-polished after all these updates for sure and rarely encountered any bugs (the only bug I encountered was only seeing one NPC driving without a car but that's it). I really, really loved and enjoyed the game!

    • I own this game and if I could get a refund I would.

      • +6

I mean pretty much everyone was able to get refunds for it at one stage

    • +5

If you genuinely "really want to like this game" then you should probably stop listening to idiots on the internet and play it yourself.

    • +5

As someone who bought it for $30 on release for PC, the general negative reception is un-deserved.
It's a good game, probably 7/10. It's not Cyberpunk elderscrolls or Cyberpunk GTA or whatever some people who were hyped for the game expected.

And obviously the last gen console performance cannot be defended. Either have the game work or don't release it on those systems at full price.

I still maintain the shitstorm that surrounded the game was way overblown, there are far worse games that have receive more positive reception.
It's just that those games were not hyped to the same degree.

    • The game is worth maybe $15. It should be on sale for $5.

  • +6

Smart move, there's a big difference from the first 5 hours to the rest.

    • +3

Haha very true. The first 5 hours is very cinematic and any gameplay in that time is extremely scripted.

    • -2

Exactly, this is just another con.

      • No one is twisting peoples arms to play it.

  • +1

They should bring it free to Game Pass.

    • +3

They should bring it free to Game Pass.

They shuold bring it free to Epic.

    • Why? In October 2021 it was reported they have sold 18 million copies of the game, now with this update I'm sure they will sell millions more.

      • -4

Probably stupid kids who don't know any better. Back with Witcher 3 their target demographic were gamers who wanted to play the best gaming has to offer. Now it'll just be children who buy into hype. Cyperpunk succeeding is not a good thing imo.

  • ~50GB download for Xbox and ~80GB for PS… For 5hrs of play?

Unless it's a demo version, where only part of the game is downloaded/installed.

For the five-hour duration of the trial, you will have full freedom to play Cyberpunk 2077 from the beginning, and can make as much progress as you are able to.

    • I just started the update on my Series X and it's showing 63Gb.

    • Might take some time but do people really have data caps on their home internet anymore?

      • +6

Yea it's not about data caps on the internet. It's about damn free hard drive space on the PS5!

        • Yeah fair enough. Don't actually own a current-gen console, so wasn't aware this was an issue either. But looking at specs, yeah i can that being an issue!

          • @ajd88: I've got both, and find it much more of an issue on the PS5 compared to the Xbox Series X - the Xbox just seems to have a bit more space that makes a real difference.

      • +4

Not cap just a speed limit.
        Warhammer Total War 3 112GB
        Cyberpunk 2077 PC 45GB
Baldurs Gate 3 PC 30GB Update
And now next Gen CP 2077 for Xbox at 63GB

All whilst Im trying to cough work and do video teams calls….

    • +4

What's your point? It's basically the entire game but with a time limit. You either delete it afterwards or unlock it.
50Gb isn't that much for a full game, or for temporarily taking up space for 5hrs.

      • Yeah agree.. 50gb is actually decent; I was expecting 100+ GB..

    • +1

It's an open world game - sure the early hours are mostly scripted game mechanics and story building, but still needs to be an open world to (briefly) explore

in the good ol' days of piracy, this would have been ripe for a time limit crack :)

      • +1

In the modern days of piracy, it's available even before this time limited demo 😁

    • I let 100GB games update even if I know for certain I'm not ever going to play them again. Thank you ALP, I want to get what I voted for which is not caring about these things anymore.

  • +4

It was playable for myself at launch.

Now with 1.5 update, seems a lot has improved: https://www.cyberpunk.net/en/news/41435/patch-1-5-next-gener…

    • I read the whole thing, it is a bug fix, balance, and ports some PC graphics to PS5 and XB Series patch. If you didn't like the game at 1.31, I doubt this patch will change your opinion.

Doesn't look like any content of worth has been added, some items and ability to rent while the police AI has not been updated, unfortunately.

      • Enough changes for myself to consider a replay. Driving mechanics change, traits/perks reworked, romance story changes, gigs improved and extended, new quests, crowd and combat improvement.

        • Yeah, lots of tweaks but still only rebalances and fixes, I don't think it will make the game better if you didn't like it at 1.31 already. They want to make a big deal out of this patch with the new consoles release, but these rebalances and fixes could have been drip fed to us over time. It was August since the last patch, so close to 6 months since we've had an update to the game.

