Dear Esther

        The visual part is needed for context.

        I highly recommend this game to anyone. It should run on old hardware and all the gaming skill needed is walk forward, turn left and right, turn your torch on. There is walk backwards and zoom for the hardcore gamers :p

    I think this was the first game to be called a walking simulator and the term was coined as a criticism. It could be considered a trend-setter but not in a bad way.

      This is a very short game so get on it. I spent more time playing than nessary inspecting everything.

        Roughly how long is a play through? Without worrying about trying to get all achievements etc? Says on Steam that the average playtime is ~90 minutes, is that about accurate?

              @moar bargains: @therog1 Hey I recommend the website howlongtobeat for getting an idea of how long games take. Shorter games are great these days I reckon with game prices getting very low (for slightly older titles) and the vast array of choices we have at our disposal and limited time to play. 50+ hour RPG's are getting harder and harder to justify investing in for me when for the same amount of time I could have experienced 5-10 other games.

                I'm with you - I have limited time to play, limited funds to spend, and 4-5 year old laptop. So I'm not even interested in the latest AAA's, I just want some fun that will run well on my machine and I can play single player without 4000 hours investment.

    Walking Simulator is about the most inaccurately named genre, there is nothing about the simulation of walking in any of them. And they are all 100% unquestionably games as they are interactive.

    This sounds like Home and away but in a game. Love, loss, guilt, redemption, ex-gf coming to stay at ya place. etc.

    Played through this twice.

    Amazing story, LOVED the part when you arrive at the cave.

    However, before the caves, this was a slog to get through, mainly due to how slow you walk. I played it with the commentary the second time around which I highly recommend. The devs said they wanted to limit the speed as a design choice, for me, I don't believe it's a good design choice to limit that. You should have the option in settings to increase the speed for people who want to experience a game like that.

    So, a slow start let the awesome game down and even though it's a walking sim, it's far too slow. When you get to points of interest, you naturally slow down to enjoy.

    This was a nice escape from quarantine. Nice graphics for the time but needs an update. Wish it were longer.

    Turns out I already own this, but thank you for posting!

    I suspect I only ever bought the original Dear Esther and that the "Landmark Edition" was a free update or something?
