These mower gadgets will probably end up out on the nature strip, that's the time to get one.

1 yr warranty should be reason enough to avoid this deal. It's odd as Aldi's cheap 218v mower has a 3 yr warranty?
    I got the 2
18v one to use on a small isolated section of lawn to save lugging the bigger mower up some rock stairs and its surprisingly capable but the narrow cut would limit its use to small areas IMO.

  • I'd be interested in whether there are any electrical safety implications of 58V batteries and a 116V lawn mower. The dividing line on what the ordinary person can play with, and what requires an appropriately trained and qualified electrician, is usually considered to be about 50V.

    • Yes for AC. Body can handle higher DC voltage than AC.

      • Why is this?

      • Extra Low Voltage is under 50V AC, or 120V DC.

        • under 50V AC, or 120V DC.

That's for current-limited sources, like landline phone lines, and aligns with the voltages you will see on those lines.

          Wikipedia explains it:
          https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Extra-low_voltage#Australia_an…

          Wikipedia says for non-limited sources, "AS/ACIF S009 Clause 3.1.78.1 Extra-Low Voltage (ELV)states: 'a voltage not exceeding 42.4 V peak or 60 V DC [AS/NZS 60950.1:2003]'"

Not that it's relevant to this lawnmower or it's batteries, as the consumer isn't going to have access to the electrical contacts. Your TV/PC/monitor has about 340V DC internally (rectified 240V mains), it's considered safe because it's not touchable.

    • I don't think it is intended to be dismantled by the user

  • What feels fishy is that the old ferrex 80V battery mower had a SEVEN year warranty. Makes you wonder…

  • EGO or nothing.

    • Yep, had an EGO for a few years now. Brilliant mower!

    • Ego sum stultus

      I sure hope so!

Just picked a barely used 2nd hand 49cm one this weekend, so far it's been very good and battery lasts at least 2x 330m2 lawns mowed, despite it being only 5Ah :)

  • Is this any good?
    How long is the warranty?

    • 38kg, too heavy, stay away from Aldi gardening tools. They not designed to suite Australian condition and don't last.

  • Strange that aldi is only giving 1 year warranty, they usually offer 3 years for tools and gardening equipment

    • Usually for their Gardenline products.

  • Are there any other self-propelled battery mowers under $900?

  • You guys should just buy the mower i posted few days ago.

    • I don't think so, too heavy @ 38kg and petrol operated.

  • Anyone have a Stihl?

  • Self propelled battery mower… For the elderly?

    • Elderly with acres square yard with no garden beds to manoeuvre around..

  • anyone know of a battery mower that is really light? I need to carry it up and down stairs in the backyard and this one is going to be way too heavy!

The plastic non brushless ones from Bunnings will do the trick.

Plastic has its advantages ie light.

      https://www.bunnings.com.au/ozito-pxc-2-x-18v-telescopic-law…

      • Is the plastic one better than the steel deck Self-Propelled?

    • Possible to use whipper snipper instead? We only have a small 30sqm backyard so that's good enough for us.

  • One year warranty? I bought the Ferex a bit over 3 years ago with a 7 year warranty on the mower (1 year on battery). Used it about 20 times over 15 months and the motor failed. Very happy with Aldi returns policy - they just gave me money back on the spot and I bought an Ego 56v for a bit more.

  • Did anybody get one of these?

What a great mower - I found this on the Youtube last night - a quick video on how to use the mower …might help some people https://www.youtube.com/shorts/I4gVpJ_02Uo

  • There's the Ozito seasonal brushless steel deck mower (non self propelled) at Bunnings (not online) going for $399.
It is by far the best mower to get imo with 5 years warranty.
Comes with multicharger, 2x 4MAH batteries, and its LIGHT weight while being steel deck.
Batteries easily last multiple mows. 2x 18V provides plenty of variable power. Good cutting height lengths.
Not much more to say about it other than to go and ask your local Bunnings for it.