          • Driving mechanics changes are rebalances, no car chases from police or gangs, hopefully AI cars will stop driving into walls.
          • Perk changes haven't introduced new abilities, just modifications to the %, except throwing knives. Looks like throwing knives is better as knives teleport back to your hand after being thrown.
          • The romances improvements are text messages and interactions at their homes such as laying in bed with them, not much. I guess they weren't getting the voice actors back.
          • It doesn't look like you'll get new gigs, rather they'll be handed out in a more logical manner. You'll get the next batch of gigs only when you've completed older ones, so same stuff, more spread out.
          • What new quests? There are bug fixes to quests, but I can't see any new ones.
          • Crowd and combat changes are the most exciting improvements for me. Hopefully crowd's won't be so dumb and combat will actually be a bit of a challenge, or at least more interesting. This is the thing that will probably get me to play it again on my PC, to see how much better it is, and I'll carry on where I left off.

Doesn't look like hacking in combat has been improved though, user mods are still required for that. Should have been an easy update considering they could have looked to the mods to get an idea of what works.

        • Despite what I said I gave the 5 hour trial a go on XBSX, even though I've owned it on PC since day 1, and I think they have done a good job. The total list of bug fixes and rebalances, with the visual updates does make it feel like a solid game on the console.

I thought the game on PC was pretty good around 1.21, but saw videos of the poor console gameplay, the newer consoles look great now with this update.

    • +3

You could say this about most deals.

But that's why people use OzB - it's a compilation of deals from all sources.

    • +7

What a load of crock! If it wasn't for this post I would not have seen this until actively looking to see if it had been updated yet. I bought the game on release and it has sat there since then waiting for this. To me this is a helpful deal due to my circumstances and others for its 5hour free play.

    • +6

If it gets easy upvotes doesn't that show it should be on OB?

    • I disagree - this isn't about the Free Upgrade to next gen consoles, which everyone expected, or the patch, but the free 5 hour window to play. Which is smart - the only way people will trust that the game isn't completely broken is to play it themselves.

  • +4

Has the next-gen update landed already?

    • +1

      Yea I'm downloading it now

    • +2

really it shouldn't be called 'next-gen update'… it should be 'current-gen update'.

  • +1

I brought this on launch, had a few bugs on PC but I must say I did like it…. I mean its wasnt the best game ever… but playable.

  • -4

is there a crack to make it unlimited time limit?

    • codex :)

  • +6

Bought it on PC on launch.
I loved it. The story line was brilliant. Finished it to the end which isn't all too common for me.
Without a dobut one of the most enjoyable all encompassing games Ive played in my life.
Ive started through a second time on PC

And I've bought it on console and will play the next gen version there.

    I love the game. YMMV

    • I have this on Xbox one x (will be missing a lot of the improvements on patch 1.5) and I am undecided if I should spend money on the same game for PC. I don’t have a new gen console and just recently got a gaming PC.

      • The PC version Ive found to be much better than the console version. The new update hopefully brings the two closer together

    • +7

This deal was not made specifically for you, Kung-Fu Man. There may be people to whom this is a relevant deal.

    • Maybe because you prefer gaming on console with a controller? I could have played it on PC, I have no desire to game on my PC, will be playing it on PS5 soon.

      • the game is made to be played with a mouse and keyboard best. I have played it on both console and PC playing an FPS game with a controller for starters is just a crap experience and secondly this game was MADE for a mouse and keyboard beause the game is alot more playable with them.

        • +1

We're all so happy for you :)

        • What you mean is you find playing an FPS with a controller to be a crap experience, whereas it is my preferred way to play. Even if I were on PC I would use a controller as I like to lounge back and game, Mouse and keyboard makes it feel like i'm working.

          • -2

@witheredcouch: try and mouse and keyboard and see how much easyier it is to play and how much more quickly and accurately you can kill enermies. Controllers are not designed for FPS games they never have been.

            • @kungfuman: I have. I personally enjoy myself more with a controller. I don't care about absolute precision and accuracy, I play games to have fun, not be the best, and I don't find gaming on a mouse and keyboard enjoyable

        • +1

Love that you played it on PC and found it perfect with a mouse but then also played it on console. What a wonderful tale.

          • -1

@MBix: yep so do millions of others PC gamers out number console players, and FPS was on PC well before it was on consoles. FPS is best played with a mouse and keyboard. Just like car games are best played on a steering wheel.

            • +1

@kungfuman: Sorry I wasn’t asking for a follow up story

            • +1

@kungfuman: Thanks for that explanation, we had no idea. I for one thought FPS was first released on the Atari Lynx.

    • +4

I have no idea why you felt the need to even make this comment.. outside of bragging about your pc?

      • first of all if you actually read and understand the comment its actually more about keyboards and mouse operation which is not supported for this game on console like games like COD which are. Secondly I am not bragging I am simplys saying FPS is designed for keyboard and mouse operation.

        • Keyboard and mouse can be compatible with console?

          Console also $700 vs 2.5k+ PC rig…

          Anyway cool story

          • +1

@buckster: It's his duty to post as a paid up member of the PC master race.

  • +2

I see some Youtubers whimpering that this update really only makes the game passable for people who haven't played it yet. I think they underestimate how many people avoided going anywhere near this game given the sewage explosion that was the launch.

Apparently people expected them to fix it…and add a tonne more content to it as well. Gamers these days just aren't realistic beings.

Thanks for the deal, I'll be doing this.

    • I think people expected them to deliver on their promises, like No Man's Sky did, and that seems reasonable.

      • +1

It'll take a few more years before they get to the No Man's Sky level of redemption. This is a decent improvement, and is inline with what I'd expect for CDPR to achieve in a little more than a year.

        • You ever look at the updates on MMO's, they can often be huge and they'll make releases regularly too. I think larger studios should be able to do better than a small studio like Hello Games.

This is a big update from CDPR, but it has been almost six months since their last update and this is a compilation of bug fixes and rebalances that they could have released in piecemeal over that time. It appears they've held back these updates to do one big one with the XB Series and PS5 release, which sucks if you bought and were playing it in the mean time time, but it'll help market the release for the newer consoles.

          • @FabMan: that is an oversimplification of what a next gen update entails considering it touches the entire game, that cant be drip fed

            • @furythree: Did you read the list of updates? I would agree the next gen update cannot be drip fed, but that isn't what the 1.5 patch is for existing platforms.

The 1.5 update is mostly bug fixes and rebalances, and this patch will also affect the PC, PS4, and XBOne. Those platforms will not be getting the next generation updates anyway, so those existing platforms could have done with those fixes drip fed.

Bug fixes and rebalances are what made up the vast majority of the 12 patches CDPR released already. What do you think makes it so hard to adjust the % of actions considering they released those kind of updates for the first 8 months after release?

They stopped releasing updates soon after Sony allowed the game to be sold on the PlayStation platform, then nothing until now so it can help make a big marketing splash. But if you've been playing the PC, PS4, or XBOne version in the mean time, you've been enduring those bugs and unbalanced gameplay to help CDPR get a better reception on the next gen release.

      • +1

        Reasonable yes, realistic…questionable.

Literally 0 people expected Hello Games to fix NMS when they said they would. They were openly derided for like 4 years til they released Origins. Then, after that fewer people still expected them to go as far as they did with new content. They're the exception not the rule.

I dig that you feel ripped off but 'playable' must come before 'expanded'

    • Can't blame someone for hoping for what was originally promised.

  • +2

It wasn't the bugs and crashes that made this game not too good.

But CDPR promised too much and delivered too little.

    • +2

Well, they straight up lied. So that doesn't help anyone besides themselves before release.

  • -1

Fallout 76 became good with updates and this game will surely improve too.

At least with PC modders are gradually adding more. Like the cut subway.

  • +1

No wonder they picked 5 hours. The first 5 hours is good. Then after that you start seeing repetition of simple missions, less of the large-key cinematic missions. At least until the very end of one of the factions.

    • Late game is pretty cool,
I wish the inventory and upgrades had an auto optimisation so I would just enjoy the ride.

  • +4

I guess I'll be one of the complainers, I think scopecreep got in, and they ran out of time.
It's an averageish open world game, stealth is super dumbed down, weapons weren't great, upgrades/builds aren't as varied as promised, and other games have done it better.
I played up till one of the final missions and meh'd out.

I play alot of games so maybe that's why my tolerance is lower. Not the best game, definitely not the worst, but having a trial is a good way to test, but i wouldn't recommend to a friend.

    • +4

As someone who spent ~65 hours or so hate-playing it to completion, I'd agree.

A 5 hour demo is actually genius as I think a lot of the smoke and mirrors and problems with the shallow world, boring/uninteresting/extremely repetitive side missions, bad upgrades, useless perk tree etc. won't be as evident.

  • So will the next gen update be free? Might grab the PS4 version if that's the case

    • +3

      Yes, free upgrade

  • 5 hour review of the game here :

    https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=LnBKX_vdYQI

  • +2

Remember when almost all games used to have demo? Pepperidge farm remembers!

It's sad that this is considered a deal these days!
